ARITHMETIC & GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE (WORD PROBLEMS)
OBJECTIVE:
• solves real-life problems involving
sequences.
ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE (WORD PROBLEMS)
Hb. The Population of GFIS is predicted to increase by 25% each year. What
will be its population 5 years from now if its current population is 500?
Given: 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 𝑟 𝑛−1
𝑎1 = 500
r = 125% or 1.25 𝑎5 = (500)(1.25)5−1
n=5 𝑎5 = (500)(1.25)4
𝑎5 = ?
𝑎5 = (500)(2.44)
𝑎5 = 1,220
∴ 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑜𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐺𝐹𝐼𝑆 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 5 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑖𝑠 1,220
ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE (WORD PROBLEMS)
Given: 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 𝑟 (𝑛+1)−1
𝑎1 = 1,000
r = 200% or 2 𝑎6 = (₱ 1,000)(2)(6+1)−1
n=6 6
𝑎6 = ?
𝑎6 = (₱ 1,000)(2)
𝑎6 = (₱ 1,000)(64)
𝑎6 = ₱ 64,000
∴ 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑦 ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑡𝑠 𝑠𝑖𝑥𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑖𝑠 ₱ 64,000
ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE (WORD PROBLEMS)
Hb. You land a job as a police officer. Your salary for the first year is ₱ 43,
125. You will receive 7% increase every year. How much will your salary be at
the start of year six.
Given: 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 𝑟 𝑛−1
𝑎1 = ₱ 43, 125
r = 107% or 1.07 𝑎6 = (₱ 43, 125)(1.07)6−1
n=6 𝑎6 = (₱ 43, 125)(1.07)5
𝑎6 = ?
𝑎6 = (₱ 43, 125)(1.4)
𝑎6 = ₱ 60, 375
∴ 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑖𝑥𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑖𝑠 ₱ 60, 375
