Critically Analysis, compare and contrast a manager that implements


Theory Y and that adheres to the expectancy theory. How would each
choose to motivate their employees?
The basic concepts of theory Y is where the management assumes the employees are self-
motivated and believes the employees enjoy duties.

Theory Y managers characteristics;

1. People are self-motivated and thrive on responsibility


2. Involves employees in decision making but retains power to implement decisions.

Expectancy Theory is a theory where the individuals will decide to behave or act in certain

way because they are motivated to select a specific behavior due to what they expect the
results of that selected behavior will be.

This shows that both theory Y and expectancy theory adheres to each other. Theory Y

explains which the employees are self-motivated while expectancy theory is where the
employees decide to behave in the certain way. This clearly shows where both theories have
relationships. The workers will act in certain way if they wanted to as the result it is depend
on either theory Y or theory X. The dependency of the worker relies on the worker’s effort
itself.

Theory Y worker are mostly influenced by something desirable outcome. They will do good
work because they see some type of reward occurring as a direct outcome of their actions
which how it will motivate the employees.

colleagues who are different from themselves?
Managers can initiate diversity programs that include a self-evaluation in phase. People are
pressed to examine themselves and to confront ethnic and cultural stereotypes they might
hold. Additional activities designed to change attitudes include arranging for people to do
volunteer work in community or social service centers in order to meeto face to face with
individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and using exercises that let partivipants feel
what it is like to be different.
