Using the title you picked from the story book of the Grimm Brothers, write a short essay about what
you think the story is about. Create questions you wanted to know about the story.

 Why did you choose this story?

- Because the moral of "The Fisherman and His Wife" is that a person must be thankful
for what he has and not always want more, lest it become impossible for him ever to be
satisfied. Those who do not appreciate the small things likely do not have the capacity
to appreciate anything and are destined to live a life deprived of joy.

 Characters
- The characters in “the fisherman and his wife” are the fisherman, his greedy wife, and
the flounder.

 Plot
- A fisherman and his wife live in a filthy shack new the sea. While the fisherman was
fishing, he caught a flounder told the fisherman that he was not an ordinary flounder;
that he was an enchanted prince. So, the fisherman put him back in and went back to
his filthy shack. The fisherman told his wife about enchanted flounder. She told him that
she wanted to live in a cottage, so the fisherman told the flounder, and the flounder
gave them a cottage. The wife asked for a palace, so the flounder gave her a palace. The
wife asked to be a king, so the flounder made her a king. The wife wanted to be an
emperor, so the flounder made her an emperor. The wife wanted to be a pope, so the
flounder made her a pope. The wife wanted to be like a God, so the flounder put her
back to filthy shack.

 Sequence
- It takes place at a filthy shack by the sea.

 Conflict
- The conflict in the story is when the fisherman finds the “flounder” the enchanted
prince.

 Theme
- The main theme of the story ‘The Fisherman and His Wife’ is that people must not be
greedy and should be happy of what they have. Otherwise, everything can be lost due to
their excessive greed.

 Application in real life and to self

- In real life, as a human being I cannot help to be greedy sometimes. I want to have that,
those, and all things I saw on Lazada/ Shopee. Being an only child, my wish is to have a
sibling which I know is impossible now, but I keep on insisting to the point being so
demanding. Time will come that I’ll realize – “Nobody is perfect, and I can’t have my
only cake and eat it too.”
