Introductory Message
Welcome to English Grade 2!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Negros Occidental and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults)
in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to


guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The English Grade 2 Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-
learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with
minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be made
available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The English Grade 2 Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue


learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you with
meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active learner,
carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities and answer
the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

I. Discuss the illustrations on the cover and predict what the story may be

II. Background Information for Learners

Our first lesson in this quarter made you familiar with the parts of the book.
Take a look at this book again. What do you think will be the book about? Which of
the following could predicts what the book will be about?

A. The book is about how the animals


spend their day in the farm.
B. The book is about the animals being
happy over something.
C. The book is about the cow and the goat
fighting.

If your answers are A and B, you


are correct! The book could be about
animals’ life in the farm. They may be
happy over something.
And why not C? Are the cow and
the goat fighting? No? How do you
know? Where did you see it?

Yes, it is in the illustrations on the cover! The illustrations on the cover help
you guess or predict what the story will be about. Cover illustrations suggest a
theme or represent a scene or event from the story. Everytime you hold a book,
you should look closely at every detail in the illustrations. The details will give you
clues that will help you guess or predict what the story is about.
III. Directions / Instructions
To practice predicting what a book is about by looking closely at its cover
illustrations, do the following activities. Be happy while working on these
activities.

A. Directions: Look at the illustrations. Then, choose that which predict what
the book will be about. There are three (3) possible answers. Write them on
your paper.

the moon.
D. The book will present facts
about the moon.

B. Directions: Check the details of the illustrations. Choose the word that will
best complete the prediction on what the book will be about. Write the
completed paragraph as your answer on your paper.

E. Directions: Now it’s time you choose a book with interesting cover
illustration (you may also cut picture of a book cover). Tell what the book is

Paste the picture of your chosen book in a short bondpaper. Under the
picture, write with your paragraph.

listen as you read the questions and your answers.
