5 SENSES
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: BRAIN, SPINAL CORD
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: NERVES

EYE

01
Stimuli: Light Waves
Experiments: Blind spot: The act of
concentrating attention on the cross throws its
image on to the fovea and the image of the dot
on to the periphery of the retina to the left of
the fovea. As the book approaches the face, the
distance between the images of the cross and
dot increases until that of the dot falls on the
blind spot, whereupon the dot disappears.
Others: Perception, Eye Dominance, Hand Eye
Coordination

NOSE
02 Stimuli: Smells (airborne chemicals)
Experiment: Try to identify what the substance
is by only smelling it. That’s because as you
chew, you’re forcing air through your nasal
passages, carrying the smell of the food along
with it. Without that interplay of taste and smell,
you wouldn’t be able to grasp complex flavors.

TONGUE
03 Stimuli: Taste (dissolved chemicals)
Experiment: Close your nose and put the food
on each specific part of the tongue and see if
the taste changes. Each part of the tongue has a
specific taste (salty, sour, sweet, bitter and
umami) and by putting different foods on
different parts of the tongue, the food will taste
different.

EARS

04 Stimuli: Motion, Sound waves

Experiment: N/A

SKIN

05 Stimuli: Pressure, Pain, Temperature

Experiment: cross your middle and pointer
finger and place them on a marble, it should feel
as if there are two marbles. This is because
When the two areas are stimulated
simultaneously by the same object in the
absence of visual evidence, the brain makes its
usual interpretation, giving the sensation of two
objects.
