CHAPTER I

1
INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

According to some studies, Facility conditions, design, and utilization helps

in improving student’s academic performance. Indoor air quality, thermal comfort

and lighting are some of the most important things a school needs to prioritize.

Those are important because it can easily affect the student’s learning. Without a

fair and even distribution of indoor air, thermal comfort, and most especially

lighting, it could be uncomfortable for the students to learn which means the

students can’t study properly which can, lead to poor academic performance.

One study found 20 percent faster student progress on math and 26 percent

faster progress in reading compared with students in classrooms with less

exposure to daylight.(Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 2004; Heschong Mahone

Group, 1999)

Building size, aesthetic, and environmental quality are some of the factors

that is important under Facility design. Those factors are important because it

would be difficult for the students to study if their classroom don’t have enough

space for them to learn well. It wouldn’t be helpful for the students to study if

there are so many students in just one classroom, just like most of the public

schools here in the Philippines. The school administration put a lot of students in

one classroom that is why some students are suffering from low grades because

they can’t concentrate well in the class discussions because of the student’s

population in a single classroom. Also, it wouldn’t be nice to study if their learning

2
space doesn’t even look good and doesn’t have any motivation to study well. It is

helpful for the students to have a beautiful, clean, and well-maintained classroom

so that they can concentrate well on their studies. Another reason is we have to

keep our surroundings clean so that the students can study comfortably. It is

better to have no distractions while studying because focus and concentration is

important in studying.

According to the Department of Education School Planning Guidelines

Handbook, Location/environment, Accessibility, Topography, and Soil condition

are some of the requirements in a school site. A school must be, as much as

possible, far from cockpits, malls, gambling dens, beer and videoke joints, etc. so

that the students won’t be tempted to go in any of it. It is normal for the students

to become curious of what’s in his/her surroundings that’s why the school must

be aware of the things that can have a bad influence to the students. Next, a

school site must be easily accessible to the greatest number of pupils/students

so that the school can be easily found. The contour of the land is important and it

should be levelled and should have no irregular boundaries because a plain and

straight land is helpful in having a quadrangle in a school campus.

Having an enough sets of computers, internet connections, and well-equipped

laboratories are important in a school facilities. It is much needed because it can

3
help a lot in students learning. An actual practice is needed in students learning

because it can add an additional knowledge to the students and can help the

children to develop their skills in learning different things that will surely help

them in their future studies.

Computers and internet connections are very useful in students learning

because it can help the students when it comes to researches. We have to make

use of the modern technology in terms of studying because somehow, it can help

to have a better education and to have more educated people here in our

country.

There are lot of school facilities that are needed and helpful to the

students’ learning and can urge them to do great in school. Having a better and

complete access to the school facilities is the only way the students can have a

much better performance in school.

Statement of the problem

School facilities are needed and important in student’s learning and

performance because a clean, beautiful, and well-ventilated learning space can

boost the ability of the students to be active in participation in school activities

and events. It can also affect the students’ performance because a poor

development or construction of school facilities can discourage the students to

become active in participating in class discussions, school activities and events

which then results to the laziness of the students. To have a better output in

class, and of course to have a good grade, the classroom must be neat and

4
clean so that the students will be encouraged to do the things that can improve

their knowledge instill by their educator.

The statement of the problem talks about the efficiency of the school

facilities on student’s performance. Also, it talks about how helpful the school

facilities when improving the students’ intellectual understanding.

1. How does the school facilities help to improve the students’ knowledge?

2. What are the insights of the students when it comes to the importance of

the School Facilities?

3. Why is it necessary for the school personnel to discuss the importance of

it to the students? If yes how necessary it is? If no why it is necessary?

4. Any recommendations?

Significance of the Study

School facilities are really helpful when it comes to the learning and

studying of the students. It is basically the one who guides the children to be

responsible and also helps the children to know how to take care of the things in

his/her surroundings.
5
The results of this study will be a great benefit to the following:

STUDENTS: The results of this study can help the students a lot because in this

research, the students can have an additional knowledge on how important does

the school facilities in the daily activities of the student. Also, they will know how

the school facilities can affect their studies, learning and their performance in

school.

TEACHERS: The results of this study can also help the teachers because it will

be an advantage for them to teach with complete materials and teaching really

requires the efficiency of the school facilities. Having nice school facilities can

help the teachers to improve the learnings of their students freely because they

know teaching will be much easier with the help of it. Also, school facilities

practices effective teaching of the teachers.

PARENTS: The result of the study can help the parents as well, because being a

parent seeing their child being comfortable with the school facilities assures them

that their children will be a competitive student and will get an additional

knowledge that will help them grow in to a responsible, competitive and law

abiding citizen of this country. Parents’ first impression is very important because

they will do a lot of things just to find a better school with better facilities because

they all want the best for their children.

Scope and Delimitation

6
This study focuses on the school facilities in Bicol College Junior High

School which can affect the students’ performance in school. We conducted a

survey here in our school and the respondents were 100 selected grade 9

students and some students coming from grade 8 level. We chose them

because most of them stayed in school for 2-3 years and we think that they know

about our school’s facilities well. Since they stayed in the school longer than

Grade 7 students, we can assure their knowledge about the school facilities in

our school especially those that can affect their academic performance.

This study aims to have an information about our own school’s facilities

whether this helps the student’s studies or it can affect their learnings or this

facilities serves as advantage for students in their studies. Also, this study helps

the students to be aware on the different school facilities. We want the students

to know different school facilities that they think can affect their school

performance and those school facilities that they think are good and can make

them be active in participating in any activities in school.

This study can help other students’ especially those students that are

enrolled in our school. Also, this is a legit study of School facilities that we think

can affect students’ academic performance.

7
Definition of Terms

The following terms are words that we use in our study in Chapter I.

FACILITY CONDITION, DESIGN AND UTILIZATION- These are the physical

structure and aspects of a school facility. Also, those are the things that we

consider to have every classroom in every school because some of them are the

primary reason of the students why they are suffering from low grades.

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION- These are people who runs the school. Also, they

are the people who are responsible of taking good care and maintaining the

image of the school.

LEARNING SPACE- This is a place where the students can learn and can be

compared to a classroom since they both have a similarities and their role in

students learning are also the same.

BAD INFLUENCE- Those are things or mostly people that are doing things that

aren’t good and can influence another person to do it also. They are people who

ruins their lives and wants other people lives to be destroyed also, especially

students since most of them are doing good in school and some of the bad

influences are just insecure about the lives of the students.

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION- This is the positive outputs of the students in the

school. This can be easily affected of the school facilities especially when they

found discomfort in using a school facility that they think the school didn’t

maintain them well.

8
CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES AND STUDIES

A growing body of research has found that school facilities can have a

profound impact on both teacher and student outcomes. With respect to

teachers, school facilities affect teacher recruitment, retention, commitment, and

effort. With respect to students, school facilities affect health, behavior,

engagement, learning, and growth in achievement. Thus, researchers generally

conclude that without adequate facilities and resources, it is extremely difficult to

serve large numbers of children with complex needs.

Related Literature

According to the US General Accounting Office (GAO) almost three-fourths

of existing US schools in 1996 was constructed before 1970. Of these schools,

about one-third of schools had need of extensive repair or replacement and

almost two-thirds had at least one inadequate building feature such as

substandard plumbing, roofing, or electrical systems. Moreover, 58-percent had

at least one unsatisfactory environmental condition such as inadequate

ventilation, acoustics, or physical security.

Besides general maintenance and construction issues, researchers have found

most schools lack 21st century facilities in the form of infrastructure, laboratories,

9
and instructional space. More than half do not have sufficiently flexible

instructional space for effective teaching to take place.

Thus, facility quality is an important predictor of teacher retention and

student learning. The physical and emotional health of students and teachers

depend on the quality of the physical location, which makes establishing safe,

healthy buildings essential.

The Impact of Facilities

Improving the quality of school facilities is an expensive undertaking.

However, when the positive impacts of facility improvement on teachers and

students are translated into dollar figures, the rewards of such investments far

outstrip the cost of the investments. There are five primary facets of school

facilities: acoustics/noise, air quality, lighting, temperature, and space. These are

addressed below.

Acoustics and Noise

Noise levels greatly affect teacher and student performance. In fact,

excessive noise causes dis-satisfaction and stress in both teachers and students.

Research has found that schools that have classrooms with less external noise

are positively associated with greater student engagement and achievement

compared to schools with classrooms that have noisier environments.

Thus, building schools that buffer external noise from classrooms can

improve student outcomes.

10
Air Quality

Indoor air quality is also a concern because poor air quality is a major

contributor to absenteeism for students with asthma. Research also indicates

that many schools suffer from “sick building syndrome” which affects the

absenteeism and performance of all students. Moreover, bacteria, viruses, and

allergens that contribute to childhood disease are commonly found in schools

with poor ventilation systems.

Indoor pollutants are also emitted from office equipment, flooring materials,

paints, adhesives, cleaning products, pesticides, and insects. All of these

environmental hazards can negatively affect children, particularly in schools with

poor ventilation systems.

Lighting

Before the advent of cheap electricity, schools often relied on natural

lighting. As electric power costs declined, the amount of artificial light used in

schools increased. Research has shown that artificial lighting has negative

impacts on those in schools while natural lighting has positive impacts. In fact,

research has shown that not only does classroom lighting boost the morale of

teachers and students, appropriate amounts of natural lighting also reduces off-

task behavior and improves test scores.

11
One study found that students with the most exposure to natural daylight

progressed 20% faster in in math and 26% faster in reading than students who

were taught in environments with the least amount of natural light.

Proper Temperature and Control of Temperature

One consistent research finding across individuals of all ages is that the

temperature in which a person works affects engagement levels and overall

productivity including student achievement. Anyone that has worked in a

classroom or office that is too hot or too cold knows how difficult it can be when

trying to work when the temperature is uncomfortable. According to the best

analyses, the ideal temperature range for effective learning in reading and

mathematics is between 68º and 74º.

To maintain such a temperature in every classroom within a school,

teachers typically need to be able to control the temperature in their own

classroom. At the very least, teachers should be able to control the temperature

of small blocks of classrooms that receive the same amount of sunlight and have

similar exposures to outside temperatures.

Classroom Size and Space

Overcrowded classrooms—and schools—have consistently been linked to

increased levels of aggression in students. Overcrowded classrooms are also

associated with decreased levels of student engagement and, therefore,

decreased levels of learning.

12
Alternatively, classrooms with ample space are more conducive to

providing appropriate learning environments for students and associated with

increased student engagement and learning. Classroom space is particularly

relevant with the current emphasis on 21st century learning such as ensuring

students can work in teams, problem solve, and communicate effectively.

Classrooms with adequate space to reconfigure seating arrangements facilitate

the use of different teaching methods that are aligned to 21st century skills.

Creating private study areas as well as smaller learning centers reduces visual

and auditory interruptions, and is positively related to student development and

achievement.

Twenty-First Century Learning

Policymakers, educators, and business people are now focused on the

need to ensure that students learn 21st century skills such as teamwork,

collaboration, effective communication, and other skills. As noted above, older

buildings simply are not conducive to the teaching of 21st century skills. This is

particularly true with the respect to reconfiguring seating arrangements to

facilitate various modes of teaching and learning and the use of technology in the

classroom as a mode of teaching and learning.

Conclusions

A large body of research over the past century has consistently found that

school facilities impact teaching and learning in profound ways. Yet state and

local policymakers often overlook the impact facilities can play in improving

13
outcomes for both teachers and students. While improving facilities comes at a

financial cost, the benefits of such investments often surpass the initial fiscal

costs. Policymakers, thus, should focus greater attention on the impacts of

facilities and adopt a long-term cost-benefit perspective on efforts to improve

school facilities.

Related Studies

The educational infrastructure in the United States of America has

primarily been a function of state and local responsibility. While the goal of many

states has been to create learning environments where children can be properly

educated and prepared for the future, numerous reports and studies have

indicated our nation’s school facilities are in poor condition. The studies included

in this section disrepute the common worldview that the United States is a

formidable powerhouse in education. Many studies have shown the opposite to

be true and have thus drawn attention to the sharp contrast between the ideals of

equality set forth by our founding fathers and the lived realities of individuals who

reside in this country. The aim of this section, then, is to consider the condition of

America’s educational infrastructure via studies which indicate deteriorating,

inequitable facilities lead to reduced learning and poor academic achievement for

poor and minority children.

14
In her quantitative study which examined the impact of parental

involvement on the condition of Washington D.C. public schools, Maureen

Edwards (1991) found the condition of public school buildings to be statistically

related to the academic achievement of students. Using a regression model to

test her hypothesis that the condition of school buildings affected academic

achievement, Edwards (1991) also measured the overall condition of the schools

in her study by assigning a scale score (1=excellent, 2= fair, and 3= poor)to each

building. In the end, Edwards (1991) found an “improvement in the condition of

the school by one category . . . is associated with an improvement in average

academic achievement scores of 5.5 percentage points” Of great significance is

the fact that Edwards (1991) has statistically proven that students has statistically

proven that students better maintained buildings”. Embedded in these results are

policy implications which suggest funding for public school building maintenance

and capital improvements must be adequate and not subject to budget

reductions. Edwards (1991) thus surmises that “good infrastructure is truly at the

base of a quality education” and for a “society searching for ways to address the

educational needs of the future, the building itself is a good place to start”.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

METHOD OF RESEARCH

Before we conduct the survey we thought first what will be the tittle of our

research paper and the different questions that can help us in our research. Then

we made a survey question and presented it to our teacher who will be the one to

check and give her comments.

We surveyed 4 sections of Grade 9 and one section of Grade 8. Before we begin

the survey, we read the letter of consent first to them and we explain what our

survey question contains. After that we have given the survey and after 5-10

minutes we collected it. Then, we came back in the room to talk to our teacher

what the students said about our survey questions and our teacher explained

what we will do with the survey questions and we started to make a Chapter 1.

We thought of formula where we can get the percentage of the survey. When we

find out the result, the Grade 8-Matatag has the highest percentage of students

16
who answered “yes” and the lowest is the Grade 9-Diligent. While the highest

percentage of students who answered “no” is the Grade 9-Obedient and the

lower percentage is Grade 8 and 9 diligent. At times the highest percentage is

diligent and the lowest is obedient.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT APPLIED

FREQUENCY

There are 100 students in Bicol College Junior High School who answered

our survey question. Our questions are answerable by yes, no or sometimes.

Others answered yes, no and sometimes. They also have not given their

comments. Many responded yes followed sometimes and the last was the no.

But others do not know what school facilities are. We are only surveying about

100 students only because we cannot handle this if it increases. We surveyed 4

grade 9 sections and 1 grade 8 section and in each sections we just pick 20

students to answer our survey questions.

PERCENTAGE

As we get the percentages we use two formulas first when we get the first

graph we make the formula is F / N x 100 = second point percent is F / N x10

x100 = percentage. When we solved it the most percentage in yes is grade 8 -

Matatag with 50.5% and the lowest is grade 9 - Diligent with only 33.5%. Those

17
who answered the highest number said no grade 9 - Obedient reaching only 26%

and the lowest grade is grade 8 - Matatag and grade 9 - Diligent with only 13% of

the two. Those who said that the highest was answered grade 9 - Diligent at

53.5% and the lowest percentage was grade 9 - Obedient with only 35.5%.

Formula:

F/N x100= %

Where in:

F= Number of respondents who answered yes, no, or sometimes

N = Number of respondents

GENEROUS 20% 20

OBEDIENT 20% 20

DILIGENT 20% 20

INDUSTRIOUS 20% 20

18
Out of 100 respondents each of them has 20%. The 20% is for the

Matatag, Generous, Obedient, Diligent, and Industrious. We find out that grade 9

and the Matatag are the same in their familiarities in the school facilities.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The instrument we used was the survey question, computers, Google

and the internet because of this we made the thesis we could easily search for it.

We’ve got many Google ideas for our survey question. Because of the survey

question we learned that students are having difficulty in studying because their

school has nothing to do with especially in computer labs that the computers do

not have enough time to turn 6-10 computers into one or two them each on the

computer. They also find it difficult to study because there is no computer lab in

Wi-Fi. They also need Wi-Fi in the computer lab especially they need it in their

researches.

Data Gathering

We conducted a survey in Bicol College Junior High School. But before

that we conduct a survey question we first read the letter that was given and

provided by our English teacher Ms. Delia Secretario for us to conduct the survey

properly and we explained how will tanswered that survey questions. The

findings said that the Grade 8 Matatag has the highest percentage who

19
answered yes and lowest in no. The Grade 9 Generous is the second to the

highest percentage in sometimes. Then the Grade 9 Obedient has the highest

percentage who answered No and lowest percentage who answered sometimes.

While the grade 9 Diligent has the highest percentage who answered sometimes,

lowest percentage who answered yes and no and the grade 9 Industrious is the

second to the highest percentage who answered yes and second to the highest

who answered sometimes

There were 10 questions given answerable by yes, no, and sometimes.

According to the survey 77% of the students are familiar in the school facilities

and 14% said that the school facilities affect their enthusiasm in studying. As a

CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATIONS OF DATA

This chapter presents description and explanation of the findings driven

by our survey that was conducted last November 21, 2017 with our topic entitled,

School Facilities on Students Performance. The results shows the impact of the

school facilities in the daily lives of the students and how it help them to be more

engage in their studies.

Our research study states the possible linkage of the school facilities on

the performance of the students. To fulfill our research we conducted a survey

among random students in all the sections in grade 9 and a section in grade 8.

The survey questions focuses about the insights of the Bicol College Junior High

School students regarding the importance of the school facilities in their

performance, how it help them in their daily living in school, and what are the

roles of these school facilities in their school lie.

Results of the Study

According to the data that we gathered from the survey it shows that in the

first question there are 77% of respondents who answered yes, 5% of

23
respondents who answered no, and 18% of respondents who answered

sometimes. In the second question there are 31% of respondents who answered

yes, 8% of respondents who answered no, and 61% of respondents who

answered sometimes. In the third question there are 28% of respondents who

answered yes, 10% of respondents who answered no, and 62% of respondents

who answered sometimes. In the fourth question there are 46% of respondents

who answered yes, 9% of respondents who answered no, and 45% of

respondents who answered sometimes. In the fifth question there are 57% of

respondents who answered yes, 6% of respondents who answered no, and 37%

of respondents who answered sometimes. In the sixth question there are 22% of

respondents who answered yes, 25% of respondents who answered no, and

53% of respondents who answered sometimes. In the seventh question there are

14% of respondents who answered yes, 59% of respondents who answered no,

and 27% of respondents who answered sometimes. In the eight question there

are 17% of respondents who answered yes, 35% of respondents who answered

no, and 48% of respondents who answered sometimes. In the ninth question

there are 39% of respondents who answered yes, 14% of respondents who

answered no, and 47% of respondents who answered sometimes. Then lastly in

the tenth question there are 74% of respondents who answered yes, 7% of

respondents who answered no, and 19% of respondents who answered

sometimes.

The question numbers 1, 5, and 10 contains the questions where the

majority of the respondent’s answered yes, while the question numbers 2,3,6,8,

24
and 9 contains the questions where the majority of the respondents answered

sometimes then the question number 7 contains the question where the majority

of the respondents answered no. For the questions that have the least

respondents who answered yes are in the question numbers 6, 7 and 8. And for

the questions that have the least respondents who answered no are in the

question numbers 1, 2,3,5,9.

Of all the 5 sections where we conducted our survey the Grade 8- Matatag

has 50.5% of respondents who answered yes, 13% of respondents who

answered no, and 36.5% of respondents who answered sometimes. In 9-

Generous they had 39% of respondents who answered yes, 19% of respondents

who answered no, and 42% of respondents who answered sometimes. While in

9- Obedient there are 38.5% of respondents who answered yes, 26% of

respondents who answered no, and 35.5% of respondents who answered

sometimes. Next, the 9-Diligent has 33.5% of respondents who answered yes,

13% of respondents who answered no, and 53.5% of respondents who answered

sometimes. Then lastly in 9-Industrious there are 41% of respondents who

answered yes, 18% of respondents who answered no, and 41% of respondents

who answered sometimes.

Interpretations of Data

Through the data from the data that we conducted we prove that the

students have various insights, opinion and perspective regarding the effects of

the school facilities in their daily performance. The survey shows that there are

25
some student who are fully aware about the role of the school facilities in their

daily lives during their school days. There are also some students who are aware

about its importance but not that much in short there are students who only know

the functions of the different school facilities but not its great contribution in

making their life easy during the school days. While sad to say there are also

some students who doesn't know its importance and contribution in their school

lives.

Based from the results our data it states that:

(1) Many of the students in Bicol College Junior High School are familiar

with the school facilities. (2) Many students in Bicol College Junior High School

occasionally use the school facilities. (3) There are only times that the students in

Bicol College Junior High School enjoy the use of the school facilities. (4) Most of

the students in Bicol College Junior High School say that it is really convenient to

use the school facilities. (5) Many students in Bicol College Junior High School

take good care of the school facilities. (6) The students in Bicol College Junior

High School doesn't always have enough access with the school facilities. (7)

The students in Bicol College Junior High School said that school facilities

doesn't affect their enthusiasm in studying. (8) There are only times that the

school facilities meet the school demands of the students in Bicol College Junior

High School. (9) There are times that the school facilities help the students in

Bicol College Junior High School to improve their knowledge. (10) Most of the

26
students in Bicol College Junior High School said that the school facilities should

be more improved.

After computing the tally of all the answers in the survey questions it

shows that most respondents answered sometimes next is yes and lastly is no

this happens due to the awareness and knowledge that the respondents have

about the school facilities. Another one is the students experience in using the

school facilities and their different perspective about the use and importance of

those in their everyday activities in school. Having a conducive and adequate

school facilities helps the students to be more attentive to the class discussions

and engages them to be more active in the school activities and makes them

more responsible about the things around them. Otherwise having an inadequate

and a poor quality facilities in school decreases the students attentiveness and

enthusiasm in gaining more knowledge thus it can lead the students to have a

poor performance.

To avoid this event every school should provide a fully equipped facilities

that will guide and help each and every students to attain the knowledge they

needed and where the students can fully developed their skills and abilities and a

facilities where the students can reach their full potential. If the school failed to

achieve the students demands on school facilities or failed to provide adequate

facilities for the students the school administrators or any officials that is in

charge in providing the school facilities should at least find alternatives where the

students can still enjoy the benefits and convenience of the school facilities and

27
where the inadequacy of the school should not affect the performance of the

students in school.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter will provide a summary of purpose, methodology and results

of the study. The conclusions will be discussed based on researchers insights

gained regarding on what they found out on how the facilities effect on students’

performance and participation with the help of survey forms conducted by the

researchers and answered by 100 selected students of Bicol College High

School Department and those students comes from selected Grade 8 and Grade

9 students. Finally, a set of recommendation will be given for professional

purposes and for those who are interested in pursuing additional research to

exceed the scope and findings of this study.

SUMMARY

28
The purpose of the study is to know how the school facilities effect on

students’ performance also we would like to see how helpful the facilities of the

school in enhancing and improving the students intellectual understanding. We

conducted the survey on Grade 8 and Grade 9 students because we believe that

these students already know the facilities of the school and we expect them to be

familiar in all the facilities and how they will use it properly to develop their skills

and to educate themselves so that they can participate in all the activities given

by their teachers. This study aims to have an information about our own school’s

facilities whether this helps the student’s studies or it can affect their learnings or

this facilities serves as advantage for students in their studies.

Also, this study helps the students to be aware on the different school

facilities. We want this research to help other students’ especially those students

that are enrolled in our school to know that facilities can affect their participation

in school and for them to know how important having good and well ventilated

facilities. In this case we conducted a survey in one section of Grade 8 and 4

sections of Grade 9, in those sections we only select some students that are

willing to answer our survey forms and all in all we have 100 selected students.

According to our survey the Grade 8-Matatag has the highest percentage

of students who answered “yes” and the lowest is the Grade 9-Diligent. While the

highest percentage of students who answered “no” is the Grade 9-Obedient and

the lower percentage is Grade 8- Matatag and Grade- 9 Diligent, At times the

highest percentage is diligent and the lowest is obedient.

29
We use two formulas for use to get the total percentage, in getting the

first graph the formula is (F / N x 100 = second point percent) Second is (F / N

x10 x100 = percentage). When we solved it the most percentage in “YES” is

Grade 8 - Matatag with the total of (50.5%) and the lowest is Grade 9 - Diligent

with the total of (33.5%) only. To those who answered “NO” the highest

percentage was Grade 9 - Obedient reaching (26%) and the lowest grade is

Grade 8 - Matatag and Grade 9 - Diligent with only (13%) of the two. Those who

answered “SOMETIMES” the highest was Grade 9 – Diligent with a total of

(53.5%) and the lowest percentage was Grade 9 - Obedient with only (35.5%).

This results point out that there are some student who are fully aware on

how the school facilities support their daily development during their school days

and how it help to make the things easier for them so that they can be familiar

with all the things that they want to know and learn.

While there are some students who are not much aware on how

important the facilities and how it can affect their studies to cut a long story short

there are students who are familiar with the uses of the facilities but not the role

and goals of those facilities to give additional support to develop and shape their

intellectual capacity into comprehensive and wide- ranging students. While the

others, sad to say but there are some students who isn’t familiar to its uses and

contribution in developing their skills and to be a competitive students.

30
CONCLUSION

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the students on how they know

what are the importance of the different facilities of the school and do they know

that this facilities and equipment’s can be their advantage and disadvantage in

getting additional information to grow and improve their skills so that they can be

competitive with self-assurance that the data or information’s that they gain was

purely right. We learned something in conducting this research that having a well

ventilated and well equipped schools can provide and produce a competitive

students.

We also learned that acoustics/noise, air quality, lighting, temperature,

and space are the five primary aspects that should be noticed in every facilities.

The physical and emotional health of students and teachers depend on the

quality of the physical location having a poor environment can also affect

students and teachers attention or concentration that may lead to poor

31
development of the students. According to the study and surveys that we

conducted many students are affected by having poor quality of facilities and

they can also say that these facilities affect their studies, even the school

personnel’s are affected just like teachers and parents of the students.

We therefore conclude that school facilities can affect students’

performance and can be a hindrance in giving knowledge in every students. This

only means that the Facilities should be improved and enhance so that the

students will get the satisfaction and right amount of information also all students

must know first the importance and uses of all the facilities and it should be

discussed properly by school personnel’s. We base this conclusion from the

survey and the research that we conducted.

RECOMMENDATION

The research has developed several conclusions based upon the data

collection and analysis of this study. The following recommendations are based

upon the results of this research and will hopefully guide other investigation that

is related in this topic, data is gathered and analyzed to form and concluded the

right conclusion in this very important topic.

According to the research that we conducted the students in Bicol College

Junior High School doesn't always have enough access with the school facilities

therefore we recommend that the school should always compromise to the needs

of the student facilities should always be open to all students so that the

problems of the student will become handy.

32
Most of the students in Bicol College Junior High School said that the

school facilities should be more improved in this matter we the researchers

recommend that this problem should be discussed and talk over by the

administration of the school with all the personnel’s of the school so that any

renovation or enhancement made would meet all the expectations of all the

students and teachers also all the people who will be involved in improving the

school facilities shall give approval so that misunderstanding would be lessen or

be avoided.

We believe that students in Bicol College Junior High School take good

care of the school facilities too and in order to do this thing is the school

personnel should be stricter in to creating rules in school and also the students

shall learn how to abide the rules of the school and be disciplined.

Having a beneficial and satisfactory school facilities helps the student to

be more attentive to class discussions and engages them to be more active in

school activities and makes them more responsible about the things around them

but sometimes having poor quality facilities in school decreases the students

attentiveness and enthusiasm in gaining mere knowledge to avoid this

happenings every school should provide fully equipped facilities that can help to

develop the students skill and abilities and reach their full potential and become a

competitive student with self-reliance.

33
ABSTRACT

School Facilities are one of the basic educational requirements, and it is

necessary to maintain safe and high quality school facilities to meet the demands

of every students when it comes to school. This research aims to elaborate the

influence of the school facilities on students’ performance. To start with our study

we conducted a survey to the selected students from grade 9 and 8 of Bicol

College Junior High School. The result of the survey shows that by having a poor

quality school facilities are one of the major contributor that affects the academic

performance of every students. The acoustic/noise, air quality, lighting,

temperature and space are the five primary aspects that contributes to the quality

of school facilities.

34
The performance of each individual related to the interaction in school

facilities relies on this aspects. A school having a high-quality, conducive, and

adequate school facilities could produce a productive and competitive individuals

and having this kind of school facilities helps every students of the school in

showcasing their talents and brings out the full potential of each and every

students.

In the contrary a school having a poor-quality, non-conducive, and

inadequate facilities could possibly produce a lazy and noncompetitive

individuals because this kind of facilities degrades the student’s enthusiasm in

learning new things in school and hinders the students in showcasing their full

potential because of the said situation. To sum it all every school should provide

a school facilities that will support the student’s growth and provide school

facilities that can meet the demands needed in achieving the full acquirement of

knowledge and bring out the full potential of each students.
