IMBA (Third year)
Reflection note:
During this span of about three months, I learned various new concepts through this course,
this course encouraged me to understand how vital it is to manage talent, With the intensified
challenges of globalisation, the development of information age, the comparative shortage of
talent and the tendency of employees to change firms, where to manage talent has become a
major concern.
This course helped me learn the best practices for selecting, recruiting, and onboarding talent.
Through this course, I learned the key measure performance and how employees are evaluated
along with the effective talent management which is accomplished with the four important
steps which was made simpler to understand through in class activity where we were supposed
to prepare a job profile with proper action plan, that is:

1. Recruitment:
In the first we identified the key leverage kills that is required for the job profile, that was done
through developing a detailed and well written job description which included specific skills
and competencies required.

2. Retention:
Here to retain the employees, we had to make sure that they fit into the corporate culture.
Through the course I learned that an employee can be retained when he/she clearly
understanding the behaviour, motives, processes, working conditions of the company.

3. Development:
This step required us to assess our competency for the job profile, which we did through
analysing our SWOT to find out if there are any competency deficiencies, such gaps which
cause lack in productivity and performance.

4. Performance
This step we aligned roles and responsibilities with the competencies required for the job
profile to ensure best performance with strategy and cross function.
This course also encouraged me to learn about my own competencies and weather or not if I
would fit for the job profile. Which we accomplished through competency mapping.
Competency mapping is the process of identifying the specific skills, knowledge, abilities, and
behaviours required to operate effectively in a specific trade, profession, or job position which
is also referred to as competency profiles or skills profiles.
We build the competence map based on the requirements of the job position, that is HR
manager. Through giving the 16PF test I was able to identify my what kills I am good at and
where I lack in and needs improvements. Through competency mapping this is the score that I
received.
Competencies score
Reasoning 2.6
Emotional stability 2.2
Rule-consciousness 2.8
Openness to change 2.3
Self-reliance 2.6
perfectionism 2

Analysing the scores, I think I do fit for this job position as I possess the organisational skills,
communication skills, I am a confident candidate, and I also acquire the skills for problem
solving and decision making, but I also need improvements in perfectionism, need to create
more realistic goals and expectations, I must challenge my inner critique and dispute negative
thoughts. At last, I lack in emotional stability which can improved through adjusting
perspectives, creating an action plan and check on expectations.
This course helped me understand my weaknesses and what I need to do to overcome them,
through competency mapping I learned how an organisation performs, what processes they go
through before assigning a job and how they make the decisions which benefits the organisation
as well as the employees.
