PRELIM EXAM
A. INSTRUCTIONS:
This is an individual assignment.
1. Submit the report in Identifying a potential site for a 10 MW Grid-Connected
Solar Photovoltaic Project.

2. Collect the necessary solar radiation and other important data in the conduct
of solar energy resource assessment of your selected site.
Submit your report in PDF format and your Site Data in MS Excel Worksheet/s.

B. TASKS:
1. Estimate the land area requirements for your PV project. Take note of the
following:
a. Space for PV Arrays and additional spacing to protect the array from
unwanted
b. Space for BOS equipment.
c. Space for Building/s.
d. Space for site development.
Estimated total land area: 100 Acres
2. Select your own project site.
3. Discuss the merits of your selected site.
4. Get the hourly solar radiation data from NASA. Ideally, cover the historical
data for period 2001-2020.
5. Calculate Max, Ave, Min. monthly values of parameters. Place the resulting
the data series in the separate worksheet and provide a time-series graph of
the data.
6. Calculate Max, Ave, Min. annual values of the parameters. Place the resulting
data series in the separate worksheet and provide a time-series graph of the
data.
NOTE: This is part of the overall activity for the design. Later, your Team
will decide on the best site for your Team Design Project. Your selected site
will serve as a candidate.

The estimated land area considers great spacing of the PV Arrays in the Power Plant.
Also, a 25-acre extra land will be for the site development if the Power plant would
want to produce more energy because Nueva Ecija generally has flat terrain especially
in the proposed area.

2. Project Site Location: Las

Pinas, Nueva Ecija
Longitude: 120.989374
degrees
Latitude: 15.379769 degrees
3. Features of the Selected Site
• Site is near the road
• Open space with few trees
• Generally flat terrain.
• Access to MV distribution line and utilities (water, etc.)
• Not prone to earthquakes
• Not close to sea shorelines (reduced salinity problem, least probability of tsunami)
• Nueva Ecija has a lot of open space and is generally flat terrain making it very
great for an expansion from a small scale 10MW PV Power Plant into a Solar
Farm.

4. The hourly solar radiation data from NASA: Look for the attached Excel file, Solar
Radiation Data from Nasa (Sheet: Hourly Solar Radiation)
