Concept: What is a Prediction?
 A prediction is what you think will happen based on what
you’ve discovered in your reading.
 Thinking about what might happen is called making
predictions.
 When you make predictions, you use clues in the story to
help you predict.

Concept: Prediction
Making a prediction is an important skill. Being able to make
predictions shows that you understand/comprehend the
message/meaning. It also helps you to develop your
imagination and thinking skills.

What do we mean by making predictions?


Making predictions- means being able to use information to
guess what is likely to happen later in a situation/event.

Examples: Look at the following pictures below:

What is a Prediction?

A prediction is what you think will happen based on what you’ve


discovered in your reading.

How do I make predictions?


 First, use information that you already know. This is also called
background information or prior knowledge.
 Second, use what the author is telling you.

Examples: Matt’s dog has been outside all day.


When he went to the door to come inside,
he was covered with mud.
“Oh no! What did you do?
Yelled Matt. Matt’s dog jumped up at him.
It’s okay, stay right here” Matt said.
Matt went inside and grabbed a bottle of soap.
Then he went to over to the hose turned it on.
