Evaluating Functions

Name of the Learner : ________________________________________ Section : _______________

School : ________________________________________ Date : _______________

I. Learning Competency

1. The learner evaluates a function. (M11GM-Ia-1)

II. Key Concepts

 Evaluating functions works very much like evaluating expressions. For this lesson, we will be
simplifying the expression which is part of the function to find the value of the given function
𝑓𝑓(𝑥𝑥).

 Example: Evaluate the function 𝑓𝑓(𝑥𝑥) = 𝑥𝑥 − 3 at 𝑥𝑥 = 3.

Solution:
𝑓𝑓 (𝑥𝑥 ) = 𝑥𝑥 − 3 = 3 − 3 = 0

Thus, the value of the function when 𝑥𝑥 = 3 is 0.

III. Guided Practice
