Notes 1.1

Safety Information 0

General Safety Information

When carrying out the work steps and checks, the product-specific safety information con-
tained in the documents must be observed.

CAUTION Dangerous radiation!

¹ Checks or adjustments that must be performed with radi-
ation switched on are labeled with the radiation warning
symbol x . While performing adjustments labeled this
way, radiation protective clothing must be worn.

WARNING Dangerous voltage!

¹ As a rule, measurements made using the oscilloscope
may be performed only with the ground wire connected.
Disconnecting the ground wire without an isolation
transformer is not permitted under any circumstances.
The ground wire may be made ineffective by means of an
isolation transformer only if no voltages greater than
25 V AC or 60 V DC can occur on metal parts that can be
touched. For measurements in which any ground loops
can have a disturbing effect on the measurement result,
an isolation amplifier (e.g. GOULD Contec 9000 or TEK-
TRONICS A6902B) must be used, see the Service Tools
Catalogue.

• To switch off power to all parts of the system (generator and system cabinet). set the
system switch in the OFF position.
• Install or remove components only with the generator switched off; when doing this,
observe ESD guidelines.
• ESD guidelines must be observed during startup.

Product-specific Safety Information

• Prior to performing any activity in the generator, switch it off at the S2 power OFF switch
on the D160 board.

General Information 9

WARNING With the generator switched off, there is still line power present at
the T1 transformer D160 switch-on circuit (see Wiring Diagram
X2206-10). After switching off the generator, there is still approx.
600 V DC voltage present for the inverter!
This is indicated by LEDs V35 and V36 on the D110 board (see also
X2206-16).
¹ The voltage dissipates within approx. 2 minutes to 0 V,
the LEDs go off at approx. 30 V. The warning note (label)
in the generator cabinet must be observed.

WARNING Frequency Converter

After disconnecting the drive current converter in front of the
power supply, the frequency converter voltage-conducting unit
parts and power connections may not be touched immediately
because of capacitors that may possible still contain a charge.
Because of the intermediate circuit capacitors, there is still dan-
gerous voltage present at the frequency converter for up to
30 seconds after switching off power.
¹ Working on the motors or on the intermediate circuit ter-
minals of the frequency converter is permitted no sooner
than after this waiting period.

• Switching Off High Voltage/Radiation

- To prevent unintentional triggering of high voltage or radiation, set the SS switch (S1)
on the D100 to OFF (no control of the inverter).
• Preventing Unit Movements
- Press the unit emergency stop switch when performing all service and maintenance
work on the unit. The emergency stop switch is located on the front of the unit and on
the remote control console.

what has been shipped.

Remarks regarding Startup

The system was prestaged, programmed and tested as a system at the factory. The Test
Certificates are filed in the binder "Techn. Documents / System Reg. 9".
• During startup, it must be assured by means of checks or measurements that the test
area settings have not changed.

10 General Information

• All texts labeled with p must be entered in the Test Certificate that is listed in each
instance:
- Quality Certificate
- Test Certificate for Image Quality without DFR.
The tables in the corresponding certificates are marked with the note "Checked during
startup".

Manual Fluoroscopy
Setting appropriate X-ray tube load factors (kV or mA) to check the radiation safety mea-
surement values.
Necessary only if a radiation safety measurement must be performed.
• Start the POLYDOROS SSW:
- < Diagnostics >
- < Manual Fluoroscopy >
In this menu, the kV and mA can be set manually and fluoroscopy can be switched on.

General Information 0

Determining Veiling Luminance

To avoid any problems during the Acceptance Test for monitors per DIN 6868 - 57, the
lighting conditions in the control and examination rooms must be tested as soon as possi-
ble.
For this, the veiling luminosity of the image playback devices on which diagnosis is made
must be measured using a luminous density meter (e.g. Mavo monitor) in the position in
which the devices are normally operated.
• The room lighting is adjusted to the operating conditions (it may be necessary to ask the
user) that are planned for later using a dimmer with a scale.
• The diagnostic monitor must remain switched off.
• Measure the veil luminosity of the diagnostic monitor with the luminous density meter at
a distance in front of the screen that is specified by the manufacturer.
• If the veiling luminance is less than 2 cd/m2, the minimum requirements of the Accep-
tance Test for Image Playback Devices can be considered as met.
• If, however, the veiling luminance exceeds the above value, the operator and/or site
manager must be informed to that effect immediately to ensure that remedial action
(additional defined reduction of the illumination, darkening of windows etc.) can be
taken in time. For more information, please refer to the Project Manager Handbook or
PG Planning Guide.
These measurements are necessary so that the minimum requirements for the Accep-
tance and Constancy Test for Image Playback Devices per DIN 68 68 - 57 can be
ensured.

Film-Screen Combinations Used 6.1

Three different exposure steps (BSt) corresponding to three different film-screen combi-
nations (H, U, D) can be programmed at the generator.
For each exposure step, the screen and the film provided for it must be documented with
the following data from the manufacturer in the "Quality Certificate":
- Color sensitivity of the films and screens
- Sensitivity, S
- Theoretical dose requirement, KS
- Minimum resolution, RGr
Make sure that only films for the light color for which the screen is sensitivity has been
determined are used (green sensitive film for green sensitive screen, blue sensitive film for
the blue screen).
There are no international, uniform regulations regarding use of the film-screen combina-
tions; national regulations (e.g §16 RöV) must be observed in the particular country.
Screens and Film Manufacturers/Types
P Enter the value in the "Quality Certificate”.
Color Sensitivity of the Films and Screens
P Enter the value in the "Quality Certificate”.
Sensitivity, S
P The sensitivity, S (speed), specified by the manufacturer must be recorded for each
film-screen combination.
As a rule (in some countries, this is specified), this is the S value on the cassettes (e.g. S
= 200, S = 400) or it must be taken from the data sheets for the film-screen combinations.
The sensitivity of a film-screen combination is defined according to ISO 9236 as the quo-
tient of 1000 µGy and the air kerma (dose) KS required to achieve an optical density
(blackening) of 1 above base fog.

A minimum resolution RGr in LP/mm is assigned to each required dose KS, i.e. the higher
the required dose is for a film-screen combination, the higher the resolution that must be
reached in order to justify the increased dose.
P The particular minimum resolution, RGr must be taken from the illustration for each
film-screen combination used and must be documented.

• If a BWS is configured, the + 90° end position should not be changed.

• If the factory setting is changed at the customer's request (e.g.), perform the adjust-
ment of the end positions again.

NOTE If tomo is configured, the unit stop position may not be set < 88°,
otherwise tomo will be blocked with room heights of < 2.85 m or it
will not be possible to lower the tabletop.

Correction:
• In the XCS SSW,
- click on < Components >
- < ICONOS >
.
• In the ICONOS SSW,
- click on < Adjustment >

Depending on the customer's request: Switching on the collimator light localizer is also
possible from the ICONOS remote control console (light key). Switching off is not possi-
ble.
• To switch on the light localizer: In the ICONOS remote control console, move the
jumper on the D41 from XP4 to XP12
or
• To switch on the room light: In the ICONOS remote control console, move the jumper
on the D41 from XP4 to XP12.

Changing the Fluoroscopy Field Limitation 0

P • If the collimator plates are adjusted larger at the customer's request, determine the
amount of over-framing and record this in Quality Certificate 1.
Workflow
• Unit in 0°position. Set an SID of 115 cm Select I.I. full format.
• Place the centering cross on the tabletop; when doing this, set the X axis in the tabletop
transverse direction.
• Switch fluoroscopy ON. Collimate a radiation field of approx. 4 x 4 cm and position the
centering cross so it is centered to the radiation field.
• Open the collimator all the way. Starting from the center of the centering cross, going in
the width and length directions, read the cm division of the four X1, X2, Y1, Y2 coordi-
nates displayed on the monitor and record the values. Perform this for all I.I. formats
and all SIDs.
• In pace of the centering cross, place a cassette with film (at least 35 x 35 cm or 14 x 14")
turned 45° on the tabletop and center it to the light field. Trigger fluoroscopy with the col-
limator open all the way for all I.I. formats until sufficient film density is achieved. Make a
test film for each SID, whereby all 4 I.I. formats are visible. Evaluation is possible
because of the different film blackening of the individual formats. Make a test film for
each SID.
• Measure the width (X) and length (Y) of the radiation fields on the test films and record
the values.
Admissible Overframing of the I.I. Formats in the Centering Cross Plane:
SID 115 cm = 2.1 cm
SID 150 cm = 2.8 cm
