Learning Task 2

"DEAD STARS" (for Paz Marquez Benitez) by H.O. Santos appeared to be just another love poetry at
first. When I first started reading it, I assumed it was simply another love poetry; however, after
rereading it for the second time, I discovered that I was more intrigued than I had anticipated. This
poem captures the essence of love well. It is incredibly genuine and relevant, particularly in today's
time, where individuals are hesitant to take risks. The title, dead stars, may have a significant
influence on its readers. You can truly feel the agony while reading it because it is told from the
writer's point of view, who is secretly in love. His love became so strong that he never had the
courage to express it in words. Nonetheless, he recognized that not telling her was a mistake and
wondered whether he should have asked her if she felt the same way, but all he can feel now is
remorse.
It is a lyric poetry, which means that the author conveys thoughts via three stanzas, each with a
quatrain, and I can honestly claim that it is a good poem since several aspects of a poem are apparent.
The reader will comprehend the choice of words, and numerous thoughts will spring to mind after
reading it. One question that kept running through my head while reading it was about the sensations
he experienced. Why can't he express his feelings to the girl? One notion that occurred to me was that
perhaps there is something concealed behind that girl's life. One reason he may be unable to express
his true thoughts is that the girl is in a relationship. I think that H.O Santos does an excellent job of
making the readers wonder too. When he makes the readers wonder, he makes it much easier for the
reader to feel what he is feeling. The author also has some beautiful words that can touch the reader’s
heart. He expresses his thought through writing where readers can reflect and make it a good example
of what regret can feel.
Furthermore, the poem teaches me that regret should never be a decision, so if you have the
opportunity to say anything, whether it is about love or possibilities in life, you should seize it since
nothing will be lost, but you may get something in return. Readers may take away a number of
valuable lessons from it. Though I feel sad for the author since he does not have the girl he desires,
the poetry cannot be flawless. They must consider the beauty of the words as well as their
significance. I really enjoy this poem because of how simple it is yet how powerful it can be in your
life, and I strongly suggest it since it deserves to be read by everyone.
