Tool & Purpose

● Class Dojo is a communication app that connects parents, teachers, and students.
Teachers can monitor classroom management, send pictures, videos and messages to
parents, while also assigning assignments to students.
● Parents can keep up with what is going on inside and outside of the classroom. With the
newly added portfolios students can post pictures, videos, or files of work completed in class or
at home and also receive feedback!
● Our school is a PBIS school, we are constantly looking for ways to increase positivity and build a
community. Class Dojo is the perfect app to implement. Teachers can reward points for students
who are caught following the rules or going above and beyond!

Shared Vision
Paulding County School District developed a
Technology plan in 2019 that includes a mission
and technology goal for schools.
● The technology mission of the Paulding County
School District is to provide the technology
infrastructure for every student and teacher to be
technology literate and utilize technology as a vital
component of the instructional program. It is
imperative that education remain relevant to the
age in which our students and staff live.
● The technology goal is, teachers will integrate
technology daily with an increased focus on
student usage.

● Class Dojo is an app that allows teachers to
implement technology into the classroom
daily. Teachers will use the app on a web
browser and project to students or use on
their phone when not in the classroom.
● Students are completing work inside their
portfolios which helps students become
technology literate.
● In order to meet the Paulding County
School District’s goal, students will post
daily on their portfolio.

● Class Dojo has no age range and could be
adapted to fit the needs of students in
Pre-K through twelfth grade.

Portfolio. Each standard would be different

Why do we need it?

● A positive classroom environment is one of the
most important factors that affect student
learning. In a positive learning environment
students feel safe and comfortable expressing
their ideas.
● With the help of Class Dojo, teachers can help
build a positive classroom environment.
Students are awarded positive points when
caught doing something great in the classroom.
Students take ownership of their learning by
wanting to earn points, which in turn creates an
environment that is positive for learning.
Authentic Learning
● Using the built in portfolio in Class Dojo,
students can publish assignments and post
pictures or videos of work completed in the
classroom.
● Once student work is posted on the
portfolio, teachers and families can leave
encouraging comments or give it a like! By
posting work in the portfolio students will
be sharing their work with a real audience
who cares about their work.

ClassDojo is a school communication platform
that teachers, students, and families use every
day. With the use of Class Dojo, teachers are
building a welcoming community by sharing what
is being learned and photos and videos
throughout the day! Class Dojo truly allows the
parents to feel like they are a part of the
classroom.

Diffusion of Innovations through
Professional Learning
Class Dojo is an easy to use app for teachers
and students. During pre-planning teachers
will travel through different training
sessions receiving professional learning
from teachers who have previously
implemented Class Dojo. The professional
learning classrooms would be based off of;
explanation, setup, and expectations for use
school wide. After professional learning
teachers will be ready to implement into
classroom. During weekly staff meetings,
administration will encourage teachers to
share out any news/updates about Class
Dojo and how it could help the school
community.

and the app is free to

Safe, Healthy, Legal, & Ethical Issues

According to the Class Dojo website, below is a list of

privacy and security promises.
Limitations
● If the teacher is using negative classroom
points, it could have a negative outcome
and affect the psychological impact of
sensitive students.
● Using Class Dojo could limit the amount of
face to face communication with parents.
● Because children receive rewards when they
accumulate points for good behavior,
educators worry that this type of system
provides the wrong motivation for students
(Williams, 2016).

Reflection
After selecting my emerging technology tool, I learned to respect teachers and administrators when looking into
adoption. There are so many aspects that you must be aware of to protect students and teachers. I have been teaching for four
and a half years and Class Dojo is a tool that I have always wanted to implement into my classroom. Our school is a PBIS school
that requires us to use a clip chart in every classroom. I have always felt the clip chart focuses on negative behavior. With our
school being a positive behavior school(PBIS), I felt that Class Dojo would be a tool to help get us there. I felt by evaluating this
emerging technology it gave me the confidence to continue to look for new tools that would benefit the students and help
them succeed.

While researching emerging technologies, I picked Class Dojo because of the newly added portfolios. The portfolios
allow teachers and students to share work online. This would be a great tool to implement with the ‘unprecedented” school
years to come. After completing this activity, it gave me the knowledge that I need to be able to share with others on how to
adopt a program. My goal is to share this out with my team to get them on board with using Class Dojo. This app gives parents a
real time view of what is going on in the classroom and helps parents to gauge where their child is, without stepping foot into
the classroom. This process improved my professional practice by allowing me to reflect on the impact emerging technology
has on students success.
