· Bulletin WS16Q010 – Fuel injection
valve testing and maintenance
Introduction
The maintenance schedule for W34DF
engines has been revised and the 4 000-
hour interval for inspecting and maintaining
the injection valves has been omitted.
The decision to remove the 4 000-hour
interval is based on field experience. The
components last long enough to be
overhauled only at the nozzle replacement
intervals.
Validity
Until further notice.
Before taking any action, always check the
available online systems for the latest
revision of this document. Any locally stored
or printed version is considered to be an
uncontrolled document.
* At your convenience: Action is necessary or recommended, but can be taken at your convenience, for example
during maintenance.
Introduction
Previously, a general overhaul of the fuel injection valves was taken every 4 000
operating hour. Field experience has shown that the components last long enough for
the maintenance to be taken when the injection nozzle is replaced (at 6 000 operating
hours or 8 000 operating hours depending on fuel used).
By this change, the engine down-time and the spare part cost are decreased.
NOTE:
The nozzle replacement interval(s) and the interval for replacing the entire injection valve
are not changed.
Recommendation
· Distribute this information to maintenance teams concerned.
· Update the maintenance schedule by removing the 4 000-hour maintenance
action from the maintenance management system and/or in any printed
documents as needed.
An updated issue of chapter 04 – Maintenance schedule for the engine instruction
manual will be available in Wärtsilä Online for the engines concerned.
Instructions
When the nozzle is replaced, perform maintenance of the fuel injection valves as
described in the engine instruction manual and:
· Replace the O-rings (Figure 1)
· Test and adjust the injection valve as described in the bulletins WS16Q010 –
Fuel injection valve testing and maintenance and WS16Q238 – Injection valve
test rig instructions for DF injectors.
