Event: full vibration monitoring for the compressor, detect high vibration at the compressor
side, affected motor vibrations, we recommend to do the following:

1. Improve the alignment and soft foot (very high soft foot is clear in our spectrum analysis)

2. Check the coupling conditions.

Findings:

1) Mechanical rotating Team, start the job and found one of the compressor foot

bolt is Broken.

2) Other foot bolt is loose, some foot shims missing.

3) Coupling elastic elements broken.

Start up test for the compressor with full load started and shows good behavior of the motor
and the compressor.

Abstract of the analysis and the suspected reason of the Case :


We noted that there is a randomly low frequency, Accurse btw 50 up to 150 HZ as shown below in the spectrum at 4x
running speed which’s an indication of the BPF (Bass Plate Frequency) or here we call lope frequency Normally does not
present a big problem .

BPF can be caused by process parameters, or can be from abrupt bends in piping (inlet & outlet) obstructions which
disturb flow, especially here in this compressor there is a piece of wood under the inlet line, used as support, and then
resonance transmitted in to the compressor, it can be a case of the findings that we found in this compressor, like
increase the vibration levels of the casing, then lose and break bolts, spoil the alignment & soft foot, then ends with
broken coupling.

We noted this piping resonance or process parameters in all compressors in all trains C2 + D2 +E2

Conclusion & Recommendations;

This phenomenon which it seems that not born of the moment, but a small increase effected by Process parameters and
the suction line support ( piece of wood under the line used as support ), can be controlled by adjusting the process
parameters or a case study for the Piping inlet and out let supports .

However this compressor is running in good conditions now and you can keep in service without any fear.

Finally:

A general checks for all Other Propane Toromont Compressor, in all three gas trains should be done:

Check bolts condition replace if needed, retight, check coupling conditions.
