Introductory Message
Welcome to TVL 11 – HE (Caregiving)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts

of the Schools Division of Sagay and DepEd Regional Office VI-Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This
is developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The TVL 11 – HE (Caregiving) Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will
be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent
learning.

For the learner:

The TVL 11 – HE (Caregiving) Activity Sheet is developed to help you

continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on
the agreed schedule.

Foster The Physical Development of Children (PD)

I. Learning Competency
LO 2. Create opportunities for children to develop a wider range of physical
development
2.1 Explain the factors that vary opportunities to support children’s
development.
II. Background Information for Learner

Factors That Vary Opportunities to Support Children’s Development

The optimum development of children is not only dependent on the good genes
inherited from their parents but also on the environment or surrounding they were brought up.
Included in this environment are the home where they were raised, the quality and amount
service given to them by their parents, members of the family, school, church and the
community where they live.

Specifically, the factors that vary opportunities to support children’s development

include the following:

1. Children/ Worker Ration. Taking the home as setting, children belonging to a small family,
that is, with four children or less tend to receive more care and attention than other children
coming from a large family, say, with five or more siblings. If a worker takes care of few
children, he/ she can give more care and attention to them than having to take care of a
large number of children. The ration of one worker to one child may be too idealistic but
possible, given the good financial resources of the family or the institution providing the
service.

2. Physical Environment. A supportive development for the optimum development of children

is one that is safe from hazards like noise and dust pollutions and physical obstructions that
can cause accidents and a surrounding that is conducive to learning; peaceful, comfortable,
sufficient space to move about, play equipment to use and develop their physical self and
channel their energy to creative use.

3. Amount and Type of Support of Parents. Parents are not only responsible for the
education of the child, but also on the selection of best schools they can afford. More
importantly, despite their busy schedule from their work or outside commitment, they must
give their day to day experience, appreciate their accomplishments no matter how little, give

4
them support in their studies in whatever form, and guide them with their problems be it
intellectual, emotional or social in nature.
4. Level of support. The higher or more support extended to the children, the better for their
development. Support maybe in the form of finances to help defray expense for good
nutrition, good education, good housing or in the form of social activities where there is
harmonious relationship with others be it the members of the family or those in school and
community; moral and spiritual where the children receive guidance and encouragement to
pursue their interests or do what is right and acceptable.

5. Frequency and regularity of services provided by the child provider in the form of the
following:
a. Providing the basic necessities of children—food, clothing and shelter—is important
basically for survival and strengthening of their physical self.
b. Providing opportunities for the children to interact and mix with others—playmates,
schoolmates and peers—to help them develop social skills, that is, in getting
along with others.
c. Providing an affectionate and loving care to help them develop a positive self-image
capable of being affectionate to others.
d. Providing opportunities to use their ability and creativity will help them develop their
confidence and their feelings of achievement and self- worth.

6. Age of the children. The age of the children influences the amount and frequency of
service given to them. The younger the children the greater is the amount of time and the
more frequent one has to attend to them because the children are totally dependent
on the service provided for their needs.
