2.1 Dassault Mirage 2000 has the following approximate features. Draw a neat
three-view sketch of the airplane.
Type : Single seat multi-role fighter
Wing : Low wing, cropped delta planform (ct  0.1 cr); area 41.0 m2;
span 9.13 m, leading edge sweep of inboard section = 58o ;
no dihedral; the leading edge of the wing, extended up-to fuselage
centre line is roughly at 4.4 m from nose; leading edge slat ; flaps ;
ailerons from tip to about semi-span.
Fuselage : Pointed nose section of length 2.75 m and base diameter of
roughly 0.8 m; length of fuselage = 14.65 m; maximum height
(at canopy)  1.5 m ; diameter at rear end  0.9 m.
Engine : One engine in rear fuselage; side intake
Empennage: No horizontal tail. Vertical tail of height  2.75 m above fuselage ;
chord where V.tail joins fuselage  3.9m ; the leading edge of this
chord is at roughly at 10.4 m behind the nose of fuselage ;
tip chord  1.15 m ; quarter chord sweep  400.

[ Answer : Refer to the three-view drawing of this airplane in Jane’s all the
world’s aircraft (Ref.1.21) and also on internet. Notice the area ruled
fuselage; refer section 7.2 for area ruling.]

2.2 Lear Jet 45 airplane has the following approximate features.

Type : Business jet
Wing : Low wing; area = 28.95 m2 ; span = 14.57 m; taper ratio  0.33;
 c  13.5 ; Dihedral  3 ; the leading edge of the wing,
4

extended up to fuselage centre line, is roughly at 8.1 m from

nose; winglets at tips.

and base diameter of 1.1 m; cockpit portion of length  1.7 m;
cylindrical portion of fuselage of length  6.7 m; tail cone of
length  6.7 m; Height and width of cylindrical portion  1.8 m.
Engines : Two engines mounted on rear fuselage ; nacelle length  2.7 m;
maximum diameter  1.1 m; front face of nacelle is roughly
10.9 m behind the nose; top of the nacelle is at a height roughly
equal to the height of the top portion of the fuselage.
H.Tail : T-tail; area(Sht)  7.0 m2, span  5.4 m; λ  0.45 ,  c  25 ;

elevator area  30% of Sht the leading edge of the H.tail,

extended upto the fuselage centre line, is roughly at 16.5 m from
nose.
V. tail : Area (Svt)  4.1 m; height above fuselage  2.0 m; λ  0.8 ,

2.3 An airplane has the following features.

Gross Weight: 160,000 N
Wing loading : 3760 N / m2
Wing : A = 8, λ = 0.3, = 250
Horizontal tail : Sht / S = 0.2, A = 5, λ = 0.5,  = 300
Obtain the root chords of the wing and the tail.
