II. Introduction/Rationale

Statement of the Problem

This study focused on the efficiency of printed modules in grade 10 learners at Sto. Niño

3rd National High School. Especially it tries to answer the following:

 What is the effect in student’s behaviour of using printed modules in their study?

 Is there a difference in result while using printed and digital modules?

 Which type of modular learning is more effective?

Definition of Terms

Modular Learning – Is a form of distance learning that uses Self- Learning Modules (SLM)

based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCS) provided by DepEd.

Printed modules – consist of all written material, excluding non-print resources, which convey

planned course information

Digital Modules – Are those that can be accessed by computers. Some of them are “born-

digital”, or originated in a digital form, others were converted into digital files.

Hypothesis

Ho: Printed Modules is not effective in Grade 10 learning at Sto. Niño 3rd National High School.
III. Main Parts

Background of the Study

Asynchronous learning refers with two different methods of education, instruction, and

learning that do not take place at the same time or in the same place.

It makes use of tools that allow an individuals to share knowledge outside of the limits of

time and place.

In many cases, well-designed asynchronous learning is founded on constructivist theory,

a student-centred approach that stresses peer to peer interactions. This method blends self-study

with asynchronous interaction to encourage learning in traditional on campus education,

distance education and continuing education.

Modular learning modular learning is one of the most popular form of distance learning

that uses self-learning modules (SLM) based on the most essential learning competencies

provided by DepEd. The modules include sections of motivation and both teacher and students

desired competencies.

Teacher most provide modules with questioner to give to their students. To keep a

distance their student should answer it in home. This learning modality is currently used by all

public school and some of private school. It is a type of learning through printed and digital

modules emerged as the most preferred distance learning method of parents with children who

are enrolled thin academic year.

Presentation and Analysis of Data

The finding and the discussions of this study were presented in this chapter where the

researcher’s keep in mind the statement of the problem of the study.

Table 1. Question No. 1 What type of module you are using in modular learning?

Type of Modular Learning

Printed Module Digital Module
38 12
TOTAL: 50

In total of fifty (n=50) respondents, thirty-eight (38) or 76% answered that they are

currently using printed hand-outs for their class, while twelve (12) or 24% out using digital

modules.

Table 2. Question No. 2 Do you think it’s suitable for your learning?

Printed Module 35 3
Digital Module 3 9
TOTAL: 50

In question no.2, over thirty eight (38) respondents who answered that they are currently

using printed module thirty-five (35) or 92% of them answered that it is suitable for them and

three (3) or 8% said that printed module is not suitable for their learning. In twelve (12)

respondents who said that they are using digital three (3) or 25% of them answered that it is

suitable for them and nine (9) or 75% of the respondents said that digital module is not suitable

for their learning.

Table 3. Question No. 3 If it is YES, Why?

In this table present the analysis of data in question no.3 seven (7) or 20% of the

respondents answered that they do learn more about the lessons if it is printed module and

twenty eight (28) or 80% said that printed is suitable for their learning because it does not require

gadgets. While the other learners answered that digital module suits to them. Three (3) or 100%

of the students who uses digital modules and thinks that it suits them chose the reason of having

gadgets to use in studying.

In table 4, according to the result among the 50 students there are three (3) respondents

that uses printed modules saying that it was not suitable for them because they get lazy every

time they see lots of modules are piled up. While the remaining respondents consists of nine (9)
learners using digital modules who also think that it does not fit to them. Over the two (2)

reasons given as the choices of students, nine (9) or 100% of them choose the reason that there

are lots of possible distraction while using digital modules like social media.

IV. Conclusions and Recommendation

Conclusions

The study found out that printed module is more efficient for learning of Grade 10

students of Sto. Niño 3rd National High School SY: 2020-2021, based on the data that we

gathered most of them preferred to use printed modules because it does not require to use

gadgets, and some of them do learn when they have paper on their hand to study.

Recommendations

The researchers recommend the following for future used of some researchers who will

conduct the same study.

1. The teacher should produce a clearer and colored features (images) of the modules for

their learners.
2. The teachers should prioritize determining the status in life of their learners.

3. The teachers should monitor the academic performance of the learners who uses printed

and digital modules and distinguish who excel more in the class, is it the learners who

uses printed modules or the ones who uses digital.

4. The learners must observe and evaluate themselves if they gain knowledge with the

method of modular learning they are assigned.

5. If the learners observed that he/she is not suitable with the type of modular learning he

has, the learner should give recommendations to their respective adviser that they want to

switch to the other type of modular learning.
