Abstract

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health issue and has had a major impact on
education. The infection control and physical distancing measures are crucial to prevent the virus from
further spreading and to help control the pandemic situation. The policy of compulsory physical
distancing has been implemented in many countries including in Philippines, resulting in nationwide
school and university closures. Consequently, through the first semester of the academic year 2020/2021,
learning methods were delivered through online education (OD). We aimed to determine the nursing
student’s preference about video conferencing platforms for online education in the University of the
Cordilleras among third year nursing students in order to continue to deliver education and to sustain the
continuation of student academic progress and consider the use of the preferred online delivery platforms
suited for the learning styles and circumstances of the third year nursing students.

Methods

A mixed-method using concurrent design consists of: (1) an online survey questionnaire of 115
third year nursing students about the video conferencing platforms they are using, (2) Semi-structured
interview of 10 third year nursing students regarding factors that affect their preference on the video
conferencing platform/s they are using. Cronbach’s alpha will be used to determine the reliability of the
survey questionnaire. A Validation Form will be utilize to test the validity of the survey questionnaire and
will be disseminated to three experts. Transferability testing will also be conducted to relate the findings
of this study to other contexts with similar situations, populations and phenomena. Ranking of data will
be conducted for the 1st problem. Descriptive statistics specifically obtaining the weighted mean for the
2nd problem and inferential statistics specifically Chi-Square for the 3rd problem. Whereas coding and
thematic analysis will be done for the 4th problem.
