HISTORY OF MABUNAO

Barangay Mabunao is known nowadays as the Fruit and Vegetable Basket of Bais City. But before
that, according to the lumad in Barangay Mabunao, the name “Mabunao” is taken from a very known tree
which is called “Mabunao”. The people during that time decided to name the place after Mabunao tree since
before times, that kind of tree is very common in that place. Mabunao tree is a kind of tree which grows in a
swampy place,in the creek and river where there is water.

The school was first initiated by the lumads since they are very eager to have their children go to
school. The late Mr. Gaudencio Romeral decided to donate a 1 (10,000 sq. Meters) hectare lot with parcel
of land was under tax declaration no. 1125 which will serve as the school. Way back in 1960’s, according to
some of the old folks we interviewed, the school was called a primary school, wherein the first classroom
was built by a “Sasa” made up of flattened bambo and “kawayan” dried bamboos. That was the first
classroom utilized by the first 2 teachers and pupils beforetimes. In 1985, a one (1) unit Bagong Lipunan
Building was constructed with 3 classrooms. As years passed by its enrolment increases, so in 1995 the
school opened Grade V and VI classes. Eventually as the school progresses, it turned into an Elementary
School way back in the year 1995 with Teacher In-charge , 5 regular teachers and 2 contractual teachers.
At present, the school has now 4 buildings with 7 classrooms and until now it has been utilized as
classrooms for the teachers and learners of Mabunao Elementary School.
