CHAPTER I

Situational analysis

The existence and ecosystem health of mangrove forests are vital to the long-term

productivity and stability of coastal environments in the Philippines (Salmo et al. 2007).

In this situation, the climate change is now getting worst we need to help the environment

in keeping it safe. Many typhoons and calamities that are destroying the environment.

Mangroves are the important factor to prevent this calamities. It also help the residents in

some sort of livelihood to have a good life.

This study aims to help the residents of Sitio Roma to determine the effect of

mangrove ecosystem in their daily living. The mangrove ecosystem served as the host of

livelihood of some residents of Sitio Roma.

This study help the mangrove ecosystem to make it wider. The mangroves has a big

effect to the place where it planted. Mangroves contribute to fisheries production, which

provide for livelihood and place to live by the wildlife.

Statement of the problem

This study aims to determine the Effects of Mangrove Ecosystem in the People of Sitio

Roma specifically to answer the following questions:

1. What are the benefits that you get from the mangroves?

2. How the mangrove ecosystem help you in your livelihood and in your daily life?

3. What are the things you do to help the mangrove ecosystem progress or develop.

4. How the mangrove ecosystem help the environment of your community?

5. How can you prevent the circumstances of cutting mangroves in your

community?

Objectives of the study

This study aims to:

1. Determine the effect of mangrove ecosystem in the community.

2. Collect ideas how mangrove help people the way they live.

3. Develop a wider mangrove plantation in the area of Sitio Roma.

Importance of the study

The importance of this study is to determine the effect of mangrove ecosystem to the

daily lives of residents of Sitio Roma. The researcher conducted such study is to

determine the benefits and the importance of mangrove ecosystem to the people. This

study help the people to know the importance of mangroves to the environment. This way

the residents of Sitio Roma will be encouraged to plant more mangroves to their

community.

Therefore, the benefit of this study is to help and improve the mangrove ecosystem

to prevent some calamities such as storm surges. Improve the livelihood and help the

environment preventing climate change.

Residents of Sitio Roma: This is important to the residents of Sitio Roma to improve their

knowledge about the benefits of mangroves in their community.

Government sectors: This study is beneficial to the government sectors to improve the

project of clean and green.

Future Researcher: This study is important to the future researcher to used as their source

and reference in conducting a research that is related to this study

Environment: This study is beneficial to the environment to make it better and to prevent

climate change.

Chapter II

Methodology

This chapter presents the locale and time of the study, the subject (respondents),

data collection and data analysis use in this study.

Locale and Time of the Study

This study was conducted at Sitio Roma locate at Barangay Balaring Silay City

Negros Occidental Philippines. This study was conducted on April 1, 2021, the

researcher will conduct this study to know the effect of mangrove ecosystem to the

residents of Sitio Roma.

The Subject ( Respondents)

The respondents of this study were the randomly selected residents of Sitio Roma

who will improve their knowledge about the effect of mangrove ecosystem to their daily

living. The respondents of this study are the residents of Sitio Roma who met the

following criteria:

a. Residents of Sitio Roma living 10 years and more

b. Ages 18 year old and above

c. Residents of Sitio Roma getting source of livelihood in mangroves

Data collection

Step one:

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of mangrove ecosystem to the

residents of Sitio Roma.

The first aim is to determine the benefits of residents to the mangrove ecosystem.

The second aim is to collect informations about the mangrove ecosystem affect

their livelihoods and daily living.

The third aim is to encourage the people to plant more mangrove for better

purpose.

Step two:

The methods and procedures that were use to collect, store, and process the data

are survey questionnaire and in depth interview.

The interview will ask participants an open ended questions in individual

interview.

Step three:

Operationalization

The type of data that were use in this study is qualitative data. The concept that

will be explored is the effect of mangroves the residents of Sitio Roma. The concept will

be operationalize in three ways:

The participants will be asked about the benefits caused by these mangroves.

The participants will be asked about the effect of mangroves to their livelihood.

The participants will be asked about the process of nurturing mangroves in their

community.

Sampling

The sampling will be use in this study is purposeful random sampling.

Standardizing procedures

By conducting interviews, the researcher will asked the question to the respondents

while taking notes, observing and record an audio or vedio granted by the participants.

Creating a data management plan

By collecting data, the participants will be labeled participants 1 to 20 and the

researcher will only asked their occupation, age and how long they live in Sitio Roma.

The data that will be collected will be noted in a pad and will be recorded in

smartphone.

Step four:

To collect data about the effect of mangrove ecosystem to the residents of Sitio

Roma, this study will administer an interview with in depth interview with 6 residents of

Sitio Roma.

The in depth interview will asked the participants about the effects of mangrove

ecosystem in their daily living. The data produced is qualitative and can be categorized

through content analysis for future insights. The data will be noted down and will be

recorded to obtain exact and relevant data.

Data analysis

To collect qualitative data the researcher will conduct an interview with three sets of

questions for in depth interview that will be answer by the respondents. The researcher

will choose participants based on the criteria and asked about the respondents living in

Sitio Roma and how long staying in the Sitio, followed by the age and the occupation of

the respondents (should be the source of their livelihood is the mangrove ecosystem). If

the respondent met the criteria the he/she will be labeled as respondent 1 (1-6). The

researcher will introduce the topic or the title, give the survey questionnaire and main

research questions and asked the respondents the three set of questions in depth

interview. The researcher will conduct a survey to the 20 residents of Sitio Roma and use

random sampling to select the six(6) respondents for in depth interview. First, the

researcher will asked the respondent “What are the benefits that you get from the

mangroves?”. Second, the researcher will asked the respondent “How the mangrove

ecosystem help you in your livelihood?”. Third, the researcher will asked the respondent

“How do you take care the mangroves in your daily living?”. The reaction of the

respondents will noted down in a pad and will be recorded in a smartphone it will be

translated in English if the answers are given in Tagalog or Hiligaynon.

CHAPTER III

This chapter shows the data collected, its analyses and the enterpretations in the

study conducted. It further addresses the objectives of the study which is to determine the

effects of mangrove ecosystem to residents of Sitio Roma, determining the benefits of

residents to the mangrove ecosystem.

RESULTS

Th e data showed the answers of the twenty (20) participants, out of the 20 the

researchers got a sample of eight (8) for the in-depth interview. Participants’ ages ranged

from 18 years old to 50 years old. The order of the participants is based on the order of

the interview.

Discussion

In the question number one (1) Did the mangrove ecosystem had a good benefits

in your daily living? The majority of the respondents shows 100% of them agreed that the

mangrove ecosystem has a good benefit to their daily living. In the question number two

(2) Did you plant a mangrove in your community?
