The lightning rods are installed at the highest point of the structure,
always two meters above any element to be protected and usually on a six-meter mast.
Therefore, in most cases it is difficult to have access these air terminals and puts the operator is put in danger when carrying these inspections.
If high earth values are recorded, it will be necessary to use a ground enhancing product such as Conductiver Plus or adapt the system to include more ea
Likewise, the inspection must verify that the electrical lines which require protection against
overvoltages are protected with adequate surge protection devices.
In both periodic inspection (visual and complete) the person in charge of the
maintenance actions must elaborate a report which informs the inspections that have been carried out, providing data and photographs
When should we carry out an inspection of a lightning rod?
According to the standards, lightning protection systems must undergo an inspection whenever the
structure of the building is modified or repaired and also when the structure has been struck by lightning.
Therefore, it is very useful to have a lightning event counter that informs about the number of lightning strikes on the structure.
For more information about the functioning of the lightning event counter check the technical data sheet for the ATLOGGER,
a device which also records the information of the day and time of the strike.
Even if these situations do not occur, the inspection of the lightning protection system should be made periodic
As part of the maintenance protocol, the following types of verifications are carried out:
Complete verification: For levels of protection I and II, the complete verification
will be done at least every two years. For protection levels III and IV, the verification will be done at least every

If a transformer has been removed from service, it is recommended the following inspections be made and repairs made where necessary:
ere necessary:
A careful check of the transformer during its functioning will prevent damage and prolong its life.
In standard service conditions it is sufficient to perform, at least once per year, the following operations:
Cleaning of the HV/LV windings from eventual dust, condensate and dirt, by means of dry compressed air jets and dry cloths
Cleaning of the cooling and ventilation ducts between the coils in order to avoid overheating during service
Verify of tightening of the HV and LV connections, of the voltage tapchanger links and of the bolts (yoke and spacer blocks)
Check the correct functioning of the thermal protection (thermoresistances and thermo-controller) as well as of the correct intervention
of the overloading and short-circuit protection and tripping of the corresponding automatic switch.
This check must be carried out preferably by means of suitable equipment that will allow the simulation of the real damage.
ORDINARY MAINTENANCE
In case the transformer function in a discontinuous way, before the commissioning, especially after a long stop,
it is necessary to perform the entire checks prior the commissioning listed on point 5.6 and 5.7.

Activities conducted:
1. Cleaning of cable tray at SGDP. Birds nest found inside cable tray.
2. Internal and external cleaning of three units, dry type 100KVA transformer. Testing.
3. Replaced overheated terminal lug (line 2) of Collecting Pit circuit breaker.
4. Inspected 440V distribution lines. Insulation resistance of the three cables are consistently lower than standard.
Reading is 900 KΩ, 700KΩ, 1MΩ at line1, 2, 3 respectively.
5. Cleaning of power center area.
Recommendations:
1. Cable tray for repair and installation of protective cover (screen or plate) to inhibit birds
from building their nests.
2. Transformer covers for repainting and for
installation of blowers. The area is extremely
dusty.
3. Structural integrity should be checked. Floor
vibrations can be felt even for a 60kg man
walking around or a speedy truck passes in the
highway. Approximate weight of each
transformer is 340 kg.
4. The 440V distribution lines from brewhouse
power center have insulation resistance values well below standard. Cable insulation may rupture especially during peak loads. If planned to be replaced, the entire 3phase run will consume about 6 spoo

Notes:
1.
Recommendations:
A. Immediate
1. Planning and rewiring control circuits of affected New SRP Loads.
2. Separation of control circuits for PLC and SCADA.
3. Provision of Alternate power for EVAPCO G and its water pump.
This will enable the Vilter compressor to run preventing the increase of suction pressure at separator
(During maintenance and servicing of compressors). Also, the shutdown of F12/18 during maintenance
which usually happens on a weekend will not affect CO2 recovery operation that peaks at weekends.
4. Provision of Alternate Power or transfer of other EVAPCO fan motors and circulating pumps to other
feeders so that refrigeration will not be completely stopped during F12/18 servicing or interruption.
5. Transfer of power source of other liquid pumps and glycol pumps to other feeder.
6. Relocation of overflow pipe of hotwell tank; drain output should be directly outside S&R.
In case of overall power failure, hotwell tank will overflow if all oil cooler lines of compressors are not closed immediately.
As observed, S&R drainage line is insufficient causing water to flow towards compressors’ underground wiring. Most of which are medium voltage cables.

Notes:
1. Provide Aeration Blower temporary power sourced from WCP breaker. (Alernate power of WCP from WWTP)
Power sourced from WTP3.
2. Power for blowers and lighting during servicing was sourced from power plant. Observed that there is a 220 V ac
power during shutdown from WCP Welding MC Breaker
Activities:
1. Cleaning of external casing of capacitor banks.
2. Inspection of terminals for signs of loose connection and overheating.
3. Inspection for signs of ferroresonance caused by unbalanced capacitance (Delta connected).
4. Tightening of terminals.
5. Inspection of Power factor controller. Power factor of power centers has been monitored daily. Deviations from
standard can be readily corrected.
Finding/s:
1. Tripped Circuit Breaker at WWTP capbank. Signs of overheating were found on busbar and terminal lugs.
Overheating is due to undersized busbars and non-standard copper used as terminal lugs. For replacement
during power center servicing.
Recommendations:
1. WWTP has poor air quality that is harsh to electrical equipment. Ammonia and sulfur gases react with
moisture forming acidic solutions. Conductors to be used must be copper and applied with protective
contact grease.
2. The minimum current rating of contactors and circuit breakers of capacitor banks should be 200% of continuous
rating calculated at 600Volts. Note: This is slightly above what is required by NEC which is 150%. Electrical
equipment at WWTP should be derated to a considerable level to account for the corrosive environment.

IR test conducted by Engr. Romelito Agan, Engr. Nestor Cabsag
TTR test conducted by Engr. John Mikel Naraja & Vicente Seno Jr.
Notes:
1.
Findings:
1. Since CO2 power center was newly installed (2013), maintenance of the power center was orderly conducted.
No unexpected cut-off of SRP loads and operation.
2. White powdery substance was found on busbar surfaces. Reaction of ammonia, CO2 and other present gases may
have caused the formation of this substance. This is detrimental to the transformer because it slows down heat
transfer rate and causes insulation contamination.
3. Power Factor controller for reconfiguration or replacement
4. Inspection of 440V splicing box underneath CO2 Power Center (Ground Floor).
Recommendation:
1. Apply protective grease to copper busbars of the transformer.
Test Result:
All air circuit breakers passed insulation resistance test. Transformer is in excellent operating condition.
