LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET 2

VECTORS and VECTOR ADDITION USING COMPONENT METHOD

Any vector can be expressed as the sum of vectors parallel to the x and y and if needed
the z- axes. The x,-y- and z - components of a vector indicate the magnitude and direction of
the three vectors along the axes. A component has magnitude, and an algebraic sign of
positive (+) or negative (-). The sign of a component indicates the direction along that axis. A
positive x
component indicates the direction of the positive x- axis, but a negative x-component indicates
the opposite direction (negative x-axis).

Learning Competency with Code

Calculate directions and magnitudes of resultant vectors using component method. PROCEDURE

Note: Practice Personal Hygiene Protocols at all times.

EXERCISE. Calculate the magnitude and the direction of the resultant vector
A student drives his car 6.0 km, North before making a right hand turn and driving 6.0 km to the
East. Finally, the student makes a left hand turn and travels another 2.0 km to the north.
