DRUG ADDICTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL IN OUR BARANGAY

Introduction

Drug abuse is primarily a problem of the in our barangay. Barangays are considered

slightly affected if there is a reported presence of drug users. It moderately affected if there is

a reported presence of drug pusher and user. The most commonly used drugs in the

Philippines is a variant of methamphetamine called shabu or poor man’s cocaine. A lot of

people become drug abusers because their family, community and country allowed these to

be so. Drug abuse is the repeated and excessive use of drugs.

Hence, solutions lie in the hands of the parents, teachers, civic/religious leaders, law

enforcers and government officials. It impacts a person’s mental as well as physical health

negatively causing a major damage to the brain. Drugs can also affect our barangay because it

can manipulate peace.

Drug abuse hampers a person’s power to practice self-control and interferes with their ability

to resist the urge to take drugs. Drugs are initially taken out of choice, however, it becomes

hard to resist them sooner than you realize. It is difficult to recover from this problem and

even those who do stand a high risk of developing it again.

Regular use of drugs is self-damaging. It leads to addiction and causes behavioural

changes. Drug abuse particularly impacts the brain and can also lead to other health issues

such as kidney failure and heart problem.

Everyone should get involved. Support one another to instill the basic ideals and

values that will mould our youth into responsible and caring citizens of our country. The

youth who will be our leaders of tomorrow.

Background

Drug Free Philippines was a battlecry of Senator Tito Sotto in the year 2000. He

quoted that it is easier said that done, but definitely it can and must be done.

Our President of the Philippines, Mr. Rodrigo Duterte gained popularity because of

his “War on Drugs” campaign. This resulted so far to over 1M drug surrenderers, both

pushers and users. However, the Human Rights People kept on accusing him due to his

campaign on Drugs.

Purpose

The purpose of the study is to help people be awareness on the cause and effects of

drug abuse in order to generate peace in our barangay.

Project Description

Title: DRUG ADDICTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL

According to a primer prepared by the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB), the illegal and

excessive use of drugs is simply the taking of any chemical substance, whether illicit or licit,

which results in the impairment of a person’s physical, mental, emotional, and social

capacities .

A drug is a substance that brings about physical, emotional, or behavioral change in a

person taking it. Any drug maybe harmful if taken in dangerous quantities or combinations,

or by individuals sensitive to the effects in ordinary or even minute amounts.

Drug therefore, have been used by people for various reasons; some good, some bad.

They are used as medicines, for relaxations, relief from tensions, etc. As time passes, people
learn to use this substance for different purpose. They start it in a dangerous way. So, let’s be

vigilant if someone offers you drugs.

Goal:

Develop awareness or a sense of responsibility among the high-risk groups to stay

away from drugs in our barangay

Objectives:

1. Increase awareness and knowledge of our barangay about drugs

2. Develop new and improved strategies to prevent drug use and its consequences

3. Educate parents on drug abuse problems and help them realize their and own

potential and responsibility towards preventive efforts

Methodology

1. Weekly counseling of people in the barangay found to be positive on drugs

2. Monthly in-service/seminars focusing on Educating people in the barangay on Drug

Prevention and Control

PROJECT NEEDS AND COST

The cost for the execution of the project about informing people about the good and

bad effects of drugs will only require a small amount of money and if possible, none. The

projects mostly focuses on the critical thinking and understanding ability of the audience

which only requires mind works, not money-related works.

The items needed in the project would be facts about the good and bad effects of

drugs which would be little to no cost for the people who would participate in the event.

However, if there will be a certain budget allotted for the execution of the project, it would be

probably used for the food and accommodation of the participants.

Main personnel needed to carry through the project proposed about drugs would be

the proponents of the project and the equipment needed would be the media that the

proponents would use to further explain the bad and good effects of drugs.
