Activity No. 03 : Material Testing

Learning Objective: At the end of this activity, the student must be able to:

1. Apply their knowledge in the mechanical behavior of materials

2. Perform and simulate the use of universal testing machine in determining


the physical property of material.

3. Collaborate with other group members in analyzing and interpreting the


data gathered through the simulation.

Materials Needed: Laptop

Internet Connection

Instruction: 1. With our existing group of 5 members, pick you group leader, other from
the previous activity.

2. Open the link to virtual simulation:

3. Click the List of Experiments, perform the following experiments:

a. Tensile Test on Mild Steel


b. Tensile Test on Cast Iron
c. Compression Test on Mild teel
d. Compression Test on Cast Iron
e. Bending Test on Mild Steel
f. Direct Shear Test on Mild Steel Rod
g. Direct Shear test on Timber Specimen
h. Direct Shear Test on Mild Steel Plate
i. Torsion Test on Mild Steel

Follow the instruction given for each simulation.

Conduct a online meeting for the discussion of result and interpretation.
This must be recorded and documented with minutes.

6. Only group leader shall submit the compile output in pdf file at LMS.

7. The compile output, individual output, recordings, and minutes shall be


uploaded to Google Share Drive in folder Activity 2.

8. There will be a self and peer assessment. Your submission will be


graded by yourself and other groups using the Rubric Assessment
attached on the last page. Schedule of peer assessment is on 8:00 AM
October 5, Tuesday, to 5:00PM October 7, Thursday.
