MODULE 2.2.

PLANNING ACTIVITIES FOR A LESSON


ACTIVITY 1.
Read the following learning objectives and main activities in a Vocabulary lesson for
grade 6. (Tiếng Anh 6, Unit 9, A closer look 1).
- Match the activities with each objective.
- Evaluate whether the activities realize the learning objectives.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Recognize adjectives related to cities, food, people, weather and nouns related to
places in cities
2. Use appropriate adjectives nouns of places to talk in short simple sentences about
cities and aspects of cities such as food, people, weather.
3. Identify the sounds /əʊ/ and /aʊ/ in isolation and in sentences.
4. Pronounce /əʊ/ and /aʊ/ correctly in self-articulated sentences.

MAIN ACTIVITIES IN THE LESSON:


1. Warm-up: Pictures of cities. Students guess what city it is in each picture.
2. Presentation of adjectives:

4. Presentation of words/phrases for places: Pictures + Checking: matching pictures
(exercise 3)
5. Game: Pass the ball. T plays the song, ss pass the ball. When T stops the music, the
student holding the ball has to say one word they have just learnt.
6. Presentation of 2 sounds.
7. Exercise 4: Listen and write words
8. Exercise 5: Listen and repeat.
9. Game: Slap the sounds: Two teams. Listen to the word and slap on the sounds on the
board.

Read the learning objectives and the main activities in a grammar lesson for Grade 8 (Tieng
Anh 8, Unit 2- Life in the countryside, P.19-20)
- Match the activities with each objective.
- Evaluate whether the activities realize the learning objectives.

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the different comparative forms of adverbs.
2. Apply the comparative forms of adverbs in order to make comparing sentences.
3. Use the comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs to produce a short talk in 1’30
about the differences between life in the countryside and life in the city.

1. T presents the comparison of regular adverbs
a. Adjective + “-ly” = adverb
- Eg: careful → carefully
→ Structure:
more/less + adverb + (than)
- Eg 1: Adults usually drive more carefully than teenagers
- Eg 2: Hanh acts less responsibly than anyone here.

2. T presents the comparison of irregular adverbs


b. The form of comparative for adverbs of manner with the same form as adjectives
- Eg: fast → faster, hard → harder
→ Structure:
Present Adverb + er + ̣ (than)

c. Some irregular forms of adverbs of manner:


- Eg: well → better, badly → worse, far → farther/ further
- Eg: I walked farther than I thought
I can now speak English better than I used to

3. (T check Ss’ understanding) T give a pair of pictures, a verb and an adverb. Then ask Ss for completing the
sentences using comparative adverbs.
Eg: T shows 2 picture: snow & rain
T give Ss the verb “fall” & the adverb “quietly”
Then T asks Ss for making a sentence comparing 2 pictures, using the given verb and adverb.
Practice

Activity 1 4’ T asks Ss to do exercise 1 in the book.

• Play passing the ball game:

• Divide class into 4 groups, ask each group to produce a short talk about “Using the comparative form of
adjectives and adverbs to compare life in the countryside and life in the city”
