PAINTING

Is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a solid surface ( called the

“matrix” or “support”). In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of the action (the

final work is called “painting”)

Borlongan describes his style as figurative expressionism. [4] Art curator Ditas Samson expounds on

this, describing a typical Borlongan canvas as "dominated by the human figure - often disorted in

shape, in unreal hues.

 It is based on abstract expressionism.

 It has a heritage of artistic vanguards and seeks different forms of expression.
 It has bases coming from abstract art.
 Its works are original, artistic and leave the mark of the author who makes them.

Graffiti artist Dex Fernandez is based in Caloocan, the Philippines. He is known for his iconic

creation Garapata, and his psychedelic compositions that draw from street art, graphic design, and

surrealist painting. Fernandez employs a range of techniques, from collage to freehand drawing and

photography, to create layered portraits and expansive murals that challenge the notions of high and

low art.

SCULPTURE
Contemporary sculpture can now be seen almost anywhere, even in homes. They are known to add

elegance and high value to any space. One popular material often used by contemporary sculpture artists is

marble. Marble statues are extremely beautiful due to their beautiful polish and fine sheen.

Castrillo’s main medium was metal, especially brass, bronze and steel, from which he created

sculptures by hammering, cutting and welding, with the help of a group of assistants. He also

incorporated other materials into his works, including wood, plastic, plexiglass, ivory and even neon

lights. His oeuvre included free-standing abstract pieces, functional art pieces, art jewelry, body

sculptures and liturgical art.

The Redemption" (1974) is a major work of art by Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo found at the

Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina. It is composed of 13 cut and welded brass figures with

approximately 27-meter sculptured concrete base in an 800 square meter area space. In 1977, a

replica of this work was made which can now be seen at the Metrobank Plaza in Makati.

Carcar Rotunda, a roundabout built in the 1920s that serves as a crossroads for those heading

farther south or to Barili and the southwest coast. The bandstand in the middle and the surrounding

statues were sculpted by Dr. Ramon Abellana (1911-2001), a local sculptor and composer, based

on sketches by his brother, renowned painter Martino Abellana (1914-1988). A sculpture of two

women stands at the top of the bandstand symbolizes America showing the Philippines the way to

prosperity.

ARCHITECTURE

The art and science of designing buildings and nonbuilding structures. It is also the style of design

and method of construction pf buildings and other physical structures.

The National Arts Center is a building complex situated in Mount Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna,

the Philippines. The CCP provides performance and exhibition venues for various local and

international productions at the 62-hectare (150-acre) Cultural Center of the Philippines

Complex located in the cities of Pasay and Manila. Its artistic programs include the production of

performances, festivals, exhibitions, cultural research, outreach, preservation, and publication of

materials on Philippine art and culture.

The Philippine Arena is the world's largest indoor arena.[8] It is a multipurpose indoor arena with a

maximum seating capacity of 55,000 at Ciudad de Victoria, a 140-hectare tourism enterprise zone

in Bocaue and Santa Maria, Bulacan, Philippines[9] about 30 kilometers north of Manila. It is one of

the centerpieces of the many centennial projects[10] of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) for their centennial

celebration on July 27, 2014.[11] The legal owner of the arena is the INC's educational

institution, New Era University.[12]

MUSIC

Is the art concerrned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional

expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhthym, melody, and , in most Western music,

harmony.

Molina is credited with introducing such innovations as the whole tone scale, pentatonic scale,

exuberance of dominant ninths and eleventh cords, and linear counterpoints. Molina’s most familiar

composition is Hatinggabi, a serenade for solo violin and piano accompaniment.

Kumukutikutitap, written and popularized by Ryan Cayabyab, is interpreted as a candy store that is all

aglitter and festive with colourful displays of confectionary and a Christmas tree. His works range from

commissioned full-length ballets, theater musicals, choral pieces, a Mass set to unaccompanied

chorus, and orchestral pieces, to commercial recordings of popular music.

LITERATURE
Refers to the writing; comsidered to be an art form or any single writing deemed to have artistic or

intellectual value, and sometimes deploys language in ways that differ from ordinary usage.

Nick Joaquin was the greatest Filipino writer of his generation. Over six decades and a half, he

produced a body of work unmatched in richness and range by any of his contemporaries. Living a

life wholly devoted to the craft of conjuring a world through words, he was the writer’s writer. In the

passion with which he embraced his country’s manifold being, he was his people’s writer as well.

Nick Joaquín lived through eight decades of Philippine history and witnessed the slow, uneven, and

often violent transformation of the nation—the American idyll of the prewar years, the violence and

degradation of an enemy occupation, the Communist insurgency and the hard choices it confronted

the Filipino with, the dark years of martial rule, the waxing and waning of hopes for a better nation. It

is history that tempts many with despair. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Nick Joaquín,

the writer, was that his was always the voice of a deep, inclusive, and compassionate optimism in

the Filipino.   A collection of the National Artist's short stories and poetry and includes the play "The

Portrait of the Artist as a Filipino."

The Flaming Lyre uses a lot of simple words but are quite significant in meaning. Flaming is used a

number of times in the poem, rightly so, because it is something that one would not want to touch as

it is intense and burning. But God gave it and, notwithstanding his doubts, he had to trust and have

faith in God. He uses the word “golden” to denote the best care you can give and “heartbeats” to

mean your feelings. Perhaps, the word “Pluck” would be the uncommon word and my father saw

that it would emphasize the urgency of what God wanted him to do. There also is the use of

“question marks” and “exclamation points” to make sure one reads the poem the way he meant it.

FILM
A motion picture made primarily for aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit, often of an

experimental nature or having an unconventional or highly symbolic content, aimed typically at a

limited audience.

Season of the Devil (Filipino: Ang Panahon ng Halimaw) is a 2018 Filipino musical film directed

by Lav Diaz. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section at

the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. The film has a running time of 234 minutes. A young and

fearless doctor opens a clinic for a poor community in a remote village of the Phillipines. However,

she disappears without a trace. Her husband, a poet and teacher seeks the truth of her vanishing.

Muro-Ami (Reef Hunters) is a Filipino film. It depicts one of the worst forms of child labor in the illegal

fishing system. The film follows the story of Fredo, a ruthless captain of 150 muro-ami divers, who

employ illegal fishing practices, such as pounding and crushing corals to scare fish, driving them

towards the nets. With a high quota to meet, Fredo forces the divers, who consist mostly of children,

to accomplish at least eight dives a day to meet their goal before the millennium. Tired and harassed

after the burdensome task being given to them, the children have to make do in subhuman conditions

in the Muro Ami boat, The Aurora. They sleep in rat-infested bunks and are fed only twice a day. Life

above the water in the boat is much worse than the suffering the children encounter beneath the sea.

For every dive, a child's life is perilously in danger.

PERFORMING ARTS

Refers to forms of art in which artists use their voices, bodies or inanimate objects to convey artistic

expression. It is different from visual arts, which is when artists use paint, canvas, or various materials

to create physical or sttic art objects.

The Philippine Education Theater Association (Peta) have seen and maybe even gone through the

struggles of every thinking Filipino these past years and have thus staged the play, "Si Juan Tamad,

Ang Diablo at Ang Limang Milyong Boto," to enjoin the youth to help make that difference as we all

exercise our right of suffrage.  Performance Art is the body, considered the primary MEDIUM and

conceptual material on which Performance Art is based. Other key components are time, space and

the relationship between performer and audience.

Aurelio Tolentino (October 13, 1867-July 3, 1915), a Pampango playwright, poet, essayist, educator,

novelist and public servant was arrested because of his play, Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas (Larawan

ng Inang Bayan).

Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas: a play of struggle vs. imperialist powers

It is an anti-imperialist play attacking the new colonizers (at that time), the Americans, while not

forgiving the old ones – Mother Spain and Old China, who want to feast on the Philippines’ wealth.
