Kinematics
Kinemetics is the description of
motion; it concerns only the
accurate description of the
positions of objects, and the
change in their positions.
GALILEO GALILEI

In the 17th century, Galileo Galilei (1564–1642)

and others discovered that, in a void, all falling
objects have the same constant acceleration, and
so their motion may be determined by using the
Merton rule.
GALILEO GALILEI
The first of the three laws of motion formulated
by Newton (1642-1726) says that every object in
a state of uniform motion remains in that state
unless an external force is applied. This is
essentially a reformulation of Galileo's inertia
concept. This is sometimes considered to be the
start of modern science. Among many other well
known things that Galileo (1564-1642) achieved
as an astronomer, he also described the law of
falling bodies that we know as s = ½at².
Displacement
Displacement is a vector
quantity that refers to "how far
out of place an object is"; it is
the object's overall change in
position.
Distance
Distance is a scalar quantity
that refers to "how much
ground an object has covered"
during its motion.
EXAMPLE 1

Distance: 0
Anne Is Going to School to get her Displacement: 0
module
30 meters

But on the way to School she saw her aunts house which is
30 meters from her house
30 meters

Distance: 30
So She decided to greet her inside Displacement: 30
30 Meters 30 Meters

After greeting her aunt she continue to walk towards the school which is 30 meters from
her aunts house
30 Meters 30 Meters

Distance: 30 + 30 = 60
And she reached the school Displacement: 60
30 Meters 30 Meters

60 Meters

After getting her module she head to her home

which is 60 meters from the school
30 Meters 30 Meters

60 Meters

Distance: 30 + 30 + 60 = 120
and reached home. Displacement: 0

Displacement: ???

= √5² + 4²

5 meters
Displacement: ???

= √5² + 4²
= 6.40312424
Distance: 9m 4 meters

5 meters
Displacement: 6.4m

6.4 meters
= √5² + 4²
= 6.4 or 6.40
Speed
Speed is a scalar quantity that
refers to "how fast an object is
moving".
Speed can be thought of as
the rate at which an object
covers distance.
A fast-moving object has a
high speed and covers a
relatively large distance in a
short amount of time.
Velocity
Velocity is a vector quantity
that refers to "the rate at
which an object changes its
position."

Acceleration
Acceleration is a vector
quantity that is defined as
the rate at which an object
changes its velocity. An
object is accelerating if it is
changing its velocity.
