mode, mean and median.
iv) Difficulties in using Scientific Calculator and Microsoft Excel.
LESSON BEGINNING
Time Students’ Task OR Teachers’ Classroom Role of Teaching
Allocation Presentation Discourse Aids/Technology
10 Students are presented with one 1. Teacher MS PowerPoint ,
minutes statistical problem : explain the MS Excel &
problem Scientific
“ 6 students of class 2 SAT are given given. Calculator.
Mathematics Quiz questions with a 2. Teacher ask
minimum score of 20. The table students :
below shows their results.” “How we are
going to
complete this
table? What
steps need to
be taken?”

Possible answer :
- Complete the
new score
values for all
students.
- Find the
mean, mode
and median
one by one
starting from
row n until
row (nx3).
DEVELOPMENT PHASE
10 Task 1 1. Teacher then MS PowerPoint
minutes Students are presented with the shows the Slide 3 , MS
incomplete data representation for the students on Excel Sheet 1 &
uniform change in data. how to Scientific
complete the Calculator.
- Students are required to complete data in row
the table. (n+1).
2. Students then
complete the
other rows by
referring to
the teachers’
example.
3. Teacher then
asks : “What
can you find
or conclude
by comparing
the answers
obtained?”
Possible answer :
- The mode, mean
and median will
have a uniform
change if the
changes occurred
in the original
data is uniform.
10 Task 2 1. Teacher then MS PowerPoint
minutes Students are presented with the shows the Slide 6 , MS
incomplete data representation for the students on Excel Sheet 2 &
non- uniform change in data. how to Scientific
complete the Calculator.
- Students are required to complete data in row
the table. (addition to
the score).
2. Students then
complete the
other rows by
referring to
the teachers’
example.
3. Teacher then
asks : “What
can you find
or conclude
by comparing
all the
answers
obtained?”
Possible answer :
- The mode, mean
and median will
have a non-
uniform change if
the changes
occurred in the
original data is
not uniform.
5 minutes Students are presented a slide on the 1. There are two MS PowerPoint
differences between the uniform types of Slide 9
changes and non-uniform changes changes

for mean,
mode and
median.
2. Teachers then
explain the
uniform and
the non-
uniform
changes
effect on
mean, mode
and median,
and the
possible
examples.

today?
3. Can someone
explain briefly
what we have
learnt today?
Assessment:
Students need to answer all the question below.
1. Ammara bought 5 types of exercises book at the book store, which cost RM8, RM9,
RM9, RM12, Rm15 and RM30,
i) Calculate the mean, median and mode for the data.
ii) Calculate the new mean, median and mode if the price of each exercise book
a. Is increased by RM3
b. Is multiplied by RM2
2. Given the following numbers : 2,3,4,6,6,8 and 12.
i) Determine the mean, median and mode of the set of the data above.
ii) Calculate the new mean, median and mode if
a. 2 is added to each number
b. 2 is subtracted from each number
c. Each number is multiplied by 2
d. Each number is divided by 2.
3. The mean of four numbers is 14. If two numbers, xand x +3 are added to the set of
data, the new mean is 15. Calculate the value of x .
4. The mean of four numbers is 72. Two of the numbers are 56 and 28. The value of the
other two number is x respectively.
i) Calculate :
a. The sum of the four numbers
b. The value of x.
ii) Remove number 56 from the four numbers. Calculate the new value of mean.
