A health official will use your mobile phone number to contact you if you:
• test positive, to ask you to upload your information
• are identified as a close contact of another COVIDSafe user who tested
positive, to give you advice on what to do.
If you are helping a friend or relative to download the app, you will need
to download the app onto their phone and enter their phone number into
the app.

and Notifications. If you choose to enable Notifications,
you will receive a notification if COVIDSafe is not active.

9. Once you have registered and given permission, keep the COVIDSafe
app active. You can confirm this if you see ‘COVIDSafe is active’

10. While active, COVIDSafe keeps a secure note of other COVIDSafe users you have been
near. With your permission health officials can use this information to contact people if
you test positive.
This information remains on your phone for 21 days and cannot be accessed unless you
give your consent.

If a health official has not contacted you, select ‘No’
You need to consent to your information being uploaded. Unless you consent, your close
contact information will not be uploaded. If you consent, your close contact information
will be uploaded and shared with state or territory health officials to contact people who
may have been exposed to the virus.

Select ‘Continue’ to complete the process.
Once you complete the process, the information is stored
in a highly secure storage system.
A health official from your state or territory will access the
information in the app to identify people you have been
in close contact with – within 1.5 metres for 15 minutes
or more.
This will help health officials to quickly notify people
who have been close to you and may have been exposed
to coronavirus.

13. Health officials may also contact you if you are identified as a close contact of another
COVIDSafe app user who has coronavirus. In this case, the health official may advise that
you need to get tested for the virus.
14. You can delete the COVIDSafe app from your phone at any time. This will delete all
COVIDSafe app information from your phone. The information in the secure information
storage system will not be deleted immediately. It will be destroyed when the Minister for
Health declares the pandemic over. If you would like your information deleted from the
storage system sooner, you can complete our COVIDSafe data deletion form at
https://covidsafe-form.service.gov.au/
