Online Learning

Opportunities and Pitfalls

Teaching Basics
Skype is widely used, but you need something
more sophisticated for larger groups. There is a

community of teachers on WizIQ who were very

inspiring and Edupunk (a part of WizIQ) is useful
to manage groups online and virtual classrooms.

Resources and content creation

- Eduglogster: creating user-friendly, brain-friendly electronic posters.

The importance of personal learning

networks
Working with colleagues on the cutting edge of technology
in education has been huge motivational factor. It's

unimaginable what it would be like to set oneself up on Skype,

post adverts around and then stare at your screen waiting for

students to show up.

Motivating Students Online

Giving comments, chattings, or interact through the

chatbox

Divide classes into groups or pairs using breakout

rooms to build intimacy between classmates,
bonding, creativity that wrapped into fun activities.

Building Rapport
Learning management systems give us space where

we can manage online discussions with our classes,

just like on Facebook and Twitter to entail building

rapport via text, chat, and multimedia using

environments that students love and adding more

substantial projects and materials to the LMS.

Pitfalls to avoid
Social media
If you're a freelance teacher, having your own unique teaching

brand helps alot, but you must be aware not getting sucked

into a social quacmire.

Webtool mania
Webtool are useful, but avoid to playing with too many tools.

Tools should fulfill education objectives on a deep level.

Online schools
There are alot unprofessional 'online schools'. Don't ever

accept substandard pay, even if you still learning.
