DEAR EMPLOYER,

Please accept this resume and cover letter in consideration for a job opportunity at your
organization. As a student in the Child and Youth Program at George Brown College, I
understand the importance of promoting resilience in our young people. Your organization has
met the strength-based and anti-oppressive approach that aligns with the Child and Youth Care
values. The understanding is to lead children and youth into a pathway that supports this
individualism and future goals in hopes they become contributing members of society.

My journey of working with youth started at a young age by providing parents tours of a school
facility that supported children and youth with individual education plans. My role was to build
mentorship connections with youth and encourage student success through their high school
journey. I advanced into working in the school system as a placement student. As a placement
student, I conducted assessments, tutoring sessions and re-taught lesson concepts to best support
students’ success. Working with kids with incarcerated parents expanded my skill set and
worked alongside families to support holistically. Having the title of a coordinator meant having
a team that relied on me for guidance and support through their interactions with youth affected
by the justice system. I had an opportunity to meet and build rapport with youth from six to
seventeen and remain supportive in their lives. Lastly, George Brown College has equipped me
with essential training and certifications, including Supporting Youth Experiencing Exploitation
and Understanding and Managing Stress (UMAB).

Currently, I am an Elementary Virtual Support placement student providing parents and

caregivers a space for their children to connect on an online platform. The platform is a space for
facilitators to implement therapeutic activities to disassociate from traditional school. Our
ultimate goal is for youth to have fun and build on their peer connections.

I am undoubtedly confident with my past experiences and training from George Brown College;
I can become an asset to your organization. I would very much like to discuss opportunities and
suitability.

Sincerely, Aliya Kassam
