procedures

 Fabricated structural steel item, shifting, stacking.

 Erection of structural steel.
1.1 Drawing

The structural drawings used for steel work erection shall have erection layout plans
that will be used to guide the steel erection, identification the number of all fabricated
items to ensure that a particular item is installed in the correct grid line, location and
level.

1.2 Tests and Inspection

Inspection of Erection equipments and tools

The following item associated with the erection of steel work shall be calibrated
before use
1. Crane
2. Wire Rope
3. Ladders, lifelines.

1.3 Storage and Handling

The structural Material shall be stacked above ground on timber.

1.4 Erection on Site

The erection of the structural steel shall be studied and planned so that execution can
be carried out in a safe,
Ladder with lifeline will be used for erection of the structural members. Scaffolds will
be installed in specific cases. Scaffold shall be planned and installed in a certain way
that and in a timely manner so as not to block the crane access, encroach on boom
operating clearances, impede the erection pace and post a potential hazard.

1
All erected steel work shall be secured adequately by suitable means such as cable,
ropes and tag lines. For bolted connection, adequate number of bolt shall be install
before releasing the lifting crane.

When lifting and fitting the steel work into position, care shall be taken to prevent the
parts and member firm being strain, twisted, bent or damage in any manner
whatsoever.

After assembly, the structural member forming parts of the structural frame shall be
aligned and adjusted accurately before being tightly fastened. Where necessary
balancing with adjoining frames shall be under taken prior to the tight fastening.

1.5 Support and Foundation

Anchor bolts as built setting plan shall be checked against theoretical/fabricated base
plates dimension to ensure successfully installation of column. If excessive deviation
exists, the affected column base plate holes location shall be modified at the
fabrication shop to suit site condition.
Force bending of the anchor bolts for correction shall in no case be allowed.
Packer, shims and other packing material shall be flat with adequate strength and
rigidity and shall be no less than minimum length required to support the structure
safely. Before final grouting wedges and packing shall be removed, where possible.
Where they must be left in position permanently, they shall be totally enclosed by the
grout.

No grouting shall be carried out until inspected to ensure sufficient portion of the
structure have been aligned, leveled, plumed, adequately braced to other structural
component, which have been leveled, plumed and securely held in their permanent
position and all joints and anchor bolts tightened.

1.6Alignment

Each part of the structure shall be aligned as soon as practicable after its erection,
permanent connection shall not be made between members until sufficient part of the
structure has been aligned, leveled, plumed and temporarily connected in such a
manner that members will not be displaced during the erection and alignment of the
reminder of the structure.

combination of both) depending on access restriction, size of area etc.

Unless otherwise specified, all surface treatment and to steel work shall comply with
the requirements of project specifications.

2. Work Execution Plan for Steelwork Erection

a. Lifting canvas belts / slings with suitable SWL shall be used for unloading the
material to minimize the damage to the painted surface.

b. The material shall be stored above ground level on timber

c. The material shall be stacked in location according to the building/areas. This is to
facilitate the sorting and delivery during erection.

d. Transfer from storage yard to erection location

2.2.1 Hydraulic crane or Hydra crane (of suitable capacity and listed in the equipment
register) shall be used to lift and shift the material to the erection location/site.

2.2.3 The material shall be store above ground level on timber and located near to the
lifting position adjacent to the area to be erected.

2.2.4 Material stacked shall be barricaded.

2.3. Erection

2.3.2 Steel Lifting

 Prior to start any lifting work, the location for the cranes and material lay
down at the erection area shall be identified. Job Safety and Risk analysis
shall be done. Hydra crane and its safety devices and rigging devices shall
have appropriate certificates and suitable capacities for the intended lifting
operation. All crane operators shall be experienced and have valid license
from relevant government authority.
 The crane shall be positioned and out riggers set prior to lifting. Boom
length; boom angle, operating radius and safe lifting capacity shall be
assessed as per crane load chart prior to the lift being made.
