Art is a language and symbol that people used to express themselves. It is used to convey or share
their feelings or beliefs across social, cultural, educational, economic barriers. Art integrates the body,
mind and spirit of a person that helps them to stay focused on a positive mindset and live well. It provides
awareness to people to expose their self-expression with bringing in a concrete reality. With that being
said, the intention of an artwork cannot be realized without having different elements and principles that
helps an artist in creating a good artwork. Applying the elements and principles determines difference
between what is beautiful and beyond it. Art is beautiful, anything that was created and turned into art is
beautiful and it only vary depending on the element and principles used in it. An art is a collaboration of
different elements and principles which contributes to its beauty and meaning to form a quality art. These
two are the bones of an art that can stand alone even without a brief explanation or caption.
The principles of art represent how an artist uses the elements of art in creating an artwork. To
better understand, there are six elements of art, it includes color, line, form, space, texture, shape and
mass. It refers to a thing that form any kind of art. Color creates a mood in an artwork, it is used to depicts
a realistic and creative piece of work. Line also plays an important role in an artwork, it refers to a
continuous mark made on a surface that define objects. It can communicate an idea and can convey a
feeling expressively. Form refers to the shapes that depicts length, width and depth. It can be shown by
adding value to the colors. Space is one of the most difficult elements, it is either a space by an image or a
space around and between an image. Texture is the illusion in an artwork surface. Space refers to
everything we see that was formed from lines.
As mentioned above, the principles of art are made up of any of the elements of art that is put
together to create an artwork that is pleasing to the eye of the audience. The principles of art is an
important thing to include in making an artwork, it can also be beneficial to the artist as the more
principles of art used in an artwork, it becomes more appealing to the people. The emphasis, balance,
harmony, variety, movement, rhythm, proportion and unity are the principles of art. Emphasis refers to
giving or adding value to the part of an art to stand out. Balance is the way elements are being put in an
artwork, the weight of an art on sides or part of an artwork. Harmony refers to the uniformed look of an
art by using similar elements. Variety is the opposite of the harmony as it refers to the use of different
elements. Movement refers to the direction of an eye of the audience on a certain area first. Rhythm is the
repetition of any of the elements. Proportion refers to the size of an element that was place in an artwork.
Unity is the condition of the elements together.
The principles of art can be used to plan and organize the elements of art that can lead to the
attention of the audience. The artist can create an interesting artwork while working on a good
composition of principles. An artist should have a good knowledge about the principles of art to
essentially produce an artwork. These two are significant to both artist and audience. An artist creates an
art using at least a few of the elements and principles. The audience will enable to understand what an
artist has done knowing that he utilized the two. If I put myself as an artist, it is very important that I
know these things to help improve my artwork. I realize that the knowledge and use of the elements and
principles of art can be helpful for those who doesn’t have any idea in art. By making a good composition
of elements and principles, it will enhance my work even if I am not good with it. And it is better to
understand art and its element and principles to create a good artwork that can attract many audiences.
