1 Scope
This specification, together with the Purchase Order, covers the minimum requirements
for Fire Protection Department (FrPD) Pin Type Uniform Shirt Badges.
2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Fire Protection Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Fire Protection Department of Saudi
Aramco, Dhahran.
2.3 If conflicts and/or deviations arise between this Specification and other Purchase
Order Documents not specifically covered as exceptions by the Purchase Order,
the Buyer and the Fire Protection Department shall be consulted and a ruling
obtained by the manufacturer in writing before work proceeds. The Fire
Protection Department reserves the right to review, test and reject any
Manufacturer's badges and requires that a sample badge of each rank be sent for
evaluation and approval before manufacturing the requested quantities.
3 References
The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the
Latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.
The Badge is a duplicate, in general form, of the WH-153 “Zodiac” badge made by the
Entenmann-Rovin Company, except that the eagle's wings are removed.

4.2 The shield and the helmet rim shall have a rough textured finished.
4.3 For the various badge dimensions refer to the descriptions under the respective
ranks.
5.1 Custom quality 14 gauge genuine “Carltone Gold” (14K-like gold tone) shall be
used for the shield and 16 gauge genuine “Carltone Gold” for the panels and all
other items where “Carltone Gold” is specified. Otherwise, “Platiloy Silver,”
providing an all through platinum-like silver tone, shall be used. For the actual
materials to be used, i.e., “Carltone Gold” (14K-like gold tone) or “Platiloy
Silver” (platinum-like silver tone), refer to the respective rank badge details.
5.3 Enamels shall be high temperature French cloisonne fused at over 1300°F.
5.4 Joints, catches and posts shall be made of solid nickel silver findings welded
with "sterling" solder at over 1000ºF. The findings shall be made from Ballou
joint #37, catch #61 and pin #38.
5.5 All pieces shall be hard struck with sharply engraved details.
6 Workmanship
The omission or apparent omission of any wording or specifications shall mean that
only the highest quality of materials, component parts and labor shall be used. This is a
minimum specification. If superior quality is supplied at the same cost it would be
acceptable. Fire Protection Department shall be notified of any deviations from this
specification.
7 Shipping
Each badge shall be professionally made and individually packed in clear protective
covering.

10 Manager
There shall be a 3/16" wide border of raised laurel leaves, starting ¼ from the
point and continuing up the left and right sides of the shield and ending with
clockwise and anti-clockwise scrolls respectively. An "X" shaped pattern shall
interrupt the laurel leaves halfway along both sides of the shield.
10.3 Base
At the point (bottom) of the heart shaped shield, and within the thickness of the
laurel leaves, there shall be three vertical rectangles, the center rectangle being
slightly wider. On each side of the vertical rectangles, there shall be a multiple
stripe pattern of equal thickness pointing in the same direction as the laurel
leaves.
10.4 Border
There shall be a depressed smooth textured border (1/16" wide) between the

The rough textured surface of the shield shall be superimposed with 28 equally
spaced raised bars with smooth surfaces radiating from the center and

terminating of the depressed border and having alternating lengths. The raised
bars increase in width as they radiate outward.
10.6 Helmet
The New Yorker style helmet shall be centrally placed on top of the shield.
The front of the helmet shall face toward the left, thus displaying the left side
view of the helmet. The helmet rim shall be of a rough texture.

Colors: The helmet crown shall be conflagration gray enamel with coordinating
“Carltone Gold” crown rib stripes and helmet rim. The area between the helmet

trimmed in the coordinating “Carltone Gold” and shall consist of five rib stripes.
10.7 Panels
Colors: The panels shall be 16 gauge genuine “Carltone Gold” with royal blue
enamel letters.

Location: The company logo shall be placed in the center of the shield and shall
overlay the raised radiating bars. Colors: Conflagration blue and green enamel
shall be used. Green color is a mixture of 90% magenta and 100% cyan, while
Blue color is a mixture of 100% blue, 65% yellow and 10% black. The radial
graduation shall be blue on the upper right and green on the lower left corners.
The star shall be placed centrally and shall compose of 10 corners representing
white dots radiating to the sides.
Location: The FrPD insignia shall be placed centrally 1/16" from the base and
shall partially overlay the raised radiating bars.

11 Marshal
