I. Introduction
i. Abstract
The general idea of using video games as a teaching instrument in the classroom has
been greatly debated for countless of year but more and more study shows that there
are some good benefits with the use of video games as a valuable tool for enhancing
education since video games can be modified to promote learning. video games also
facilitate traits that attracts children, teens and adults alike. these can be varied from
simple visual presentation, story, sound design, character design and many more.
Video games can collect learning metrics from the students with relative ease that can
be used to further improve existing video games for learning. study shows
mathematics are often found boring by most students. In this research we develop
educational game that helps promote simple arithmetic ability of the students.
ii. Introduction
In our current generation, children nowadays are growing up in progressing digital
and technological age entirely different from our predecessors. In a world where
every study reference is available on the internet, visiting the library nowadays is a
choice that won't even come to mind. It's even hard to see children presently open
books, let alone educational books. Technology offers excellent ways to make
learning more meaningful for individuals with multiple needs. For starters, students
may study at their speed of understanding, reassess challenging topics, or skip straight
ahead if they need to. However, with so many distractions available on the internet,
video games are advocated as educational tools that can increase students' knowledge
through entertainment.
II. Acknowledgement
With immense pleasure, the proponents of this research wish to thank all those
who gave their unending support. the study and completion of this research would
not be possible without the help of and guidance our professors Mr. Jonathan
Pagurayan, Mr. Louis Cortez Jr. and Mr. Christopher Jay Apalin. We also extend
our deepest gratitude and profound thanks to our friends, families and mentors for
their teachings and encouragements.
The research focuses on the use of basic arithmetic equations using basic arithmetic
operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The educational
video game will have a database to store student's name and score. it can also display
other student's previous score and records.
ii. Delimitation
The educational video game is mostly client sided it has no online features or
registration. The only records that are saved to the database are the inputted
username, character and score. The user or students cannot delete or update their
records.
VIII. Discussion
Video game as whole have always been a subject for attention to both teachers and
parents as it takes away majority of today's youth time and attention. we have use this
known fact on our research to use video games' natural ability to attract children as a tool
for learning. "The Legends of the Lost Mathlord" our developed educational video game
helps student in their lessons as it can enhance and further improve their basic arithmetic
skills. with our educational video game students can now have fun while learning. this
will also remove the stigma of video games as being the cause of students low or failing
grades.
IX. Development
X. Conclusion
In conclusion, education video games need to be implemented and use an instrument for
learning because it lets student from all different learning abilities. video game provides
all students including those with slow leering capabilities such strategy, planning,
solving, time management and with our developed educational game which focuses on
arithmetic problem-solving skills. they can easily use and adopt the all the positive things
that they will learn subconsciously and consciously from educational video games.
Technology is still evolving and at a rapid pace there are so many rooms for
improvement but at our current status today using video games in the classroom as a
learning tool already yields a promising result.
