In GeoAtlas, click Layers >> Create Layer >> WellBase (or

Expand the Formations directory tree under Database Tables.


Scroll down to the Top Subsea field. While holding down the left
mouse button,

right and place it at the bottom of the well symbol.


The formation and source codes must be defined for the top subsea

Click OK to return to the WellBase Layer Create-New Layer/Template

After the selection is made, the Top Subsea field in the list box to
the left shows a check mark next to it. Formations. Top Subsea now
appears in a text box underneath the well symbol.


Expand the Well Header table in the Database Table tree, and scroll

the right of Name.


Click and hold the left mouse button and draw a box around both
the WellHeader.Name and WellHeader.

Right-click inside one of the highlighted text boxes, and select

Add/Join Text to open the Joined Text Preferences dialog box.

The Jointed Text Preferences dialog box will appear on the

In the WellBase Layer Create - New Layer/Template dialog box,
there is now a single text box above the well symbol.

mouse cursor over the box and the Tool Tip indicates the posting
now contains the Wel Name and the #. Drag the posting to a
desired position above the well symbol.

Click Finish. Then in a similar fashion, drag the Cumulative Oil
Volume and the Cumulative Water Volume fields to the Map Tip

To edit the font attributes of both postings, select both postings by
holding the left mouse button down and dragging a box around
both postings.


Right-mouse click and select Font from the drop-down menu.

Change the Height to 225, and the Style to Bold.
Click OK to return to the WellBase Layer Create dialog box.


In the Name: list box at the bottom of the dialog box, type Wells,

Click OK to begin creating the layer. An advancing bar will appear

Observe that the new layer (Wells, Red River Subsea) appears as the
Active Layer and on the map in GeoAtlas.

Two WellBase layers appear to be displayed on the map. Right-click
on the map and choose Select Layers from the drop-down shortcut
menu.


The Layer Selection dialog box appears on the desktop.


Remove the Wells color-coded by operator layer by highlighting it
in the right pane and clicking the remove button.

Click OK to re-display the map with just one WellBase layer.

In GeoAtlas, click Wells >> Create WellBase Layer….


Select the Wells, Red River Subsea template.
Click OK to open the WellBase Layer Create – New

Layer/Template dialog box.

The Additional Information Needed dialog box appears.


The formation and source codes must be defined for the top subsea
data posting.

Select all source codes by clicking the button to add the codes to
the Selected list box on the right

Click OK to return to the WellBase Layer Create-New Layer/Template
dialog box.


Click and drag the mouse cursor around the two top subsea postings to
select them then right-click and choose Calculate Gross Thickness from
the shortcut menu.


The Resolve Downhole Post message box will appear on the desktop.


Select RDRV (should already be selected) and click OK.

In the Name: list box at the bottom of the dialog box, type Wells,
Red River Isopach.

Click OK to begin creating the layer. An advancing bar will appear in
the lower right corner indicating the progress of the layer creation.

WellBase layers will appear on the map (observe 2 postings below well
symbol) in GeoAtlas.


Remove the Wells, Red River Subsea layer using Layers >> Select.
The Wells, Red River Isopach layer should appear on the map.

Displaying Well Information Using Map Tips
GeoAtlas make the Wells,

In GeoAtlas, Wells Red River Isopach
layer the Active Layer by selecting it from the
drop-down list in the Active layer list box. Click
on Tools >> Map Tips >> Define/Edit to open
the Define Map Tips dialog box



In the Layers and Entities list box, click on Straight hole well.


Notice that the Well ID and Status are automatically
listed for display in Map Tips.
Click the down arrow in the Field column for row 3 to
reveal the list of all data attributes placed in the Map Tip
Bin during layer create. Select Comp Date from the
drop-down list.

In the Field column,

column click on the down arrow in the
Field cell for row 4 to reveal the list of data attributes.
Select Reference from the drop-down list.

Click off the checkmark in the New Line column for

In Row 5, click the down arrow for the Field column and
select Datum Elevation for Field from the drop-down list.
In the Prefix column for the Datum Elevation type a space,

an equals sign and another space ( = ).


For Row 6, select TD from the drop-down list in the Field
column

In GeoAtlas place the cursor on a straight hole well symbol

to reveal the Map Tips.



Accessing a Well in WellBase Using the GeoAtlas Well Info
Tool
In GeoAtlas, zoom in to the Hill #1 well in Section 28 of
Township 24 North,
North Range 56 East as shown below


Make sure that the Wells, Red River Isopach layer is listed in
the Active layer list box in GeoAtlas.
Select Wells >> Well Info Tool >> Display in WellBase in
the GeoAtlas menu bar.

Place the Well Info Tool cursor in the center of the well and
left-click the mouse.


The WellBase Information Manager opens with the scout

Click the Import Spreadsheet icon in WellBase or select

Tools >> Import Spreadsheet from the menu bar in WellBase
to activate the Open dialog box.

Click Open. Microsoft Excel with the survey file contents

should appear on the desktop.

The Spreadsheet lists a deviation survey for the Apache #1

Hill well. Use the down arrow in the Table Names window to
select Survey.
With the mouse cursor located within the yellow bar above
the first column (UWID – column A), right-click

Click the down arrow and scroll down to find Well ID. Click
on Well ID to highlight it. The Well ID field is now associated
with the UWID for the well.


Right-click on the yellow bar above the second column
(Survey # - column B) and associate that column with the
Survey Point Number field in the Survey Fields dialog box.

When all the desired fields have been mapped, click on the

In WellBase,, select the Wells >> Find menu command to find
the Hill # 1 well.
Change the Scout field to Name and type Hill into the Find
what: field.


Click Find Next then close the Find dialog box. The Hill # 1
well

Click the Survey tab to view the survey data imported from the
spreadsheet

The bottom hole information needs to be calculated before
the actual deviation can be observed in the well.

Survey page click the Calculate button. The Survey Calculation
dialog box appears on the desktop.

Click the View Wellbore button .


Use the rotation buttons on the
WellBore Viewer to observe the wellbore in three
dimensions.
Close the Wellbore Viewer and WellBase. The next task,

updating the WellBase layers will be done in GeoAtlas.

arrow in the Field list box and select Cumulative Oil Volume,

Click the Size cell for the last row of data and type 5000.

produce a drop-down arrow. Click the drop-down arrow and
select yellow from the color palette.

down arrow. Click the drop-down arrow and select green
from the color palette.

Click the Ramp: Color button . The color cells
will ramp in color from yellow to green.
Click on the Draw smaller bubbles on to check box.

Click OK in the Layer Display Attributes dialog box.

On the Copy Rendering Definition dialog box select the
Apply to the bottom hole location of deviated wells
option.
