Home town

1. Where did you grow up? Describe your home town?

I grew up in Phoxay village, Xamnuea district. It is small and thin of population. For me, my town is a
good city. because it has a lot of mountains and the weather is quite cool. The most beautiful
season is the dry season which lasts from November till March . In Samnuea the temperatures are
less than 1-2 Degrees Celsius. And the flowers of that season were so beautiful. And the most
important is there are a lot of ethnic groups Live together. Hmong, Khmu,
Laolum,Yao,Taideang,Taidam… Here, we like to talk and take care as a family. For example, when
you go to their house to ask for directions, they will give you any information that you need. And we
have a special culture is when going nearby their house or you are passing their house during they’re
having lunch or dinner they will invite you to join even if they never know you before.

2. Is there a place that is very special to you in your hometown?

A place that is very special to me in my hometown is Suan-Keo-Luck-Mueang. Because in the past we


had a song that described about KeoLuckMueang but we didt had but since August 2008 the
KeoLuckMueang was estabished and all of Huaphanh people espicially Samnea people we were
proud of this. For me it not only a special place but it was meaning for my life it was a good memory
because it made me think of my grandmater. She always taken my to walk around Suan-Keo-Luck-
Mueang every everning . Both of us and my cusine like to tuched her hand and happy with our new
candy that my grandmother bought for us. But now my grandmother she passed away since the end
of the year 2008 the year that we have had KeoluckMueang.

3. What do you like most about your hometown? Describe it?

What I like most about my hometown is the culture. I love life style of Samnuea people. We live in a
society like a big family. Most of all I know is that we often help each other.

4. Do many people use public transportation to get around your city? Why or why not?

In my hometown, in the past, many people use public transportation to get around my city because
at that time public transportation was the new thing for us and it was normal, but now many people
do not often use public transportation to get around the city because in here they like to use their
own car or vehicle and now people they focus on comfortable more than old.

5. How do most people get around your city?

Like I have described that my hometown is quite small so most people usually use motorbike or walk
to travel around the city.

6. Is there anything you dislike about your home town? Describe it?

There is the river that I dislike about my home town. The small river is the reason why I dislike it. I
think It was difficult, and it didn’t comfortable organizing boat racing festivals in the years past. And
the most important is small river makes us least of water recourse and lack off any foods from the
river.

7. What are some things that people can do in your hometown?

In my hometown especially my village the people can do a lot of things but the special and can make
money is they can cook Cheopabam Samnuea. Cheopabam is a famous food of our province and
sends to another province. In addition, the people in my hometown can do Lao Sin… Lao sin from my
hometown is very beautiful and of high quality.

8. What are the important landmarks in your hometown?

There are a lot of landmarks in my hometown such as 1. KeoluckMueang is the place that all
Samnuea people respect, 2. A public park is a place that a lot of people like to go to doing exercises,
walk and play in there every morning and evening. 3. Wat Sibounhueang or we like to call Ongtue
temple the place that people always come there in every festival and important event for their lifes.

9. How has your hometown changed since you were a child?

For me, my hometown had changed a lot of things if compare to when I was a child. In the past, the
mean road that pass the city was the land road but now we have the concrete road and about the
house in the past we have the wood house but now they changed to be the modern house…

10. In your hometown, is there much for young people to do?

In my opinion, there is nothing much for young people to do because our province lack of university
or college so, most the young people go to another country or other provinces to study or work and
ofter they finished the work or coagulated their study some poeople they come back but some
people they don’t comeback.

11. What do people do in the evening in your home town?

In my hometown, people like to go to public park near by my house. They have any activities to do
such as: Doing exercise, walking or jogging, eating foods at the night market, playing football…
