Statement of intent

Product 1 – Media representation and media language

My first magazine will be called ‘Uproar: LGBTQ+ edition” which will represent a range of
stories about LGBTQ+ issues and gossip. As the target audience is 16-25 my stories will be
based on informing that age group about peoples struggles at their age. The front cover will
be one main image of a bisexual female who has never been on a date and the readers get
to choose who she will date which will be very interesting and relatable to our target group
as many are used to dating apps such as tinder or grinder. The main shot will be taken
outside in a town with people moving around in the back so that the person is the main
feature. The main person will be the only one in colour as the background will be in black
and white to emphasize how she is alone and single. The shot will be taken from slightly
below to make the person seem more powerful and in control as they have been very
courageous in sharing their story. Surrounding the picture will be the date options in
polaroid pictures. The color palate will be bright colours as LGBTQ+ is normally represented
by a rainbow. Judith Butler theories of gender performativity could be linked into many of
the headlines on this magazine as she believes gender has no identity instead gender
performativity is a repetition and ritual outlined through dominant ideologies. These
ideologies will be shown in my headlines as to reach the biggest market stereotypes will be
used to help the audience understand what the producer is trying to portray.

My second magazine will be called Uproar which focuses on relevant issues people aged 16-
25 are facing. The main headline will be called ‘How the education system failed ME’, this
title will attract young people as they will be leaving school wondering whether they want
to further their education or not. However, this story will give them an insight into whether
further education is needed or if it’s just a scam to make the universities money. The front
cover will be the male the headline is referring it will be an action shot with a blurred
background to show that he is the focus of this week’s edition. This will also be in black and
white to show how this weeks eddition has taken a slighly more serious tone. This magazine
will be representing young activists who have been educated and know want a bigger
understanding in the world due to the lack of teaching about it in the education system.
They will also be given opportunities to take part in online polls on the Uproars website and
communicate with other Uproar readers through social media. The color palate will be black
and white to give the magazine a more professional and serious look.

Product 2 – Media Audience

Social media is going to play a large part in both my magazines. In the LGBTQ+ edition
magazine and Uproar its social media usernames will be shown for twitter, Instagram,
snapchat. This is so their audiences can access a larger range of the magazines content and
be able to share and comment on it. Not only will this create more publicity for the
magazine but also help them with feedback to see what is popular with their audience and
what is not. Each sight will have a link to the website in the bio as well as regular post about
the new magazine additions coming out. This will also allow us to tag other Bauer media
brands so that we can get exposure as many of them are very popular. My website will also
have the links so that from all platforms you can access the social media pages and website.
I have chosen a modern look with my website to attract the young target audience as well
as I made sure that my website was accessible and worked well with phones and iPad. This
is because our target audience will generally use their phone to access a website.

Convergence – Media industry

At the bottom of both magazines will be an advert for Uproars social media accounts as well
as a barcode and date. There will be a call to action to show that there are more interactive
elements in these magazines which the audience can check out on our website. These will
be done by having voting elements on the website which are connected to the story. As well
as there will excusive information on the website and social media accounts which will be
advertised on the magazines. The website will include a subscription offer and a newsletter
sign up. On the magazines there will be a link to Bauer media so that their audience can see
what else they offer as well as promotion of other Bauer media products.
