that conduct electricity is used for
electrical wiring.
F. Plumbing– metal pipes are
commonly used to carry freshwa-
ter into the house
G. Cement slab– cement is used
to make a fairly smooth, stable
base for floor tile, wood, or car-
pet. It is also used as a foundation
to support wall

Talc are used to make the roofing material improves
their weather resistance. It is also dusted onto the
surface of roll roofing and shingles to prevent stick-
ing.
Iron has a great formability, durability, good tensile
and fire resistance.
Asbestos is extremely resistance to heat, chemical
corrosion and it can strengthen the durability of
whatever it is mixed into.
Iron Iron has a high resistance to abrasion, ductility, elas-
ticity , malleability and tensile strength.
Aluminum Aluminum provides structural strength to the win-
dows and it is also fire proof.
Copper Copper has high ductility, medium strength, good
resistance to erosion and excellent electrical conduc-

Gold is also a good conductor of electricity and it
cannot be tarnish .
Lead Lead has high malleable , ductile and resistance to
corrosion and tiny leaks.

Copper has a durable and highly corrosion resistant.
Silica Sand helps the concrete fill voids between coarse
aggregates and makes concrete more compact and

dense, thus increasing the strength of concrete.
Silica in concrete improves its strength, durability
and abrasion resistance.
Generalization: What are the learning and/or realization you have made as you go on with this activi-
ty? Do we really need to understand the properties of materials that we are using in building infra-
structure?
I learned a lot of things while doing this activity. Each part of the house needs different kinds of
materials. This involves iron, lead, copper, aluminum, gold, asbestos, sand, gypsum, silica and talc.
Each material should fit as to its function. In the same manner, every part of the house has its own
purpose to serve and protect the residents from weather conditions.
It is necessary for us to know the properties of materials that we are using in building infra-
structure because of each unique characteristics. Every type of minerals must be placed where it is
functional and maximize its purpose. For example, we place asbestos as insulator and it cannot be re-
placed as roofing because it will be easily damage by the weather condition.
