Welcome to this module on identifying homographs in the sentence.

This module is intended to help you, learners, understand and master the concepts of
identifying homographs in the sentence. It is designed to equip you with essential knowledge
about the said topic and skills on the use of different sources of information in reading.

HOW TO USE THIS MODULE

This module contains several lessons. To make the most out of them, you need to do the

My lucky pen

When I was a child, I had a lucky pen. I always got good grades
whenever I used it. I lost it but I found in the dog’s pen. The dog barked at
me and I ran quickly and bumped in the rough bark of the tree. I felt pain and
shed a tear for I sense a tear in my skin. I walked to our parked car near the
park and went home with my mom.

We call these words Homographs.

What Is It?

A homograph is a word that shares the same written form as another


word but has a different meaning, such as tear (a drop of water from the eye)

and tear (to pull apart).It is important to use context clues or other words in the
sentence to decide the meaning and pronunciation of the word.

Here are the other examples of homographs:

 ruler- A person who rules a place or a country.

 ruler-  Can be defined as a tool or device used to measure length


and draw straight lines.

 tear- A drop of clear saline fluid secreted in the eye when we cry.

4. The boys planned to tear the plastic bag to cover the drum.

 tear- Pull or rip (something) apart or to pieces with force.
