Introductory Message
This Contextualized Learning Module (CLM) is prepared so that you, our
dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities,
questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to
understand each lesson with ease.
This CLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-
step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-test is provided to measure your prior knowledge on the lesson. This will
show you if you need to proceed in completing this module or if you need to ask
your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of this module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your
learning. Answer keys are provided for all activities and tests. We trust that you
will be honest in using them.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher is also
provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they
can best help you in your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any
part of this CLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and
tests. Likewise, read the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any question in using this CLM or any difficulty in answering the
tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.

What Do You Already Know?

Let us determine how much you already know about setting static IP address.
Pretest LO1
I. Multiple Choice
Directions. Read each statement with comprehension and be able to identify each
item if it signifies true and/or false statement.
1. Static IP is constantly changing.
2. Dynamic IP doesn’t change.
3. Static IP addresses are much easier to set up and manage with DNS servers.
4. A static IP address makes it easier to work remotely using a Virtual Private
Network (VPN) or other remote access programs.
5. Static IP addresses make it easier to use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for
teleconferencing or other voice and video communications.

What To Know?

What is this Module About?

This module deals with the static and dynamic IP addresses, the advantages
of static IP address and setting static IP address on Windows 7 and 10.

What Will You Learn?

At the end of this module, you should be able to:
1. differentiate static and dynamic IP addresses;
2. describe the advantages of static IP address; and
3. enumerate steps on setting IP address in a Windows 7 and 10 desktop
computer and/or laptop.

Information Sheet 3

Directions: Read the Information Sheet 3 with comprehension and find out how
much you can remember and how much you learned by doing the tasks given.

Dynamic means “constantly changing.” The

prefix dyna means power; however, dynamic IP
addresses aren’t more powerful, but they can
change (or be changed).

Static means staying the same which means

stable. It doesn’t change.
Advantages of a static IP
There are numerous advantages to using a static IP address. Among these benefits are:
 Better DNS support. Static IP addresses are much easier to set up and manage with
DNS servers.
 Server hosting. If you are hosting a web server, email server, or any other kind of
server, having a static IP address makes it easier for customers to find you via DNS.
Practically speaking that means it's quicker for clients to get to your websites and
services if they have a static IP address.
 Convenient remote access. A static IP address makes it easier to work remotely
using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or other remote access programs.
 More reliable communication. Static IP addresses make it easier to use Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) for teleconferencing or other voice and video
communications.
 More reliable geo-location services. With a static IP address, services can match the
IP address with its physical location. For example, if you use a local weather service
with a static IP address, you're more likely to get the weather report you need
instead of the one for the next city over.

Set Static IP Address on Windows 7

1. Click the Start menu. Next, click on
the Control Panel option.

2. Click on the Network and

Sharing Center option.

3. Click on Change adapter settings from the left side menu.

4. Right-click on the Local Area Connection icon, then select Properties.

5. In the window that opens, click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) (you
may need to scroll down to find it). Next, click on the Properties button.
6. In the window that opens, click the use the following IP address: radio button. In
the IP address:, Subnet mask:, and Default gateway: number fields, insert the
numbers that were assigned to you by OIT.

7. Next, click the Use the following DNS server addresses: radio button. Next, in
the Preferred DNS server:, and Alternate DNS server: number fields, input the
numbers that were assigned by OIT. Then click the OK button.
8. Click OK in the other window.
 You can now start using your new internet connection. If for some reason the
internet connection doesn't start working right away, restart the computer and
try again.

Set Static IP Address on Windows 10 (Settings)

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Click on Network & Internet.
3. On the left, click on Ethernet if you are using a wired connection. Click on WiFi if you
are using a wireless connection.
4. On the right, click the network name associated with your current connection.

5. Scroll down to the IP settings section to review your current IP address and other
parameters. Click on the Edit button to change them.
6. In the next dialog, select Manual from the drop down list.

7. Turn on the toggle switch option for the IP protocol version. Probably, you will start
with IPv4.

8. Fill in the IP address field. Enter the desired static IP address, for
example, 192.168.2.10.
9. In the Subnet prefix length text box, enter the subnet mask length. Do not enter the
subnet mask. So, instead of 255.255.255.0, you need to enter 24.
10. Enter your default gateway address if you use it in the Gateway field.
11. Enter your Preferred DNS and Alternate
DNS values. I will use Google's public DNS servers,
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Repeat the same for IPv6 if required.
Click on the Save button.
