SAP leads the next wave of intelligent asset management
by bringing the asset ecosystem partners onto a single
cloud-based collaborative network platform called
SAP Asset Intelligence Network.
SAP Asset Intelligence Network is a cloud-based network
for OEMs, asset owners, operators, regulators, and
service providers hosted by SAP. It runs on SAP Cloud
Platform and is part of the SAP Intelligent Asset

Management solution portfolio. Serving as a global
registry of equipment, the network shares common
definitions among the business partners who subscribe
to it and supports the delivery of collaborative business
models that promote true operational excellence.
SAP Asset Intelligence Network allows
manufacturing customers to create an
intelligent enterprise with advanced
logistics collaboration and insights.
We envision SAP Asset Intelligence Network as a global,
secured central hub that serves first as a common regis-
ter of the equipment in an extended ecosystem. Each
asset element has a unique ID that authorizes the publi-
cation of and subscription to content on the network.
Authorized business partners can access critical alerts,
engineering insights, and sensor data through SAP Asset
Intelligence Network to provide maintenance services
on behalf of asset manufacturers or operators. In any
business model for maintenance and service, integrating
business and operational data can improve asset perfor-
mance and reduce maintenance, service, and warranty

We are at the point where business drivers such as cost,
risk, and performance combine with technological inno-
vations such as automation, real-time diagnostics, and
connected assets to initiate a quantum leap in mainte-
nance operations.

And on the technological front, connectivity mechanisms
and sensors abound, the IoT is helping machines talk

information, and every OEM and operator typically
upload the same data manually – possibly introducing
errors and delays that make the data incorrect. Lack

as shown in Figure 2. This sharing of core data helps
foster a single version of the truth across functional

dimensional models, and videos often helps viewers
understand complex concepts more quickly and reliably

While inspecting equipment, the user can navigate
through a visual representation of the equipment itself,
and the images can be “hotspotted.” Hotspots are custom
areas within a picture, document, or 3D model that link
the user to related content. Current features include:

the equipment or to a zoomed-in picture of a spare part

ESTABLISHING A GLOBAL CATALOG OF JOBS,
INSTRUCTIONS, AND TASKS
Operators can use the network to build a global library
of recommended maintenance strategies, available
maintenance plans, upkeep and repair jobs, and safety
instructions. OEMs publish updates directly to SAP Asset
Intelligence Network, and the network automatically alerts
operators that new information is available. Built-in APIs
link this data to the local work management system, such
as the one in SAP S/4HANA®.

INTEGRATING WITH SAP S/4HANA AND THE CLOUD
Whether a company owns, operates, and maintains its
assets; owns and operates assets but outsources main­
tenance; or subscribes to the equipment-as-a-service
model, SAP Asset Intelligence Network natively extends
the SAP S/4HANA suite to facilitate business-to-business
integration for asset data. SAP Cloud Platform uses the
SAP ID service as its default identity provider through
SAP Asset Intelligence Network. Users can also configure
a custom identity provider to offer access to the platform

MANAGING RECORDS ACROSS AN SAP SOFTWARE
ENVIRONMENT
Equipment records in operator enterprise management
systems link to the equipment records in the network,
which in turn link directly to the manufacturer model. It is
also possible to link new records through the SAP Master
Data Governance application. An operator company or
its representative can reference the equipment ID to
request additional model details from the manufacturer
at any time.

OEMs can significantly streamline release procedures
by publishing a model record once into the network for
