Course Code : MC2
Course Title : Biochemistry
Units : 3 units Lec, 2 units Lab
Commitment : 9 hrs per week
Course Description : This course is the study of chemical processes in living organisms. It will
provide knowledge on the structure and functions of biological molecules
which includes carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes and
vitamins. This will equip health sciences students with sufficient background
to better understand the nature of physiological conditions.
Prerequisites : none
Textbook : Stephen Stoker H.(2017). Biochemistry (3rd ed.). Phil:Cengage Learning
Asia,C&E Publishing Inc.

Jersey: Pearson Education Inc.
Course Outcomes : After completion of the course the student should be able to:
1. Identify structures, draw and give names of the common classes of
organic compounds.
2. Define and draw structures of biomolecules: carbohydrates, lipids,
proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes and vitamins.
3. Describe properties and identify different classes of biomolecules.
4. Apply basic principles of biochemistry to different life processes.
Resources Required : Pencil, Pens, Notebook, Calculator
Software Required : NA
Quizzes : Submit testbooklets to the testing center before taking the examination.
Examination : Midterm and Final Examination will be administered at a testing center
neareast to your location identified by the University .
