Duas on Sighting the New Moon of

the Month of Ramadhan
When your eyes fall on the new moon,

you must not point to it; rather you
should turn yourself towards the kiblah,
raise both your hands towards the sky,
and address the new moon with the
following words:

َ َ‫ب ٱل َْعال‬
‫م‬ ‫ك ه‬
ُّ ‫ٱَّللُ َر‬ َ ُّ‫َريِّب َوَرب‬
Your and my Lord is Allah; the Lord of
the worlds.
‫اَلله ُه هم أَ يهلههُ َعلَْي نَا بي ْٱلَ ْم ين وٱ ْيلي م ي‬
‫ان‬ َ َ
O Allah, (please do) cause this crescent

to carry with it for us security, faith,

safety, Islam,

and expedition to whatever You love
and please.
‫اَلله ُه هم ََب ير ْك لَنَا يِف َش ْه يرََن ٰه َذا‬

O Allah, (please do) bless us in this
month,
ُ‫ْيهُ َو َع ْونَه‬
َ ْ ‫َو ْٱرُزقْ نَا َخ‬
confer upon us with its goodness and
aid,
‫ض هرهُ َو َش هرهُ َوبَالَ َءهُ َويف ْت نَ تَ ُه‬ ْ ‫ٱص ير‬

ُ ‫ف َعنها‬ ْ ‫َو‬

and save us from its harm, evil, ordeals, and

sedition.

Your and my Lord is Allah; the Lord of

and expedition to whatever You love

O Allah, (please do) bless us in this
month,
ُ‫ْيهُ َو َع ْونَه‬
َ ْ ‫َو ْٱرُزقْ نَا َخ‬
confer upon us with its goodness and

It has been narrated that when the Holy

Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬would see the new
moon of the Month of Ramadhan, he
would turn his face to the kiblah
direction and say the following:

safety, Islam,
‫َوٱل َْعافييَ ية ٱل ُْم َجليِلَ ية َويدفَ ياع ْٱلَ ْس َق يام‬

encompassing wellbeing, repulsion of
ailments,

‫ٱلصيَ يام َوٱل يْقيَ يام‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ى‬ ‫ي‬
ٰ َ ‫َوٱل َْع ْو‬

and assistance to offer prayers, observe
fasting, do acts of worship,
‫وتيالَوية ٱلْ ُقر ي‬

and recite the Qur'an.
‫ضا َن‬ ‫م‬‫ر‬ ‫ي‬

‫ر‬ ‫ه‬‫ش‬‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬ ‫م‬ِ‫ي‬
َ ََ ْ َ َ ْ ‫اَلله ُه هم َسل‬
O Allah, (please do) keep us sound for
the month of Ramadhan,
‫َوتَ َسله ْمهُ يمنها‬

accept our deeds during it,
‫َو َسليِ ْمنَا يف ييه‬

and save us during it,

not elapse
‫ت لَنَا َوَريِحْتَ نَا‬

َ ‫ت َعنها َوغَ َف ْر‬
َ ‫َوقَ ْد َع َف ْو‬
unless You have pardoned us, forgiven
us, and had mercy upon us.

Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬is also

reported to have said: When you see the
new moon of the Month of Ramadhan,
you may say the following:

O Allah, the month of Ramadhan has
commenced,

‫ض‬ ‫َت‬ْ‫ف‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬
You have made obligatory upon us to
observe fasting during it,
‫ْت في ييه ٱلْ ُق ْرآ َن‬

َ ‫َوأَنْ َزل‬
and revealed the Qur'an in it

‫ات يمن ٱ ْْلَُد ٰى وٱلْ ُفرقَ ي‬

‫ان‬ ٍ َ‫هاس وب ين‬
‫ي‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ل‬‫ه َدى لي‬
ْ َ َ َِ َ ً ُ
as guidance for people and clear proofs
of true guidance and distinction
(between the right and the wrong).
‫صيَ يام يه‬

‫اَلله ُه هم أَ يعنها َعلَ ٰى ي‬
O Allah, (please) help us observe
fasting in it,
‫َوتَ َقبه ْلهُ يمنها‬

accept it from us,

keep us safe during it,
‫َو َسليِ ْمنَا يم ْن ُه‬

help us observe it adequately,

and keep it sound for us with easiness
and good health from You.
‫ك َعلَ ٰى ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء قَ يدير‬ ‫ه‬

‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
You verily have power over all things.
‫يم‬‫ح‬‫َي ر ِْحٰن َي ري‬

O All-beneficent! O All-merciful!

Dua 43 – Sahifa Sajjadiyah – Upon

Sighting the New Moon of Month of
Ramdhan
It is recommended, at the sight of the

new moon of Ramadhan, to say the
supplication number forty-three of the al-
Sahifah al-Kamilah al-Sajjadiyyah.
Sayyid Ibn Tawus narrated that Imam
Àli ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin ‫عليه‬
‫السالم‬, once, gazed at the new moon of
Ramadhan while he was walking. He

therefore stopped and said the following:

ْ ‫أَيُّ َها‬
ُ ُ

O obedient creature,
‫يع‬‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫س‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ب‬‫ي‬ ‫ه‬
ُ ‫ه‬ ُ ‫ٱل‬
‫ائ‬ ‫د‬
speedy and untiring,
‫َتيِد ُد يِف َمنَا يزيل ٱلته ْق يدي ير‬

ََ ‫ٱل ُْم‬
frequenter of the mansions of
determination,
‫ف يِف فَ لَ ي‬
‫ك ٱلته ْدبي يْي‬ ُ ‫ص ِير‬
َ َ‫ٱل ُْمت‬
moving about in the sphere of
governance!
‫ك ٱلظُّلَ َم‬‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ‫ت‬
‫ب‬ ‫ر‬‫و‬‫ه‬ ‫ن‬
َ ‫ن‬َ ‫ي‬
‫ِب‬ ُ ‫آم ْن‬
َ
I have faith in Him Who lights up
darkness through you,
‫ك ٱلْبُ َه َم‬ ‫ي‬ َ ‫َوأَ ْو‬

َ ‫ض َح ب‬

illuminates jet-black shadows by you,

‫ك آيةً يمن آَي ي‬
‫ت ُم ْل يك يه‬ َ ْ َ َ َ‫َو َج َعل‬
appointed you one of the signs of His
kingdom
‫و َعالَمةً يمن َعالَم ي‬
‫ات ُس ْلطَانييه‬ َ ْ َ َ
and one of the marks of His authority,
َ ‫فَ َح هد بي‬
‫ك ٱل هزَما َن‬
so, He identified time through You,
‫ال وٱلنُّ ْقص ي‬
‫ان‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ‫كب‬ ‫م‬ ‫ك‬
َ ْ
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ َ َ‫َو ْٱمتَ َهن‬
and humbled you through increase and
decrease,
‫وع و ْٱلُفُ ي‬
‫ول‬ ُّ
َ ‫َوٱلط‬
‫ي‬ ُ‫ل‬
and rising and setting,

‫ٱل ََنرية وٱلْ ُكس ي‬

‫وف‬ ‫ي‬
ُ َ َ ْ ‫َو‬
and illumination and eclipse.
‫ت لَهُ ُم يطيع‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬

َ ْ َ ‫يِف ُك يِل ٰذل‬
In all of this you are obedient to Him,
‫ادتييه َس يريع‬‫ر‬‫ي‬
َ َ ‫َوإ‬
‫إ‬ ‫َل‬
ٰ َ ‫ي‬
and prompt toward His will.
‫ب َما َدبه َر يم ْن أَ ْم ير َك‬

َ ‫ُس ْب َحانَهُ َما أَ ْع َج‬
Glory be to Him! How wonderful is
what He has arranged in Your
situation!
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫صنَ َع يِف َشأْن‬ َ َ‫َوأَلْط‬
َ ‫ف َما‬
How subtle what He has made for Your
task!

ٍ ‫اد‬ ٍ ‫ك يم ْفتَاح َش ْه ٍر ح ي‬
‫اد‬ َ َ‫َج َعل‬
َ ْ َ َ
He has made You the key to a new
month for a new situation.
َ ‫ٱَّللَ َريِّب َوَربه‬

‫ك‬ ‫فَأَ ْسأَ ُل ه‬
So I ask Allah, my Lord and Your Lord,
‫ك‬ ‫ق‬‫ي‬‫ال‬‫خ‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫ق‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ ‫َو َخال‬
my Creator and Your Creator,
‫َوُم َق ِيد يري َوُم َق ِيد َر َك‬

my Determiner and Your Determiner,
َ ‫ص ِيويري َوُم‬
‫ص ِيوَر َك‬ َ ‫َوُم‬
my Form-giver and Your Form-giver,
‫صليِي َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد و ي‬
‫آل ُُمَ هم ٍد‬ َ ‫ي‬
ُ ‫ن‬
ْ َ
‫أ‬
َ َ

that He bless Muhammad and his

Household
‫ك يهالَ َل بَ َرَك ٍة َل َتَْ َح ُق َها ْٱلَ هَي ُم‬

َ َ‫َوأَ ْن ََْي َعل‬
and appoint You a crescent of blessings
not effaced by days
‫س َها ْٱل ََث ُم‬ ‫وطَ َهارٍة َل تُ َدنِي‬

ُ َ َ
and of purity not defiled by sins;
‫يهالَ َل أَ ْم ٍن يمن ْٱلفَ ي‬
‫ات‬ َ
a crescent of security from blights
‫سيئَ ي‬
‫ات‬ ‫ي‬ ٍ
ِ ‫َو َسالَ َم َ ه‬
‫ٱل‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ة‬
and of safety from evil deeds;
‫س يف ييه‬ ‫َن‬
َ ‫ل‬ ٍ
‫د‬ ‫ع‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل‬
َ ‫ال‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬
َ ْ َ َْ َ
a crescent of auspiciousness containing

no misfortune,
ُ‫َوُيُْ ٍن َل نَ َك َد َم َعه‬
of prosperity accompanied by no
adversity,
‫َويُ ْس ٍر َل ُُيَا يز ُجهُ عُ ْسر‬

of ease not mixed with difficulty,
‫شوبُهُ َش ٍِر‬ ٍْ ‫َو‬

ُ َ‫خْي َل ي‬
of good unstained by evil;
ٍ ‫الل أَ ْم ٍن وإيي م‬
‫ان‬ َ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬
َ َ
a crescent of security and faith,
ٍ ‫وني ْعم ٍة وإي ْحس‬
‫ان‬ َ َ َ َ
favor and good-doing,

‫َو َس َال َم ٍة َوإي ْس َالٍم‬

safety and submission!
‫آل ُُمَ هم ٍد‬

‫ص يل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد و ي‬
َ ِ َ ‫م‬

ُ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬
O Allah, bless Muhammad and his
Household,
‫ض ٰى َم ْن طَلَ َع َعلَْي يه‬ ‫ر‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬

َ ْ ْ ‫ٱج َع ْلنَا‬
‫م‬ ْ ‫َو‬
place us among the most satisfied of
those over whom the crescent has
risen,
‫َوأَ ْزَك ٰى َم ْن نَظََر إيلَْي يه‬

the purest of those who have looked
upon it,
‫ك في ييه‬
َ َ‫َوأَ ْس َع َد َم ْن تَ َعبه َد ل‬

the most fortunate of those who have

worshiped You under it;
‫اع ية َوٱلت ْهوبَية‬‫ه‬‫ط‬ ‫ل‬‫ي‬

‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫يه‬‫ي‬
‫ف‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫ه‬ ُ َ ‫َوَوف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬ ‫ق‬
ْ ِ
give us the success during [the new
month] to repent,
‫ص ْمنَا في ييه يم َن ْٱل ََثيم َوٱ ْْلَْوبَية‬

‫وٱ ْع ي‬
َ
preserve us within it from misdeeds
and exposition to punishment,
‫َوأَ ْويز ْعنَا في ييه ُش ْك َر ٱلنيِ ْع َم ية‬

allot to us within it thanksgiving for
Your favor,
‫َوأَلْبي ْسنَا في ييه ُجنَ َن ٱلْ َعافييَ ية‬

clothe us during it in the shields of
well-being,

َ َ ‫اع‬‫ط‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ال‬‫م‬ ْ ‫ي‬

َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ ‫َوأَ َْت‬
‫ك‬
and complete for us Your kindness by
perfecting therein obedience to You!
‫ت ٱل َْمنها ُن ٱ ْْلَ يمي ُد‬‫ن‬

ْ َ
َ َ ‫إ‬
‫أ‬ ‫ك‬‫ه‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
Surely You are All-kind, Praiseworthy.
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬‫ه‬‫ط‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ٱَّلل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد وآلي ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ى‬
ٰ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ص‬ ‫و‬
َ ِ َ ُ َ َ
And bless Muhammad and his
Household, the good, the pure.
‫ك َعلَ ٰى َما نَ َدبْ تَ نَا إيلَْي يه‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬

‫م‬ ‫َن‬‫و‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬
‫يه‬‫ي‬
َ ْ ً ْ َ ‫ٱج َع ْل لَنَا ف‬
ْ ‫َو‬
And grant us aid from You to carry out
that which You have ordered us to do in
it;
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫اع‬‫ط‬ ‫ي‬
‫ض‬ ‫َت‬ ‫ف‬
َ َ َ ََ ْ ُ ْ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬

Such as the obedience to You which

You have made incumbent upon us,
‫ك ْٱلَ ْك َرُم يم ْن ُك يِل َك ير ٍي‬

َ ‫َوتَ َقبه ْل َها إينه‬
and accept them from us, for You are
the most Generous of all those who
show generosity
‫َو ْٱلَ ْر َح ُم يم ْن ُك يِل َريح ٍيم‬

and the most Merciful of all those who
show mercy.
‫ي‬‫م‬‫ي‬ ‫ل‬
َ ‫ا‬‫ْع‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ب‬‫ر‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫آم‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

Respond! Respond! O Lord of the
Worlds.

General Acts for the 1st Night of the

Month of Ramadhan
• It is recommended to take a Ghusl

tonight.
• It is recommended to bathe oneself in
a flowing river and to pour on the
head thirty handfuls of water so as to
be mentally pure up to the next Month
of Ramadhan.
• It is recommended to visit the holy
tomb of Imam al-Husayn ‫ عليه السالم‬so
that the sins will be forgiven and the
like of the reward of those who
undertake the Hajj and the Ùmrah in
that year will be recorded for him.
Recite Ziyarah.

• Recite a two Rakàh prayer reciting in

each Rakàh Surah of al-Fatihah and
Surah of al-Anàm (No. 6) and pray
to Almighty Allah for security against
ailments.

Dua after Maghrib Prayer for the

First Night of Month of Ramadhan
It is recommended to say the following

supplication while raising the hands after
the Maghrib Prayer. The supplication has
been reported in ‘al-Iqbal’ from Imam
Muhammad Jawad (al-Taqi) ‫عليه السالم‬

O Allah Who controls the management
of all affairs
‫َو ُه َو َعلَ ٰى ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء قَ يدير‬

and He has power over all things!

‫ي‬
O He Who knows the stealth of looks,
‫ْي‬ ‫ضي‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ن‬
ُّ ‫ور َوُي‬
‫ُت‬ ‫د‬
ُ ‫ٱلص‬
ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ف‬ ‫ُت‬
ْ ُ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫و‬
ُ ُ َ َ
that which breasts conceal, and that
which selves hide
‫ْي‬‫ٱْلَبي‬
ْ ‫يف‬
ُ ‫ي‬
‫ط‬ ‫َو ُه َو ٱلله‬
ُ
and He is the Knower of subtle, the
Aware!
‫ٱج َع ْلنَا يِمه ْن نَ َو ٰى فَ َع يم َل‬ ‫م‬

‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
ْ ُ ‫اَلل‬
O Allah, (please do) include us with
those who intend and carried out their
intentions,
‫َولَ َُتْ َع ْلنَا يِمه ْن َش يق َي فَ َك يس َل‬

and do not include us with those who

are unhappy due to their laziness
‫ولَ يِمهن هو َعلَ ٰى غَ ْيْي َعم ٍل ي ت ي‬
‫هك ُل‬ َ َ َُ ْ َ
or with those who depend upon unreal
hopes.
‫ص يِح ْح أَبْ َدانَنَا يم َن ٱل يْعلَ يل‬ ‫م‬

‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
َ ُ ‫اَلل‬
O Allah, (please do) cure our bodies
from ailments
‫ت َعلَْي نَا يم َن ٱل َْع َم يل‬

َ ْ ََ َ ٰ َ َ‫َوأ‬
‫ض‬ ‫َت‬ْ‫ف‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬‫ع‬ ‫ها‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫ع‬
and help us carry out the deeds You
have made incumbent upon us to do
‫ض َي َعنها َش ْه ُر َك ٰه َذا َوقَ ْد أَدهيْ نَا‬‫َّت ي ْن َق ي‬

َ ٰ ‫َح ه‬
‫ك يف ييه َعلَْي نَا‬َ‫ض‬
َ ‫َم ْف ُرو‬

so that when this month, which is Your

month, elapses, we shall have carried
out all the duties that You have made
obligatory upon us to do.

O Allah, (please do) help us observe
fasting in this month,
‫َوَوفيِ ْقنَا لييقيَ يام يه‬

guide us to practice the acts of worship
(perfectly),
‫ص ي‬
‫الة‬ ‫شطْنَا في ييه ليل ه‬
‫ونَ ِي‬
َ
grant us vigor to offer prayers,
‫اء ية‬‫ر‬ ‫ولَ َُتْجب نَا يمن ٱل ي‬

‫ْق‬
َ َ َ ُْ َ
do not preclude us from reciting (the

‫اء ٱل هزَك ياة‬

ََ‫يت‬‫ي‬‫إ‬ ‫ي‬
‫يه‬‫ف‬‫ي‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ِ ‫َو َس‬
‫ن‬‫ل‬
َ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬
and make easy for us to give alms.
‫صباً َولَ تَ َعب ًا‬ ‫و‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫س‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ه‬
َ
َ َ َْ َ َ ْ ِ ُ َ ‫ه‬ ُ ‫اَلل‬
O Allah, (please) do not inflict us with
fatigue, tiredness,
ً‫َول َل َس َقماً َو َل َعطَبا‬

ailment, or injury.
‫ك ٱ ْْلَالَ يل‬ ‫ي‬

‫ق‬‫ز‬‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ار‬‫ط‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ي‬
‫ٱل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ه‬
َ ْ ْ َ َ ْ ْ َ ُ ْ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫ن‬ ‫ق‬
ْ ‫ز‬‫ٱر‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬
O Allah, (please do) grant us the food
with which we break our fasting from
Your sustenance that is legally gotten.
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬‫ز‬ ‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ت‬‫م‬ ‫س‬‫ق‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ي‬

O Allah, (please do) make easy for us

the gaining of Your sustenance that You
decide for us,
‫س ْر َما قَ هد ْرتَهُ يم ْن أَ ْم ير َك‬

‫وي ي‬
ِ ََ
facilitate for us gaining that which You
decide for us,
‫ٱج َع ْلهُ َحالَلً طَيِباً نَيقيِاً يم َن ٱ ْل ََثيم‬

ْ ‫َو‬
and make it pure, empty of sins,
‫صا ير َو ْٱلَ ْج َر يام‬ ‫ٱل‬

ْ ‫ن‬ ‫َخاليصاً ي‬
‫م‬
َ َ
and free from offenses and flaws.
ٍ ‫اَلله ُه هم َل تُطْ يعمنَا إيله طَيِباً غَ ْْي َخبي‬
َ‫يث َول‬ َ ْ
‫َح َر ٍام‬
O Allah, (please) do not feed us except

the good that is neither bad nor

forbidden.
َ‫شوبُهُ َدنَس َول‬ َ َ‫ٱج َع ْل يرْزق‬

ُ َ‫ك لَنَا َحالَلً َل ي‬ ْ ‫َو‬
‫أَ ْس َقام‬
(Please do) let the sustenance that You
decide for us be legal, carrying neither
filth nor diseases.
‫َي من يع ْلمهُ بي ي‬
‫ٱلس ِير َك يع ْل يم يه بي ْي‬
‫ٱل ْعالَ ين‬ ِ ُ َْ َ
O He Who knows the secret in the same
was as He knows the public!
‫ٱل ْحس ي‬
‫ان‬ ‫ي‬ْ ‫ضالً َعلَ ٰى يعب ي‬
‫اد يه بي‬ ‫َي متَ َف ِي‬
َ َ ُ َ
O He Who confers upon His servants
with benevolence!

‫ََي َم ْن ُه َو َعلَ ٰى ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء قَ يدير‬

O He Who has power over all things
‫َوبي ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء َعلييم َخبيْي‬

and has acquaintance with all things!
‫أَ ْْلي ْمنَا يذ ْك َر َك‬

(Please do) bestow upon us with
(ceaseless) reference to You,
‫َو َجنيِْب نَا ُع ْس َر َك‬

keep us away Your difficulty,
‫َوأَنيْلنَا يُ ْس َر َك‬
make us obtain Your ease,
‫و ْٱه يد ََن ليل هر َش ي‬
‫اد‬ َ

guide us to the right path,
‫س َد ياد‬ ‫ي‬
‫َوَوف َ ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬ ‫ق‬
ْ ‫ي‬
ِ
lead us to righteousness,
‫ص ْمنَا يم َن ٱلبَالَ ََي‬

‫وٱ ْع ي‬
َ
protect us against misfortunes,
ْ ‫صنها يم َن ْٱلَ ْوَزا ير َو‬

‫ٱْلَطَ َاَي‬ ُ ‫َو‬
and safeguard us against sins and
faults.
‫ٱلذنُ ي‬
‫وب غَ ْْيُُه‬ ُّ ‫يم‬ ‫َي من َل ي غْ يفر َع ي‬
‫ظ‬
َ ُ َ َْ َ
O He save Whom none forgives the
grave sins
‫وء إيله ُه َو‬ ‫ٱلس‬

ُّ ‫ف‬
ُ ‫ي‬
‫ش‬ ‫ك‬
ْ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬
َ ‫و‬
َ َ َ
and none can relieve from hardships!

O most Merciful of all those who show
mercy
‫ي‬ ‫وأَ ْكرم ْٱلَ ْكري‬

‫م‬
َ َ ََ َ
and most Generous of all those who
show generosity!
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬‫ه‬‫ط‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ص يل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد وأَ ْه يل ب يتي ي‬
‫ه‬
َ ِ َْ َ َِ
(Please do) send blessings to
Muhammad and his Household the
pure
‫و‬ ‫ب‬‫ق‬ْ ‫م‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬‫ام‬ ‫ي‬‫ص‬‫ي‬

ً ُ َ َ َ َ ‫ٱج َع ْل‬
‫ل‬ ْ ‫َو‬
and decide our fasting to be acceptable
ً ُ ْ َ َ َ ِ ‫َوب‬
‫ل‬‫و‬ ‫ص‬‫و‬ ‫م‬ ‫ى‬
ٰ ‫و‬ ‫ق‬
ْ ‫ٱلت‬
‫ه‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬
‫ْب‬‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬‫ي‬

and connected to piety and godliness.
‫ٱج َع ْل َس ْعيَ نَا َم ْش ُكورًا‬ ‫ي‬ ٰ

ْ َ ‫َوَك‬
َ‫ف‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬
Similarly, (please do) decide our efforts
to be praiseworthy,
‫َوقييَ َامنَا َم ْبُورًا‬

our acts of worship admissible,
ً‫َوقُ ْرآنَنَا َم ْرفُوعا‬

our reciting of the Qur'an raised (to the
heavens),
ً‫اء ََن َم ْس ُموعا‬

َ ‫َو ُد َع‬
and our supplications responded.
‫ن‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬

ْ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫َن‬ ‫ي‬
ٰ َ ْ ُ َ ‫َو ْٱه‬
‫س‬ ‫د‬
(Please do) guide us to the most

excellent way,
‫َو َجنيِْب نَا ٱل ُْع ْس َر ٰى‬

save us from difficulties,
‫س ْرََن لي ْليُ ْس َر ٰى‬

‫وي ي‬
ِ ََ
facilitate for us the easy end,
‫وأَ ْع يل لَنَا ٱل هدرج ي‬
‫ات‬ ََ َ
elevate our ranks,
‫ف لَنَا ٱ ْْلسنَ ي‬
‫ات‬ ‫ي‬
ْ ‫ض‬
‫اع‬ َ ‫َو‬
ََ
double the rewards for our good deeds,
‫صالَ َة‬ ‫ٱل‬‫و‬ ‫م‬‫و‬

‫هْ َ َ ه‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ها‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫َوٱقْ بَ ْل‬
accept our fasting and prayers,
‫ٱْسَع يمنها ٱل هد َعو ي‬
‫ات‬ َ ْ ْ ‫َو‬

react to our supplications,

‫ٱْلَ يطيئَ ي‬
‫ات‬ ْ ‫َوٱ ْغ يف ْر لَنَا‬
forgive our sins,
‫سيئَ ي‬
‫ات‬ ِ ‫َوَُتَ َاوْز َعنها ٱل ه‬
overlook our wrongdoings,
‫ين‬‫ي‬
‫ز‬ ‫ي ٱلْ َفائي‬‫وٱجع ْلنَا يمن ٱلْع ياملي‬
َ َ َ َ َْ َ
make us of the successful worshippers,
‫ي‬ ‫ضالي‬
ِ ‫ه‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬‫ع‬ ‫ي‬
‫وب‬ ‫ض‬ ‫غ‬ ‫ْم‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ْ َ ُ ْ َ َ ‫َولَ َُتْ َع ْلنَا‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫م‬
َ
and do not include us with those who
earn Your anger nor of those who go
astray
‫ضا َن َعنها‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

َ ََ ُ ْ َ َ ‫َّت يَ ْن َق‬
‫م‬‫ر‬ ‫ض‬ ٰ ‫َح ه‬
so that when the month of Ramadhan

elapses,
‫صيَ َامنَا َوقييَ َامنَا‬

‫ت في ييه ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َوقَ ْد قَب‬
‫ل‬
ْ
You shall have accepted our fasting and
acts of worship,
‫ت في ييه أَ ْع َمالَنَا‬
َ ‫َوَزهك ْي‬
blessed our deeds,
‫ت يف ييه ذُنُوبَنَا‬
َ ‫َوغَ َف ْر‬
forgiven our sins,
‫ْت في ييه يمن ُك يل َخ ٍْْي نَ ي‬
‫صيبَ نَا‬ َ ‫ل‬‫ز‬ ‫ج‬
ْ َ
‫أ‬‫و‬
ِ ْ َ َ
and doubled our shares from all good
things.
‫يب‬‫ج‬‫ك ا يل ٰلهُ ٱلْم ي‬

َ ‫ه‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫إ‬َ‫ف‬
ُ ُ
Verily, You are the God Who responds,

‫ر‬ ُّ ‫َوٱل هر‬
the Lord Who is Nigh,
‫ت بي ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء ُيُميط‬

and You encompass all things.

Supplication for Last Night of

Sha’ban and First Night of Month
of Ramadhan
Shaykh al-Tusi has narrated on the

authority of Harith ibn Mughirah al-
Nadhriy that Imam al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬used
to say the following supplication at the
last night of Sha`ban and the first night
of the Month ofRamadhan:

‫اَلله ُه هم إي هن ٰه َذا ٱل ه‬
‫ش ْه َر ٱل ُْمبَ َار َك‬
O Allah, this blessed month
‫ٱله يذي أُنْ يز َل في ييه ٱلْ ُق ْرآ ُن‬

in which the Qur'an was revealed

‫ى ليلن ي‬
‫هاس‬ ‫د‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
ً َ ُ َ ‫َو ُج‬
‫ع‬
and was made guidance for people
‫ان‬ ٍ َ‫وب ين‬
ْ َ َ َِ َ
and clear proofs of the guidance, and
the Criterion (of right and wrong),
‫ض َر‬
َ ‫قَ ْد َح‬
has commenced.
‫فَ َس يلِ ْمنَا في ييه‬
So, (please) keep us out of blemish
during it,
‫َو َسله ْمهُ لَنَا‬
keep it sound for us,

‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬

and receive it from us with means of
easiness and good health from You.
‫ْي‬‫َي من أَ َخ َذ ٱلْ َقلييل و َش َكر ٱلْ َكثي‬
َ َ ََ َْ َ
O He Who has accepted the little
(deed) and thanked for the much,
‫ْي‬ ‫ٱقْ بل يم يّن ٱلْي ي‬
‫س‬
َ َ ِ َْ
(please) accept from me the little
(deed).
َ ُ‫اَلله ُه هم إييِّن أَ ْسأَل‬

‫ك‬
O Allah, I beseech You
‫ال‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
ً ‫أَ ْن َُتْ َع َل يِل إي َ َٰل ُك يِل َخ ٍْْي َسب‬
to make for me a path to every

decency,
‫ب َمانيع ًا‬ ‫ي‬
‫ُت‬
ُ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ي‬
ُّ َ َ ِ ُ ْ ‫َو‬
‫ل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬
and to make for me a barrier against
everything that You do not like.
‫اِح‬
َ ََْ َ
O most Merciful of all those who
show mercy!
‫سيئَ ي‬
‫ات‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت بي َ ِه‬
‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ُ ‫ََي َم ْن َع َفا َع يِّن َو َع هما َخلَ ْو‬
O He Who has pardoned me and
overlooked the misdeeds that I have
committed secretly!
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ٱرت َكاب ٱل َْم َعاصي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ذ‬
ْ ‫َي من ََل ي َؤ ي‬
‫اخ‬
ْ ُْ َْ َ
O He Who has not punished me for
my committing acts of disobedience

to Him!
ُ‫َع ْف َو َك َع ْف َو َك َع ْف َو َك ََي َك يري‬

I seek Your pardon, I seek Your
pardon, I seek Your pardon, O All-
generous!
‫إي ْٰليي َو َعظْتَ يّن فَ لَ ْم أَته يع ْظ‬
O my God, You advised me, but I
have not followed Your advice
‫ك فَ لَ ْم أَنْ َزيج ْر‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َوَز َج ْرتَيّن َع ْن َُمَا ير‬
‫م‬
and You rebuked me for violating
that which You have deemed
forbidden, but I have not stopped.
‫فَ َما عُ ْذ يري‬
Now, what is my excuse?

ُ ‫فَٱ ْع‬
So, (please) pardon me, O All-
generous!
‫َع ْف َو َك َع ْف َو َك‬
pardon!
‫ك‬َُ َ‫أ‬ ‫ّن‬‫ي‬
َ ْ ِ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫ل‬ ‫أ‬‫س‬ ‫إ‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
O Allah, I beseech You
‫ٱل هراحةَ يع ْن َد ٱلْمو ي‬
‫ت‬ َْ َ
for rest at death
‫َوٱل َْع ْف َو يع ْن َد ٱ ْْليس ي‬
‫اب‬ َ
and for pardon at calling to account.

ْ ‫ه‬
ُ ‫َعظُ َم ٱل‬
‫ذ‬
Great is the sin of Your servant;
‫هج ُاوُز يم ْن يع ْن يد َك‬
َ ‫س ين ٱلت‬
ُ ‫ح‬
ْ ‫ي‬
َ ‫ل‬
ْ ‫ف‬
َ
so, let Your overlooking him be
excellent.
‫ََي أَ ْه َل ٱلته ْق َو ٰى َوََي أَ ْه َل ٱل َْمغْ يف َرية‬
O He Who is worth being feared and
is worth forgiving!
‫َع ْف َو َك َع ْف َو َك‬
pardon.
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫م‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ٱب‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ي‬
َ َ ُ ْ ‫اَلله ُه هم إييِّن َع ْب ُد َك ٱبْ ُن َع ْب‬
‫د‬
O Allah, I am Your servant and the

son of Your servant and Your she-

servant
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ِح‬
ْ
َ ََ ٰ ‫ر‬ ‫َل‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫إ‬ ‫ْي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬ ‫ف‬
َ ‫يف‬‫ع‬‫ي‬ ‫ض‬
َ
and I am weak and in need for Your
mercy;
‫ن وٱلْبَك ية َعلَ ٰى ٱل يْعب ي‬
‫اد‬ ٰ ‫ي‬
‫ْغ‬‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ل‬
ُ ‫ي‬
‫ز‬ َ ْ‫َوأَن‬
‫ت ُم ْن‬
َ َ
َ َ َ
while You are the Pourer of wealth
and bless on the servants (of You),
‫قَ ي‬
‫اهر ُم ْقتَ يدر‬
You are omnipotent and full of
power,
‫ت أَ ْع َما َْلُ ْم‬ َ ‫أَ ْح‬
َ ‫ص ْي‬
You have recorded all their (i.e. Your
servants) deeds,

‫ت أَ ْرَزاقَ ُه ْم‬
َ ‫َوقَ َس ْم‬
decided the sustenance of each one
them,
‫وجع ْلتَ هم ُُمْتَلي َفةً أَل ي‬
‫ْسنَ تُ ُه ْم َوأَل َْوا ُُنُ ْم‬ ْ ُ ََ َ
and made them of different languages
and colors
‫َخ ْلقاً يم ْن بَ ْع يد َخ ْل ٍق‬
in different stages of creation.
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬
ْ ‫ي‬
‫ع‬ ‫اد‬‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ُ َ ‫َولَ يَ ْعلَ ُم ٱل‬
‫م‬ ‫ْع‬
Your servants can never attain Your
knowledge
‫اد قَ ْد َر َك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ْع‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
ُ َ ُ ‫َولَ يَ ْق‬
‫ب‬ ‫د‬
and Your servants can never

recognize the real estimate that is due

to You.
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ِح‬
ْ
َ ََ ٰ ‫ر‬ ‫َل‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫إ‬ ‫ْي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬ ‫ف‬
َ ‫ا‬ ُّ
َ‫َوُكل‬
‫ن‬
All of us are needy for Your mercy.
‫ك‬ ْ ‫ص ير‬
َ ‫ف َع يِّن َو ْج َه‬ ْ َ‫فَالَ ت‬
So, (please) do not turn Your Face
away from me
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ك‬ ‫ق‬
َ َ ‫ل‬
ْ ‫خ‬ ‫ي‬ ‫اْل‬‫ص‬َ ْ ‫ٱج َع ْل يّن‬
‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ْ ‫َو‬
and include me with the virtuous
creatures of You
‫يِف ٱل َْع َم يل َو ْٱلَ َم يل‬
in deeds, hopes,
‫ض ياء َوٱلْ َق َد ير‬
َ ‫َوٱلْ َق‬

and Your decisions (for me).

‫ْي ٱلْبَ َق ياء‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬ ‫ب‬َ
َ ْ َ ْ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫خ‬ ‫أ‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
O Allah, (please) keep me alive in the
best manner of living,
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ َ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ك‬‫ائ‬‫ي‬
َ َْ‫ل‬‫و‬ ‫أ‬ ‫الة‬‫و‬َ ُ ٰ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ‫َوأَفْن‬
‫م‬ ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬‫ع‬ ‫اء‬‫ن‬‫ف‬ْ‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ْي‬ ‫خ‬ ‫ّن‬
decide for me to die in the best
manner of death keeping loyal to
Your representatives,
‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ائ‬ ‫د‬ ‫ع‬َ
َ َ ْ ‫اد‬‫أ‬ ‫ي‬
‫اة‬ َ ‫َوُم َع‬
incurring the enmity of Your
enemies,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ه‬‫ر‬‫ٱل‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬‫ل‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫إ‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ َ ْ ‫َوٱل هر ْغبَ ْ َ َ ه‬
‫ن‬‫م‬ ‫ة‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ة‬
keeping desiring for You, fearing
from You,

and submitting to You, being loyal to
You, complying with You,
‫ك‬‫ي‬‫ب‬ ‫ا‬‫ت‬‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫يق‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫هص‬
َ َ ْ ‫َوٱلت‬
believing in Your Book,
‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
َ ُ َ ُ َِ‫َوٱت‬
‫ول‬ ‫س‬ ‫هة‬‫ن‬‫س‬ ‫اع‬
‫ي‬ ‫ب‬‫ي‬
and following Your Prophet’s
instructions.
‫اَلله ُه هم َما َكا َن يِف قَ ْليب‬
O Allah, as for whatever I bear in my
heart,
ٍِ ‫يمن َش‬
‫ك أَ ْو يريبَ ٍة‬ ْ
including suspicion, doubt,

‫وط‬ ٍ ‫أَو جح‬
ْ ُُ ْ
denial, despair,
‫أَ ْو فَ َر ٍح أَ ْو بَ َذ ٍخ أَ ْو بَطَ ٍر‬
(excessive) joy, lavish expenditure or
recklessness,
‫الء أَ ْو يرََي ٍء أَ ْو ُْسْ َع ٍة‬
َ َ‫ي‬‫خ‬ُ ‫و‬
ْ َ
‫أ‬
pride, arrogance, ostentation,
ٍ ‫أَو يش َق‬
ٍ ‫اق أَو نيَف‬
‫اق‬ ْ ْ
discord, hypocrisy,
ٍ ‫صي‬
‫ان‬ ‫وق أَو ي‬
ٍ َ ٍ َ
َْ ْ ‫س‬
‫ع‬ ُ ‫ف‬
ُ ‫و‬
ْ ‫أ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ف‬
ْ ‫ك‬
ُ ‫و‬
ْ ‫أ‬
unbelief, licentiousness,
disobedience,

‫ء‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ش‬ ‫و‬َ‫أ‬ ٍ
ُّ َ ْ َ ْ ‫أَ ْو َعظَ َم‬
‫ة‬
conceit, or anything else that You do
not like;
‫ب أَ ْن تُبَ ِيدلَيّن َم َكانَهُ إيي َما ًَن‬
‫ك ََي َر ِي‬
َ ُ‫فَأَ ْسأَل‬
‫بيَو ْع يد َك‬
I thus beseech You, O my Lord, to
substitute all that with belief in Your
promise,
‫اء بي َع ْه يد َك‬‫ف‬
َ
ً ََ‫و‬‫و‬
fulfillment of my covenant to You,
‫ي‬
‫ائ‬‫ض‬ ‫ق‬
َ ‫ي‬
َ َ ‫َويرضاً ب‬
‫ك‬
satisfaction with what You decide for
me,

‫ٱلدنْ يَا‬
indifference to the worldly pleasures,
‫يما يع ْن َد َك‬‫ور ْغبةً في‬
َ َ ََ
desire for that which You have,
ً‫َوأَثَ َرًة َوطُ َمأْنيينَة‬

altruism, tranquility,
ً‫صوحا‬
ُ َ‫َوتَ ْوبَةً ن‬
and sincere repentance.
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ٰ َ ُ‫أَ ْسأَل‬
َ َ َ َ َ ‫ك‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ب‬
‫ه‬ ‫ر‬ ‫َي‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬
I beseech You for all that, O Lord of
the worlds!
‫ك ََلْ تُ َر‬
َ ‫ه‬
‫ن‬ ‫أ‬
َ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ف‬
َ ‫ى‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ع‬
َٰ ْ َ‫ت‬
ُ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬

O my God, because You are so

forbearing, You are disobeyed as if
You are not present,
‫ص‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ُ َْ َ َ َ ُ َ ُ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ ‫َو‬
‫ع‬ ‫ت‬ ‫َل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬‫ك‬ ‫ف‬ ‫اع‬‫ط‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ك‬‫ود‬ ‫ج‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬‫م‬ ‫ر‬‫ك‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬
and because You are so generous and
magnanimous, You are obeyed as if
You have not been disobeyed at all.
‫ي‬ َ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ك‬‫ض‬
َ ْ ‫ر‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ن‬
ُ ‫ا‬‫ك‬ ُ َ ‫َوأَ ََن َوَم ْن ََلْ يَ ْع‬
‫س‬ ‫ك‬‫ص‬
Both those who have not disobeyed
You and I are the inhabitants of Your
lands;
‫ض يل َج َوادًا‬ َ ْ
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬‫ي‬
ْ ‫فَ ُك ْن َعلَْي نَا ب‬
‫ف‬
so, (please) confer magnanimously
upon us with Your favors

and always refer to us with Your
goodness.

show mercy!
‫صال ًة َدائي َم ًة‬ ‫ٱَّلل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد وآلي ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ه‬
َ َ ُ ٰ ‫صل‬‫ى‬ َ ‫َو‬
May Allah bless Muhammad and his
Household with endless blessings
‫ص ٰى َولَ تُ َع ُّد‬
َ ْ‫َل ُُت‬
that are innumerable, uncountable,
‫َولَ يَ ْق يد ُر قَ ْد َرَها غَ ْْيُ َك‬
and none can do it save You.

O Allah, the Lord of the month of
Ramadhan
‫منَ ِيز َل ٱلْ ُقر ي‬
‫آن‬ ْ ُ
and the Revealer of the Qur'an.

َ ‫ٰه َذا َش ْه ُر َرَم‬
This is the month of Ramadhan
‫ْت يف ييه ٱلْ ُق ْرآ َن‬‫ل‬‫ز‬ ‫ن‬َ

َ َ ْ ‫ٱل‬
‫أ‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬
in which You revealed the Qur'an
‫ان‬ ٍ ‫ْت في ييه آَي‬
ٍ َ‫ت ب ين‬ َ ‫َوأَنْ َزل‬
ْ َ َ َِ َ
and revealed therein chapters of true
guidance and distinction (between the
right and the wrong).
‫اَلله ُه هم ٱرُزقْ نَا ي‬
‫صيَ َام ُه‬ ْ
O Allah, make us observe fast in its
days
‫َوأَ يعنها َعلَ ٰى قييَ يام يه‬

and remain awake in its nights to pray.

‫اَلله ُه هم َسليِ ْمهُ لَنَا‬

O Allah, let it be peaceful for us,

keep us in sound condition for it,
‫ك َوُم َعافَ ٍاة‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬

‫م‬ ٍ
‫ر‬ ‫س‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِف‬ ‫ها‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬
َ ْ ُْ ُ ْ ‫َوتَ َسل‬
‫ه‬ ‫م‬
and receive it from us with easiness
and wellbeing.
‫ضي َوتُ َق ِيد ُر‬

‫ٱجعل يِف ما تَ ْق ي‬
َ ْ َ ْ ‫َو‬
While taking decisions
‫يمن ْٱلَم ير ٱلْمحتومي‬
ُْ َ ْ َ
from among Your inevitable decisions
‫يما تَ ْف ُر ُق يم َن ْٱلَ ْم ير ٱ ْْلَ يك ييم‬‫وفي‬

and from among that which You decide

from the wise affairs
‫يِف لَْي لَ ية ٱلْ َق ْد ير‬

at the Destiny Night
‫ض ياء ٱله يذي َل يُ َر ُّد َولَ يُبَ هد ُل‬ ‫ق‬ْ‫ل‬

َ َ َ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬
from the act that is neither rejected nor
altered,
‫ك ٱ ْْلََر يام‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫اج‬‫ج‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬

َ ْ َ ‫أَ ْن تَ ْكتُ بَ يّن ْ ُ ه ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ي‬ ‫م‬
(please) write my name in the list of
those pilgrims to Your Sacred House
‫ٱل َْم ْبُوير َح ُّج ُه ُم‬

whose pilgrimage receives Your
approval,

‫ٱل َْم ْش ُكوير َس ْعيُ ُه ُم‬

whose efforts are appreciated,
ُ ُ‫ٱل َْمغْ ُفوير ذُن‬

‫وُبُ ُم‬
whose sins are forgiven,
‫ٱل ُْم َك هف ير َع ْن ُه ْم َسيِئَا ُُتُ ْم‬

and whose wrongdoings are
overlooked.
‫ضي َوتُ َق ِيد ُر‬

‫ٱجعل يِف ما تَ ْق ي‬
َ ْ َ ْ ‫َو‬
While making decisions and rendering
possible things and events,
‫يل يِل يِف عُ ْم يري‬‫ط‬‫أَ ْن تُ ي‬

(please) grant me long lifetime

and expand my sustenance, making it

Dua to Welcome the Month of

Ramadhan from Sahifa Sajjadiyah
It is recommended to say the supplication

number forty-four of the al-Sahifah al-
Kamilah al-Sajjadiyyah, which is as
follows:

‫اَ ْْلم ُد يِٰي‬

‫َّلل اله يذ ْى َه َد َاَن يْلَ ْم يد يه‬ َْ
Praise belongs to Allah who guided us to
His praise
‫َو َج َعلَنَا يم ْن اَ ْهلي يه‬
and placed us among the people of
praise,

‫لينَ ُك ْو َن ييل ْح َسانييه يم َن ال ه‬

‫شاكي يريْ َن‬
that we might be among the thankful for
His beneficence
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫س‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ْم‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫آء‬‫ز‬‫ج‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ ‫ى‬ ٰ
‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ْ َ‫َو ل‬
‫ا‬‫ن‬ ‫ي‬‫ز‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ي‬
َْ ْ ُ َ َ َ َ
and that He might recompense us for
that with the recompense of the good-
doers!
‫وا ْْلم ُد يِٰي‬
‫َّلل اله يذ ْى‬ َْ َ
And praise belongs to Allah who
‫َحبَ َاَن بي يديْني يه‬
showed favour to us through His
religion,
‫صنَا يِبيلهتي يه‬
‫َوا ْختَ ه‬

singled us out for His creed,

‫َو َسبه لَنَا ي ِْف ُسبُ يل اي ْح َسانييه‬
and directed us onto the roads of His
beneficence,
‫ض َوانييه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ٰ
‫َل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ْ َِ َ َ ْ َ‫ل‬
‫ن‬ ‫ِب‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬ ‫ك‬ُ‫ل‬‫س‬‫ن‬
in order that through His kindness we
might travel upon them to His good
pleasure,
ٰ ‫َِحْ ًدا يَتَ َقبه لُهُ يمنها َو يَ ْر‬
‫ضى بي يه َعنها‬
a praise which He will accept from us
and through which He will be pleased
with us!

‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬ ٰ
‫َّلل‬‫ي‬
ِ ‫َوا ْْلَم ُد‬
‫َش ْه َره‬
And praise belongs to Allah who
appointed among those roads His
month,
‫ضا َن‬
َ ‫َش ْه َر َرَم‬
the month of Ramazan,
‫َش ْهر ِي‬
‫الصيَ يام‬ َ
the month of fasting,
‫و َش ْهر ْي‬
‫ال ْس َاليم‬ َ َ
the month of submission,
‫َو َش ْه َر الطُّ ُه ْوير‬

the month of purity,

‫َو َش ْه َر الت ْهم يح ْي ي‬
‫ص‬
the month of putting to test,
‫َو َش ْه َر ال يْقيَ يام‬
the month of standing in prayer,
ٍ َ‫هاس و بين‬
‫ات‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ل‬‫اله يذى اُنْ يز َل فيي يه الْ ُقرآ ُن ه ًدى لي‬
َِ َ ُ ْ ْ ْ
‫يمن ا ْْلُ ٰدى والْ ُفرقَ ي‬
‫ان‬ ْ َ َ
in which the Qur’an was sent down as
guidance to the people, and as clear
signs of the Guidance and the Separator!
‫فَاََب َن فَ ي‬
ُّ ‫ض ْي لَتَه َع ٰلى َسائي ير‬
‫الش ُه ْوير يِبَا َج َع َل لَ ُه‬ َ
He clarified its excellence over other
months by the

‫يمن ا ْْلرم ي‬
‫ات ال َْم ْوفُ ْوَرية‬ َ ُُ َ
many sacred things and
‫ضائي يل ال َْم ْش ُه ْوَرية‬
َ ‫َوالْ َف‬
well-known excellencies which He
placed therein,
‫فَ َح هرَم في ْي يه َما اَ يح هل ي ِْف غَ ْيْييه اي ْعظَ ًاما‬
for He made unlawful in it what He
declared lawful in others to magnify it,
‫ب اي ْك َر ًاما‬‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫و‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫اع‬‫ط‬ ‫ْم‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ‫َو َح َج َر ف‬
‫ر‬ ‫ا‬‫ش‬‫ْم‬
He prohibited foods and drinks in it to
honour it,
‫َو َج َع َل لَهُ َوقْ تًا بَيِنًا‬
and He appointed for it a clear time

‫َل ُيَي ْي َز َج هل َو َع هز اَ ْن يُ َق هد َم قَ ْب لَ ُه‬

which He (majestic and mighty is He)
allows not to be set forward
ُ‫َوَل يَ ْقبَ ُل اَ ْن يُ َؤ هخ َر َع ْنه‬

and accepts not to be placed behind.
‫اح َد ًة يم ْن لَيَاليْي يه َع ٰلى لَيَ ْي‬
‫اَل‬ ‫ضل لَي لَةً و ي‬
َ ْ ‫ه‬ ‫ف‬
َ ‫ُث‬
‫ه‬ُ
َ
‫هاها‬
َ َ َ ْ َ ‫اَل‬
‫ْس‬ ‫و‬ ٍ
‫ر‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ي‬
‫ْف‬
Then He made one of its nights surpass
the nights of a thousand months and
named it
‫لَْي لَةَ الْ َق ْد ير‬
the Night of Decree;

‫ح في ْي َها يَبي ْذ ين َريُِبي ْم يم ْن‬ ‫ال‬ ‫و‬ ‫ة‬ ‫ك‬

َ ‫ي‬
ُ ْ ‫تَ نَ هز ُل ال َْم ََلئ ُ َ ه‬
‫و‬ ‫ر‬
‫ُك يِل اَ ْم ٍر‬
in it the angels and the Spirit descend by
the leave of their Lord upon every
command,
‫ْبَك ية اي ََل طُلُ ْو يع الْ َف ْج ير َع ٰلى َم ْن‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫م‬‫ي‬
ََ ُ ‫َس َالم َدآئ‬
‫ضائييه‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫م‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ ُ‫يَ َشآء‬
‫ِب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫اد‬ ‫ب‬‫ع‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬
a peace constant in blessings until the
rising of the dawn upon whomsoever He
will of His servants according to the
decision He has made firm.
‫اَل ٰلِه هم ص يل َع ٰلى ُُمَ هم ٍد و آليهي‬
َ َِ ُ

Household,
‫َو اَ ْْلي ْمنَا‬
inspire us with
‫ض يل يه‬
ْ َ‫َم ْع يرفَةَ ف‬
knowledge of its excellence,
‫َو اي ْج َال َل ُح ْرَمتي يه‬
veneration of its inviolability,
‫ت في ْي يه‬
َ َْ َ ‫ظ‬
‫ر‬‫ظ‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬
‫ِم‬‫ي‬ َ ‫هح ُّف‬
َ ‫َوالت‬
and caution against what Thou hast
forbidden within it,

‫ف ا ْْلََوار ي‬ ‫صيَ يام يه بي َك ِي‬
‫و اَ يعنها َعلَى ي‬
َ
‫ك َح َِّٰت‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ِب‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ف‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ْ َ َ ْ ‫َم َع‬
‫ي‬ ‫ض‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ا‬ ‫اْل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ع‬‫ي‬‫ت‬‫اس‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫اص‬
and help us to fast in it by our
restraining our limbs from acts of
disobedience toward Thee and our
employing them in that which pleases
Thee, so that
‫اعنَا اي ََل لَغْ ٍو‬
‫َل نُص يغى يَبَ ْْس ي‬
َ َ ْ
we lend not our ears to idle talk
ٍ‫صا يرََن اي َٰل َْلْو‬
َْ ‫ع‬
‫ب‬َ ‫ي‬
‫َب‬ َ ‫َو َل نُ ْس ير‬
and hurry not with our eyes to diversion,
ٍ‫ط اَيْ يديْ نَا اي َٰل َُْمظُْور‬
َ‫س‬ ‫ب‬
ُْ ‫ن‬
َ ‫ل‬َ ٰ
‫َّت‬
ِ ‫َو َح‬

we stretch not our hands toward the

forbidden
ٍ‫َوَل ََنْطَُو يَبَقْ َد يامنَا اي َٰل َُْم ُج ْور‬
and stride not with our feet toward the
prohibited,
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ‫َو َح َِّٰت َل ت‬
‫ت‬‫ل‬ْ ‫ل‬
َ ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬‫ه‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬ ‫ن‬‫و‬ُ‫ط‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ى‬ ‫ع‬
our bellies hold only what Thou hast
made lawful
‫ت‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬
‫ث‬ ‫م‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِب‬ ‫ل‬‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ْ
َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ َ ‫َو َل تَ ْن‬
‫ن‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬‫ْس‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ط‬
and our tongues speak only what Thou
hast exemplified,
‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ا‬‫و‬ ‫ث‬
َ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ن‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ا‬ ‫ف‬
َ ‫ه‬
‫َو َل نَتَ َكل‬
َ َ ْ ْْ ُ َ
we undertake nothing but what brings
close to Thy reward

َ ‫َو َل نَتَ َعاطَى ال الذ ْى م ْن ع َقاب‬
and pursue nothing but what protects
from Thy punishment!
‫ك ُكلههُ يم ْن‬‫ي‬ ٰ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ‫ُُثه َخل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬ ‫ص‬ِ
Then rid all of that from
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ائ‬‫ر‬‫ْم‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫يرَي ي‬
‫ء‬
َْ َُ َ
the false show of the false showers
‫ي‬‫و ُْسْع ية الْمس يم ْي‬
‫ع‬
َ ُْ َ َ
and the fame seeking of the fame
seekers,
‫ك‬ ‫د‬ ‫ا‬ ‫د‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ُ ً َ َ ْ ‫َل نَ ْش َر ُك ف‬
‫ن‬‫و‬
lest we associate therein anything with
Thee

or seek therein any object of desire but
Thee!
‫ص يِل َع ٰلى َُمَ هم ٍد َو آلي يه‬ ٰ
َ ‫اَل ِ ُ ه‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
Household,
‫اْلَ ْم ي‬
‫س‬ ْ ‫ات‬‫صلَو ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ال‬ ‫وقْ يفنَا في ْي يه َع ٰلى مواقي ْي ي‬
‫ت‬
َ ََ َ
in it make us attend to the appointed
moments of the five prayers within
‫ت‬ ‫د‬‫د‬‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ي‬
‫َّت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬
َ ْ َ ْ َ ُُْ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫و‬ ‫د‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِب‬
the bounds Thou hast set,
‫ت‬ ‫ف‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬‫ض‬‫ي‬
َ ْ َ ْ َ ‫َو فُ ُرْو‬
‫ض‬ ‫ر‬
the obligations Thou hast decreed,

‫ظ‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ َ ‫َو َوظَائ‬
‫ف‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬‫ف‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
the duties Thou hast assigned,
‫َو اَ ْوقَ ياُتَا اله ْي‬
‫َّت َوقه ه‬
‫ت‬
and the times Thou hast specified;
‫َو اَنْ يزلْنَا في ْي َها َم ْن يزلَ َة‬
and in the prayers make us alight in the
station of
‫ي لي َمنَا يزيْلَا‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ْ ‫ال ُْم‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬‫ص‬
the keepers of their stations,
‫ي يلَ ْركَ ياُنَا‬‫ا ْْلافي ْي‬
‫ظ‬
َ َ
the guardians of their pillars,
‫ال ُْم َؤيِديْ َن َْلَا ي ِْف اَ ْوقَ ياُتَا َع ٰلى َما‬

their performers in their times,

‫ك َعلَْي يه َو آلي يه‬َ ُ‫صلَ َوات‬
َ ‫ك‬
َ ُ‫َسنههُ َع ْب ُد َك َو َر ُس ْول‬
‫اضلي َها َع ٰلى‬ ‫يِف رُكو يع َها و سجويد َها و َي‬
‫َج ْي يع فَ و ي‬
َ َ ُْ ُ َ ْ ُ ْ
as Thy servant and Thy messenger set
down in his Sunna (Thy blessings be
upon him and his Household) in their
bowings, their prostrations, and all their
excellent acts,
‫اَ َيتِ الطُّ ُه ْوير َو اَ ْسبَ يغ يه‬
with the most complete and ample ritual
purity
‫ش ْو يع َو اَبْ لَ يغ يه‬ ْ ‫ي‬
ُ ُ‫اْل‬ ‫َو اَبْ َ ي‬
and the most evident and intense
humility!

Give us success in this month to

tighten our bonds of kin with devotion
and gifts,
‫ال َو ال َْع يطيه ية‬
‫ضي‬ َ ‫ف‬
ْ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ْ ‫ي‬
‫َب‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ْ ‫اه َد‬
‫ن‬ ‫ان‬‫ْي‬ ‫ج‬ َ ‫َو اَ ْن نَتَ َع‬
attend to our neighbours with bestowal
and giving,
‫و اَ ْن َُنَليِص اَ ْموالَنَا يمن الْتهبيع ي‬
‫ات‬ َ َ َ َ َ
rid our possessions from claims,
‫اج ال هزَكو ي‬
‫ات‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ر‬ ‫خ‬
ْ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
‫َب‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬َ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬
ِ ‫ط‬
َ ‫ن‬
ُ ‫ن‬
ْ ‫ا‬
َ ‫و‬
َ َ َ َ
purify them through paying the alms,

َ َ ْ َ َ ‫َو اَ ْن نُ َر‬
‫ه‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ع‬ ‫اج‬
go back to him who has gone far from
us,
‫ف َم ْن ظَلَ َمنَا‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َو اَ ْن نُ ْن‬
‫ص‬
treat justly him who has wronged us,
‫اد َاَن‬‫ع‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫و اَ ْن نُس ي‬
‫اَل‬
َ َ ََْ َ َ
make peace with him who shows enmity
toward us
‫ك فَيانهه‬َ ‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬‫ف‬‫ي‬ ‫ى‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ٰ ‫َح‬
َ َ َ ْ َ ‫اشى َم ْن عُ ْو‬
‫ل‬
(except him who is regarded as an
enemy in Thee and for Thee, for he is
‫ال َْع ُد ُّو اله يذ ْى َل نُ َواليْي يه‬
the enemy whom we will not befriend,

the party whom we will not hold dear),

‫ب‬ ُّ ‫يِبَا تُطَ يِه ُرََن بي يه يم َن‬
‫الذنُ ْو ي‬
and seek nearness to Thee through
blameless works which will purify us
from sins
‫ف يم َن الْعُيُ ْو ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬‫ن‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِم‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
ُ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ‫َو تَ ْع‬
‫ن‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ص‬
and preserve us from renewing faults,
‫ك ايله‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ئ‬ ‫ال‬
َ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ِ ‫َح‬
‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫د‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬
َ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬
َ ‫ع‬ ‫د‬‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬َ ٰ
‫َّت‬
‫ُد ْو َن َما نُ ْوير َد يم ْن‬

so that none of Thy angels will bring for

Thee
‫ك‬‫ل‬

َ َ‫ي‬
‫ة‬ ‫اع‬‫ه‬
‫ط‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ي‬
‫اب‬‫اَبْ َو‬
the kinds of obedience and
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬
َ ‫و اَنْ و ياع الْ ُقرب ية اي‬
َ ْ َْ َ َ
sorts of nearness-seeking unless they be
less than what we bring! [245]
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬ ٰ
َ َُ ْ َ ِْ ‫اَل ِ ُ ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫س‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ِن‬ ‫ا‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬‫ل‬
O Allah, I ask Thee
‫يِبَ يِق ٰه َذا ال ه‬
‫ش ْه ير‬
by the right of this month
‫ك في ْي يه‬َ ‫ه‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ ْ َ ِ َ ‫َو‬
‫ل‬ ‫د‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ِب‬

and by the right of him who worships

Thee within it
‫يمن ايبْتي َدائييه اي َٰل وقْ ي‬
‫ت فَ نَائيهي‬
َ ْ
from its beginning to the time of its
passing,
ٍ َ‫يمن مل‬
‫ك قَ هربْ تَه‬ َْ
whether angel Thou hast brought nigh
to Thee,
ٍِ ‫اَ ْونَي‬
‫ب اَ ْر َس ْلتَه‬
prophet Thou hast sent,
‫صتَه‬ ‫ي‬ ٍ
ْ َ َ ْ ٍ َ ‫اَ ْو َع ْب‬
‫ص‬ ‫ت‬‫خ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ال‬‫ص‬ ‫د‬
or righteous servant Thou hast singled
out,

that Thou bless Muhammad and his
Household,

‫م‬ ‫ك‬‫ئ‬ ‫آ‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
‫ل‬‫و‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ت‬‫د‬ ‫ع‬‫و‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ ِ َ‫َو ا‬
‫ف‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬‫ل‬ْ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬
make us worthy of the generosity Thou
hast promised Thy friends,
‫ت يلَ ْه يل ال ُْمبَالَغَ ية ي ِْف‬ ‫ب‬‫ج‬ ‫و‬َ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬
َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ ‫َو اَ ْو‬
‫ف‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬َ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬‫ج‬‫ي‬
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫اعت‬َ َ‫ط‬
make incumbent for us what Thou hast
made incumbent for those who go to
great lengths in obeying Thee,

and place us in the ranks of those who
deserve through Thy mercy the highest
elevation!

َ ‫اَل ِ ُ ه‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
Household,
‫َو َجنيِْب نَا‬
turn us aside from
‫اد ي ِْف تَ ْو يح ْي يد َك‬‫ْل‬
ْ
ََ ْ ‫ي‬
‫ال‬
deviation in professing Thy Unity,

falling short in magnifying Thee,

‫ِف‬ ‫َو ال ه‬
‫شه‬
in Thy religion,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ‫َو ال َْع ٰمى َع ْن َسب‬
‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
blindness toward Thy path,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫م‬‫ر‬
َ َ ُْ‫ْل‬
ْ ‫ا‬ ‫ال‬
َ ‫ف‬َ ‫غ‬
ْ ‫ي‬
‫ال‬ْ ‫َو‬
heedlessness of Thy inviolability,
‫ان ال هريج ْي يم‬ ‫اع لي َع ُد ِيو َك ال ه‬
‫ش ْيطَ ي‬ ‫د‬ ‫ي‬ْ
َ َ ْ ‫َو‬
‫َن‬ ‫ي‬
‫ال‬
and being deceived by Thy enemy, the
accursed Satan!
‫اَل ٰلِه هم ص يل َع ٰلى ُُمَ هم ٍد هو آليهي‬
َِ ُ

and when in every night of this month’s
nights Thou hast necks which Thy
pardon will release and Thy forgiveness
disregard,
‫ك ال ِيرقَ ي‬
‫اب‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬‫ي‬
َ ْ َ‫اج َع ْل يرقَاب‬
ْ ْ َ‫ف‬
place our necks among those necks
ٍ ‫ص َح‬
‫اب‬ ٍ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ‫اج َع ْلنَا ل‬
‫ا‬ ‫و‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ْي‬ ‫خ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫َن‬‫ر‬ ‫ه‬‫ش‬ ْ ‫َو‬
and place us among the best folk and
companions of this our month!

Household,
‫اق يه َاللي يه‬
‫و ْاُمَ ْق ذُنُوب نَا مع هاُمَ ي‬
َ َ َْ َ
efface our sins along with the effacing of
its crescent moon,
‫اسلَ ْخ َعنها تَبي َعاتينَا َم َع انْ يس َال يخ اَ َِيَيم يه‬
ْ ‫َو‬
and make us pass forth from the ill
effects of our acts with the passing of its
days,
‫ح َِّٰت ي ْن َق ي‬
‫ض َى َعنها َو قَ ْد‬ َ َ
until it leaves us behind, while within it

purified us of offenses
‫سيئَ ي‬

‫ال‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ف‬ ْ َ‫َوا ْخل‬
and rid us of evil deeds!
‫ص يِل َع ٰلى ُُمَ هم ٍد َو آلي يه‬ ٰ
َ ‫اَل ُ ه‬
‫م‬ ‫ه‬‫ل‬
ِ
Household,
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫َو ا ْن م ْلنَا ف ْيه فَ َع ِدلْنَا‬
and should we go off to one side in this
month, set us aright;
‫َو اي ْن ُز ْغنَا يف ْي يه فَ َق ِيوْمنَا‬
should we swerve, point us straight;

‫َو ان ا ْشتَ َم َل َعلَْي نَا َع ُد ُّو َك الش ْيطَا ُن‬
‫استَ ْن يق ْذ ََن يم ْن ُه‬

and should Thy enemy Satan enwrap
us, rescue us from him!
‫اَل ٰلِ ُه هم‬
O Allah,
‫ادتينَا اي هَي َك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ‫ا ْش َح ْنهُ ب‬
‫ب‬‫ع‬
fill this month with our worship of Thee,
‫ك‬‫ل‬
َ ‫ا‬‫ن‬‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫اع‬‫ط‬
َ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ‫َو َزيِ ْن اَ ْوقَاتَهُ ب‬
adorn its times with our obedience
toward Thee,
‫و اَ يعنها يِف َُنَا يريه َع ٰلى ي‬
ْ َ

help us during its daytime with its fast,

‫َو ي ِْف لَْيلي يه َعلَى‬
and in its night with
‫ك‬ ‫وة والتهض ُّر يع اَي‬
‫ي‬
َ ْ َ َ َ‫صل‬
‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ال ه‬
prayer and pleading toward Thee,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ة‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ ِ ‫ك َو‬
‫ي‬ ‫د‬ ‫الذ‬ َ َ‫ش ْو يع ل‬ ْ ‫َو‬
ُ ُ‫اْل‬
humility toward Thee, and lowliness
before Thee,
‫ارهُ َعلَْي نَا بيغَ ْفلَ ٍة َو َل لَْي لُ ُه‬ ‫ُن‬
َ
ُ َ ََ ‫د‬
َ ‫ه‬‫ش‬ْ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬َ ٰ
‫َّت‬
ِ ‫َح‬
‫بيتَ ْف يريْ ٍط‬
so that its daytime may not bear witness
against our heedlessness, nor its night
against our neglect!

O Allah,
‫ك َما‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬

‫ر‬ ‫و‬ ‫ه‬ ُّ
‫الش‬ ‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
‫ائ‬‫س‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ‫ه‬ َ ْ َ ُْ َ ْ ‫اج َع ْلنَا‬
‫ِف‬ ْ ‫َو‬
‫َع هم ْرتَ نَا‬
make us like this in the other months
and days as long as Thou givest us life,
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ‫اج َع ْلنَا ْ َ َ ه‬
‫اْل‬‫ص‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ك‬‫اد‬ ‫ب‬‫ع‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ْ ‫َو‬
and place us among Thy righteous
servants,
‫س ُه ْم يف ْي َها َخالي ُد ْو َن‬ ‫و‬ ‫د‬‫ر‬
َ َْ ْ
‫ي‬
‫ْف‬‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ن‬
َ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬
ْ َ َ ْ ‫ال‬
‫ث‬
ُ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬
those who shall inherit Paradise, therein
dwelling forever,

‫َو اله يذيْ َن يُ ْؤتُ ْو َن َمآ اَتَ ْو َو قُلُ ْوُُبُ ْم َو يجلَة اَ هُنُ ْم‬
‫اي َٰل ريُِبيم ر ي‬
‫اجعُ ْو َن‬َْ َ
those who give what they give, while
their hearts quake, that they are
returning to their Lord,
‫اْلَ ْْي ي‬
‫ات َو ُه ْم َْلَا‬ ْ ‫َو يم َن اله يذيْ َن يُسا ير ُع ْو َن ْي‬
‫ِف‬
َ َ
‫َسابي ُق ْو َن‬
those who vie in good works, outracing
to them!
‫ص يل َع ٰلى ُُمَ هم ٍد َو آلي يه ِْفي‬ ٰ
ِ َ ‫اَللِ ُه هم‬

in every time,

in all moments,

to the number that Thou hast blessed
whomsoever Thou hast blessed
‫َّت َل‬ ‫ضع ي‬
‫اف اله ْي‬ ْ ‫ل‬
َ ْ ‫ي‬
‫َب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬
ِ ‫ك‬
ُ ‫ك‬
َ ‫اف‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ َ ‫ض َع‬
ْ َ‫َو ا‬
َ
‫ُُْي ي‬
‫ص ْي َها غَ ْْيُ َك‬

‫أ‬ ‫ذي‬‫ه‬‫اَل‬
in which You revealed the Qur'an,
‫نات يمن ا ْْلُدى والْ ُفرقَ ي‬
‫ان‬ ٍ ‫اس وب ي‬
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ْ َ َ ِ َ َ ِ ‫دى ل‬
‫لن‬ ً ‫ُه‬
As guidance for people and clear proofs of
true guidance and distinction (between the
right and the wrong),

َ ‫قَ ْد َح‬
Has commenced.
‫طان ال هر ي‬
،‫جيم‬ ‫فيه يم َن ال ه‬
‫ش ْي ي‬ ‫ك ي‬ َ ‫ب أَعوذُ بي‬
‫َي َر ِي‬
O Allah: in this month, I seek Your
protection against Satan, the accursed,
،‫َويم ْن َم ْك يريه َو يحيَلي يه‬

And against his tricks and his ruses,
‫و يخ ي‬
،‫داع يه َو َحبائيلي يه‬ َ
And his deception and his trickeries,
،‫نود يه َو َخيلي يه‬

‫وج ي‬
َُ
And his parties and his riding forces,
،‫َوير ْجلي يه َوَوسا يو يس يه‬

And his on foot forces and his evil

inspirations,
‫ض ي‬
،‫الل بَ ْع َد ا ْْلُدى‬ ‫َويم َن ال ه‬
And against straying off after being guided,
‫ال ي‬
،‫ُيان‬ ‫َويم َن الْ ُك ْف ير بَ ْع َد ْي‬
And against atheism after belief,
،‫ناَيت‬ ‫الر ي‬
‫َيء وا ْْلي ي‬‫ي‬ ‫و‬ ‫ويمن النيِ ي‬
‫فاق‬
َ ِ َ َ َ
And against hypocrisy and showing off and
felonies,
‫اْلَن ي‬
،‫هاس‬ ‫اس الْ يو ْس ي‬
ْ ‫واس‬ ‫اْلَنِ ي‬ ‫َويم ْن َش ِير الْ يو ْس ي‬
ْ ‫واس‬
And against the evil of the whisperings of
the slinking Devil,
‫صدوير النها ي‬
،‫س‬ ‫ِف‬ ‫س‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ه‬
ُ ُ ْ َ ُ ‫ال‬
‫و‬ ‫س‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ذي‬

Who whispers into the hearts of men;

‫يم َن اْلين يهة َوالنها ي‬
.‫س‬
From among the jinn and the men.
،ُ‫يامه‬‫صيامهُ وقي‬
‫اللِ ُه هم وارُزقّْن ي‬
َ َ َ َْ
O Allah: and confer upon me with the
fasting and the doing of acts of worship
during this month,
،‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬
َ َ ‫طاع‬‫ي‬‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
‫فيه‬ ‫َوال َْع َم َل‬
And with the doing of acts of obedience to
You,
،‫ك َوأُوِل ْالَ ْم ير‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

َ َ ‫طاع‬
‫سول‬‫ر‬ ‫ة‬ َ ‫َو‬
And to Your Messenger and the Men in
Authority,

ُ ‫َعلَ َ َ ُ ه‬
‫س‬‫ال‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬
َ ‫ع‬‫و‬ ‫يه‬
May peace be upon him and them,
،‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َْ ‫ب‬
‫ن‬‫م‬ َ ‫َوما قَ هر‬
And the doing of whatever act that takes
me near You,
،‫يك‬ ‫ي‬
‫عاص‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ِْ‫َو َجن‬
‫ّن‬‫ب‬
And (please) take me away from acts of
disobedience to You.
‫الَنبَةَ َو ْي‬
.َ‫الجابَة‬ ‫وارُزقّْن ي‬
‫فيه َو ْي‬ َْ
And confer upon me in this month with
repentance, turning to You, and responding
to Your instructions.
،‫فيه يم َن الْغيبَ ية َوالْ َك َس يل َوالْ َف َش يل‬ ‫وي‬

‫أع ْذّن ي‬

And protect me in it against backbiting and

lethargy and failure.
،‫عاء‬ ُّ
‫الد‬ ‫واستَ يجب ِل في ي‬
‫ه‬

And respond my prayers in it.
‫أص هح ِل ي‬
‫فيه يجسمي َو َع ْقلي‬ ‫و ي‬
َ
And grant me well-being for my body and
my intellect.
،‫نك‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ب‬‫ر‬ ‫ق‬
َ
َ َ‫َ َ َ ه‬‫ما‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫طاع‬‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫فيه‬ ‫َوفَ ِير ْغّن‬
And grant me time to do acts of obedience
to You as well as acts that take me near
You.
.‫واد‬
ُ ‫َي َكريُ َي َج‬
O the All-generous; O the All-
magnanimous.

(please) send blessings upon Muhammad

Peace be upon him and them,

And do all that to us,

The Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬is also

supplicatory prayer at the first night of
the Month of Ramadhan:

All praise be to Allah Who has honored
us with you,

O blessed month.
‫صيَ يامنَا َوقييَ يامنَا‬

make our steps firm,

and assist us against the unbelieving
people.

‫أ‬ ‫م‬

O Allah, You are surely the One;
therefore, You have not son.
‫ك‬َ ‫ه‬ ‫ب‬‫ش‬‫ي‬

َ َ ْ َ‫ص َم ُد فَال‬
‫ل‬ َ ْ‫َوأَن‬
‫ت ٱل ه‬
You are the eternally Besought of all;
therefore, nothing is like You.

You are the Almighty; therefore,
nothing can overcome You.

You are the Self-sufficient while I am
poor.

slave.

You are the All-forgiving while I am
sinful.

You are the All-merciful while I am

mistaken.
‫ٱْلَالي ُق َوأَ ََن ٱل َْم ْخلُو ُق‬

You are the Creator while I am (Your)
creature.
ُ ِ‫ت ٱ ْْلَ ُّي َوأَ ََن ٱل َْمي‬

‫ت‬ َ ْ‫َوأَن‬
You are the Ever-living while I am
mortal.

َ ‫ك بيَر ِْحَت‬

I thus beseech You in the name of Your
mercy
‫أَ ْن تَ غْ يف َر يِل َوتَ ْر َِحَيّن َوتَ تَ َج َاوَز َع يِّن‬

to forgive me, have mercy upon me,
and excuse my offenses.

If others beg people for settling their
needs,

I ask none except You for settling my
need;

partner with You

to send blessings upon Muhammad and
his Household,

And to choose for me a way to Your
Holy House this year:

A pilgrimage that is admitted, accepted,

pure, and sincerely for You
،‫تَ َق ُّر يُبَا َع ْي يّن‬

By which You delight me,
،‫َوتَ ْرفَ ُع يُبَا َد َر َج يِت‬

And raise my rank with You
،‫ص يري‬ ‫َوتَ ْرُزقَيّن أَ ْن أَغُ ه‬

َ َ‫ض ب‬
And to confer upon me with the grace
of making me cast my sight down
(against what is illegal for me to look
at)
،‫ظ فَ ْريجي‬ ْ ‫َوأَ ْن أ‬

َ ‫َح َف‬
And making me act chastely

And making me stop committing any
deed that You have deemed unlawful

َ َ ْ ‫ط‬
َ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
ْ ‫َح هَّت ل يَ ُكو َن َش ْيء آثَ َر‬
‫ع‬
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َو َخ ْشيَت‬
So that nothing will be more preferred
in my sight than the obedience to You
and the fear of You
،‫ت‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ب‬‫َح‬‫أ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬

َ ْ َ ْ َ ‫َوال َْع َم يل‬
‫ِب‬
And doing all that which You love,
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
،ُ‫ت َع ْنه‬
َ َْ َ َ ْ َ َ ‫الَت‬
‫ي‬‫ُن‬
َ ‫و‬ ‫ت‬‫ه‬‫ر‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ك‬ ْ‫َو ه‬
And avoiding all that which You have
detested and warned against.

‫ك يِف يُ ْس ٍر َويَ َسا ٍر َو َع يافيَ ٍة َوَما‬ ‫ي‬

َ ‫اج َع ْل ذل‬
ْ ‫َو‬
،‫ت بي يه َعلَ هي‬
َ ‫أَنْ َع ْم‬
And (please) make all that take place
with easiness, lenience, and good
health as well as the grave that You
have bestowed upon me.
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫ك أَ ْن َُتْ َع َل َوفَ ياِت قَ ْتالً يِف َسبييل‬
َ ُ‫َسأَل‬
ْ ‫َوأ‬
And I beseech You to cause me to die as
martyr for Your sake,
،‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬‫َو‬
‫أ‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ َ َ َ ِ َ َ‫ت َراي‬
‫ائ‬‫ي‬ ‫ة‬ َ ْ‫َُت‬
Under the pennon of Your Prophet and
in the line of Your intimate servants.
‫اء‬‫د‬َ
َ َ َ‫ع‬
ْ َ
‫أ‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫اء‬ ‫د‬
َ ‫ع‬
ْ َ
‫أ‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّب‬ ‫ك أَ ْن تَ ْقتُ َل‬
َ ُ‫َسأَل‬
ْ ‫َوأ‬

And I ask You to make me the means of
killing Your enemies and the enemies
of Your Messenger.
‫ت يم ْن‬ ‫ئ‬ ‫ي‬

‫ان‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ْ َ ََ ‫ك أَ ْن تُ ْك يرَم يّن‬
‫ُب‬ َ ُ‫َسأَل‬
ْ ‫َوأ‬
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َخ ْل‬
‫ق‬
And I ask You to honor me through
humiliating any one of Your created
beings that You choose,
.‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬‫َو‬
‫أ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ٍ
‫د‬ ‫َح‬
‫أ‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ْ َ َ َ ِ ‫َول ُُت‬
‫ائ‬‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ة‬ ‫ام‬
‫ر‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ي‬
And not to humiliate me through
honoring any of Your intimate servants.
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
،ً‫اج َع ْل ِل َم َع ال هر ُسول َسبيال‬ ٰ
ْ ‫اَللِ ُه هم‬

O Allah: find me a way with the

Messenger.
.ُ‫اء اَ َِّٰلل‬
َ ‫ش‬َ ‫ا‬‫م‬َ ،ُ ِٰ
‫َّلل‬‫ا‬

َ َْ ‫ح‬
Allah is Sufficient unto me! Only that
which Allah wants shall take place.

Tawassul to the Ahlulbayt ‫ عليه السالم‬on

the 1st Night of Ramadhan
This is an excerpt from the book Spiritual

Journey of the Mystics (Saluk-e-Arifan) -
which is the translation of Arabic
book: al-Muraqebat fi Amal al-Sunnah,
written by the most eminent perfect
mystic Late Haj Mirza Javad Agha
Maliki Tabrizi;
Another thing which a prudent wayfarer
should not forget during the first night
of this holy month is resorting
(Tawassul) to the impeccable
ones (Ma'sumin) in that night. It is up to
him to stretch his hand sincerely

saintly personalities by offering
salutations and thanks should open our
tongues for needs, and saying the
following sincerely and honestly:
‫المة‬
ِ ‫أنت َي سيِدي ِف هذه الليلة حامي‬
‫وخفْيهم‬
O' my masters! Tonight you are the
support and shelter of everyone
‫ُتب الضيافة‬
ِ ، ‫وأكرم اْلالئق‬
you are the most exalted and generous
among all exalted and generous ones,
you like inviting guests and want to be
generous towards them

‫ عبدك‬، ‫جل جالله َبلجارة‬

ِ ‫ومأمور من هللا‬
‫ وجار هللا وجارك‬، ‫ضيف هللا وضيفك‬
Allah (the Glorious, the Exalted), has
commanded you to provide refuge and
shelter for the wretched and
unsheltered people
‫فأجر عبدك وأضفه‬

now here is one of the Allah's
unsheltered servants who has came to
attend your as well as Allah's feast has
attached his heart upon your support
and well as Allah's support and
hospitality
‫واجعل قراي منك الليلة أن تدخلّن ِف مهِك‬

‫ وشفاعتك‬، ‫ ودعائك وِحايتك‬، ‫وحزبك‬

‫ووليتك وشيعتك‬
be hospitable and allow him to sit upon
the table of your generosity and treat
him in the following manner:
Consider him as your friend and
supporter and do not deprive him from
your best support and endeavors; do not
deprive him from your prayer, backing,
and intercession
، ‫ وقبوله‬، ‫وارغب إَل هللا ِل ِف كرم عفوه‬

‫ورضاه‬

ask Allah (the Glorious, the Exalted), not

to deprive him from His Forgiveness
and Benevolence; shouldn't deprive him
from His mercy and compassion
‫عّن رضا ل‬
ِ ‫إِل نظرة رحيمة ُبا‬
ِ ‫ينظر‬ ‫وأن‬
‫ ويلحقّن بشيعتكم‬، ً‫علي بعده أبدا‬
ِ ‫سخط‬
‫ وأوليائكم السابقي‬، ‫املقربي‬
ِ
then look at him with love and pleasure;
becoming so happy and pleased with
him that after that He should never
become unhappy and angry with him,
should regard him as His sincere friend
and worthy servant...

ً‫ فإ ِن لك عند هللا شأَن‬، ‫فإنِه ل ير ِد شفاعتك‬

‫ فبح ِق هذا‬، ‫ وقدراً من القدر‬، ‫من الشأن‬
‫الشأن الذي جعل هللا لك‬
O' my masters! Please beseech Allah (the
Glorious, the Exalted), to bestow upon
me these things; He will accept your
prayer and intercession, because your
splendour and majesty, and your worth
and prestige before Him is far greater
than what could be perceived by the
human mind and understanding.
‫َي مولي أسألك أن تسمح ِف ح ِقي ِبا‬

‫ وتزيدّن ِبقدار كرامتك‬، ‫سألتك‬

I swear to you by your splendour and

majesty, which Allah (the Glorious, the
Exalted), has bestowed upon you, to
look towards me with kindness

ِ ‫ول تنظر َي سيِدي إَل حقارِت‬
‫وسوء حاِل‬
and do not deprive me from whatever I
have desired; reward me more than
whatever I have asked in accordance
with your generosity
‫وذل مقامي‬
ِ ‫ول تنظر َي سيِدي إَل حقارِت‬
‫ فإ ِن الكرام ل يعظم عليهم ِف‬، ‫وسوء حاِل‬

، ‫كرامتهم وعطاَيهم بقدر الضيوف السائلي‬
‫ والقرى بقدر‬، ‫فإ ِن العطاء بقدر املعطي‬

don't look upon my worthlessness,
disobedience, and deviations, because
the generosity of the generous ones and
the hospitality shown by the exalted
ones are in accordance with their
generosity and exaltedness and not in
proportion with the worth and merit of
their recipients.
‫سادِت أنتم الذين علِمتم الكرام آداب‬

‫ والجواد شيم اْلود والسماحة‬، ‫الكرامة‬

O' my masters! You are the ones who
have taught greatness to the exalted
ones, generosity to the generous ones,
and benevolence to the benevolent ones;
‫ وأصله‬، ‫إن ذكر اْلود كنتم ِأوله وآخره‬

‫وفرعه ومنتهاه‬
if there is a discussion about the
benevolence you are the first and the
last as well as the roots and the branches
‫وإن قيل الكرم فأنتم معدنه ومأواه‬

magnanimity and greatness you are
their fountainhead;
.‫ل ير ِد سائلكم ول خييب آملكم‬

you are the ones who never returned any
one hopeless and empty-handed
‫سادِت أنتم الذين قلتم‬

as you yourself have proclaimed:
‫الب‬
ِ ‫يصيب‬ ، ‫املطر‬ ‫مثل‬ ‫املعروف‬ ‫مثل‬
‫والفاجر‬

"Your generosity and reward like rain

water pour upon the righteous ones as
well as upon the bad ones, likewise;"
‫فال َتنعوّن سحائب رافتكم‬

do not deprive me from the rain of your
generosity
‫فليصبّن أمطار جودكم‬

saturate me with the rain of your
generosity,
‫ ومن كرمكم ظمآن‬، ‫فإّن من جودكم جائع‬

( do not deprive me from the pouring of
your love ) because I am thirsty for your

generosity and hungry for your love and

affection;
ً‫ل ترضوا لضيفكم أن يبيت ِف ِحاكم جائعا‬

ً‫ضمآَن‬
you don't like that your guests who have
taken shelter in your threshold and have
tied their hopes upon your benevolence
should remain thirsty and hungry.
ُّ ، ‫فأنت َي مولي مَّت ما منعتّن قراك‬

‫بت‬
، ‫ ووصلت إَل اْلالك‬، ‫طاوَيً ِف ِحاك‬
O' my masters! If you will deprive me
from your hospitality I will die with

hunger under your shelter sitting upon

the side of your tablecloth.

No! No! You wouldn't treat me in this
manner; you are not the ones who
would deprive the guests from your
hospitality so that he would return
heart-broken, hopeless and hungry.

Dua before Reciting the Holy

Qur’an
It is highly advisable to recite the Holy

Qur'an very frequently at the first hours
of the Month of Ramadhan. In this
respect, it has been narrated that Imam
Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬used to say the
following supplication before he would
start reciting the Holy Qur'an:

O Allah, I testify that this is the Book

(these are) Your Words, Your Prophet
gave tongue to,

َ َ ٰ َ َ ْ ً ‫َج َع ْلتَهُ َه‬

(whom) You appointed as guide for the
people,
‫ك وب ْي يعب ي‬
‫اد َك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ً ‫َو َح ْبالً ُمت‬
‫ن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ا‬ ‫يم‬‫ف‬ ‫ال‬ ‫هص‬

and a connected link between You and

Your servants.

O Allah, I am opening Your testament
and Your Book.
‫اد ًة‬‫ب‬‫ع‬‫اَللهه هم فَٱجعل نَظَ يري في ييه ي‬

O Allah, decide my looking in it to be a
kind of worship,
‫اءيِت في ييه في ْكرًا‬

‫ر‬
َََ
‫وقي‬
my reciting in it to be ponderation,
‫َوفي ْك يري في ييه ا ْعتيبَارًا‬

and my ponderation over it to be
learning lessons from it.

Include me with those who take lessons

ْ ‫و‬
َ َ
and those who accordingly avoid doing
acts of disobedience to You.
‫اءيِت َعلَ ٰى َْسْ يعي‬

‫ر‬ ‫ولَ تَطْبع يع ْن َد قي‬
ََ َْ َ
Do not seal on my hearing while I am
reciting it,
‫ص يري يغ َش َاو ًة‬

َ َ‫َولَ َُتْ َع ْل َعلَ ٰى ب‬
do not place covering on my sight,
‫اء ًة ل تَ َدبُّ َر في َيها‬

‫ر‬ ‫ولَ َُتْعل يقراءيِت قي‬
ََ ََ َْ َ

and do not decide my reciting to be

thoughtless;
‫آَيتييه َوأَ ْح َك َام ُه‬ ْ ‫بَ يل‬

َ ‫ٱج َع ْل يّن أَتَ َدبه ُر‬
rather, (please) make me ponder over
its verses and laws,
‫ك‬‫ي‬‫ين‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫ع‬
َ ‫ً ََ ي‬‫ي‬ ‫ا‬
‫ر‬ ‫ش‬‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ذ‬ ‫ي‬
‫آخ‬
learning the laws of my religion.
‫َولَ َُتْ َع ْل نَظَ يري في ييه غَ ْفلَ ًة‬

Do not decide my looking in it to be
inadvertence,
‫اءيِت َه َذرًا‬
‫ر‬ ‫ولَ ي‬
‫ق‬
ََ َ
and do not allow my reciting to be
worthless.

O Allah, I have recited that which You

that You revealed to Your truthful
Prophet,

Peace of Allah be upon him and his
Household.

So, all praise be to You, our Lord.
‫ٱج َع ْل يّن يِمه ْن ُيُي ُّل َحالَلَ ُه‬ ‫م‬

O Allah, (please do) make me of those
who do only what is deemed legal
therein,
ُ‫َوُُيَ ِيرُم َح َر َامه‬

avoid that which is deemed unlawful
therein,
‫َويُ ْؤيم ُن يِبُ ْح َك يم يه َوُمتَ َش ياُبي يه‬

and believe in its decisive and
allegorical verses.
‫ٱج َع ْلهُ يِل أُنْساً يِف قَ ْيبي‬

(Please) decide it to be entertainment

for me in my grave
‫َوأُنْساً يِف َح ْش يري‬

and entertainment when I will be
resurrected.
‫ٱج َع ْل يّن يِمه ْن تُ َرقيِ ييه بي ُك يِل آيٍَة قَ َرأَ َها َد َر َجةً يِف‬
ْ ‫َو‬
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫أَ ْعلَ ٰى يع ي‬
‫ل‬

(Please) include me with those whom
You raise a rank to the most elevated
position with each verse that they
recite.

‫آم‬

Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds!

General Acts for the First Day of

the Holy Month of Ramadhan
Take a Ghusl in flowing water and to

pour on the head thirty handfuls of water,
for such a deed brings about security
against all pains and ailments up to the
next year.
It is recommended to wash one’s face

with a handful of rose water so as to be
saved against humiliation and poverty,
and to pour some of it on the head so as
to be saved from pleurisy.
It is recommended to offer the first of the

month prayer that consists of two

Rakàhs and to give alms (sadqa) after it.
It is recommended to offer a prayer of

two Rakàhs at the first of which Surah
of al-Fatihah and Surah of al-Fath (No.
48) should be recited and at the second
Rakàh, Surah of al-Fatihah and any
other Surah should be reicted. If one
offers this prayer, Almighty Allah will
save him from all evils and will keep him
under His custody up to the next year.

Supplication at Dawn on the First

Day of the Month of Ramadhan
When the dawn breaks forth, it is

recommended to say the following

You have made obligatory upon us to
observe fasting during it.

as guidance for people and clear proofs
of true guidance and distinction
(between the right and the wrong).
O Allah, (please) help us observe
fasting in it,
accept it from us,
‫َوتَ َسله ْمهُ يمنا‬
receive it from us (with acceptance),
‫م‬ ٍ ‫س‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ْ ُ َ ُ ْ ‫َو َسل‬
‫ر‬ ‫ِف‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ن‬‫ل‬

and keep it sound for us with easiness

Dua of Imam Musa Kadhim ‫عليه السالم‬

for the First Day of the Month of
Ramadhan
In his book of ‘Zad al-Maàd’, Àllamah

al-Majlisiy has mentioned that al-
Kulayniy, al-Tusiy, and others, through
an authentic series of narrators, have
reported Imam Musa al-Kaïm ‫ عليه السالم‬as
saying, “Say the following supplication
in the month of Ramadhan—on the first
day of it, as is understood by scholars—
for if one prays Almighty Allah with this
supplication purely and without
associating any false purposes or
showing off, he will be saved, throughout
that year, from all seditious and

misleading matters as well as all

afflictions that may injure his religion or
his body; and Almighty Allah will save
him from the evils of all the misfortunes
that will occur in that year.” The

encompasses everything,

in the name of Your greatness which
dwarfs everything,

in the name of Your power which
subdues everything,

in the name of Your control which
dominates everything,

‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

in the name of Your omnipotence
which overreaches and possesses

which comprehends everything.

O Light! O Holy!

O Foremost before everything!
‫َوََي ََبقيياً بَ ْع َد ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء‬

O Ever-living after all things!
‫ٰن‬ ‫ََي ه‬
ُ ‫اَّللُ ََي َر ِْح‬
O Allah! O All-beneficent!

Send blessings to Muhammad and the
Household of Muhammad,

‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
forgive me my sins that alter the
bounties,
‫وب ٱلهيِت تُ ْن يز ُل ٱلنيِ َق َم‬ ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

َ ُ َ ْ ‫َوا ْغ‬
‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
forgive me my sins that bring in
punishments,
‫اء‬‫ج‬ ‫ر‬‫ٱل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ي‬

‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

forgive me my sins that cut off hope,

forgive me my sins that give

forgive me my sins that preclude the
prayers,

‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
‫ٱلْبَالَيء‬
forgive me my sins that make me liable
to suffer misfortunes,
‫س َم ياء‬‫ٱل‬ ‫ث‬ ‫ي‬‫غ‬ ‫س‬

‫ْ ُ َْ َ ه‬‫ي‬‫ب‬‫ُت‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ي‬
‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬‫ي‬
forgive me my sins that stops the rain
of the sky,
‫اء‬‫ط‬ ‫ف ٱل ي‬
‫ْغ‬ ‫ش‬‫ي‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
forgive me my sins that lay bare the

forgive me my sins that whip off
destruction,
‫ث ٱلنه َد َم‬‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫و‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ُ ُ َ ُ َ ْ ‫َوٱ ْغ‬
‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
forgive me my sins that leave behind
remorse,
‫ص َم‬ ‫ك ٱل ي‬
‫ْع‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ُت‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ُ ْ َ َ ُ َ ْ ‫َوٱ ْغ‬
‫ن‬ ‫ٱلذ‬ ‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬
forgive me my sins that tear up my
integrity,
‫َ تُ َر ُام‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ي‬

‫ِت‬ ‫ك ٱْل ي‬
‫صينَةَ اله‬ َ ‫ع‬
َ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫س‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ْ
‫ل‬ َ
‫أ‬‫و‬
َ َ ْ ْ َ
surround me with Your impregnable
and invincible shield,

‫ٱلن‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫ٱل‬‫ي‬‫ب‬ ‫ر‬ ‫و َعافي يّن يمن َش ير ما أُح ي‬
‫اذ‬
َ َ ْ ُ َ َِ ْ َ
‫ُم ْستَ ْقبَ يل َسنَ يِت ٰه يذ يه‬
and keep me safe from the evil of which
I beware in nights and days in the
beginning of this year.
‫س ْب يع‬ ‫سماو ي‬
‫ات ٱل ه‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ه‬
ََ ‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ َ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬
O Allah, the Lord of the seven skies,
‫س ْب يع َوَما فيي يه هن َوَما بَ ْي نَ ُه هن‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ي‬‫ض‬‫ي‬

‫ب ْٱلَ َر َ ه‬
‫َوَر ه‬
the Lord of the seven (layers of) earth,
all that is therein, and all that is
between them,
‫ش ٱل َْع يظ ييم‬
‫ب ٱل َْع ْر ي‬
‫َوَر ه‬
the Lord of the Great Throne,

‫س ْب يع ٱلْمثَ ياّن وٱلْ ُقر ي‬
ْ َ َ ‫ب ٱل ه‬ ‫َوَر ه‬
the Lord of the seven oft-repeated
verses and the matchless Quran,
‫يل‬‫ب إي ْسرافييل ويمي َكائييل وج ْبائي‬

‫ه‬ ‫ر‬ ‫و‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ
the Lord of (Archangels) Seraph,
Michael, and Gabriel,
‫ٱَّللُ َعلَْي يه َوآلي يه َسيِ يد‬

َ
ٍ ‫ب ُُمَ هم‬
‫د‬ ‫َوَر ه‬
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ِ َ َ َ َ ‫ٱل ُْم ْر َسل‬
‫ب‬‫ه‬‫ن‬‫ٱل‬ ‫ات‬ ‫خ‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬
and the Lord of Muhammad, blessings
of Allah be on him and on his
Household, the Chief of the
Messengers, the Seal of Prophet!
‫ك‬ ‫س‬
َ َ ‫ف‬
ْ ‫ن‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ت‬
َ ْ َ َ ‫كب‬
‫هي‬
‫ْس‬َ ‫ا‬‫ِب‬
َ ‫ي‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬ َ ُ‫أَ ْسأَل‬

I beseech You in Your name and in the

name of that which You referred to
Yourself!
‫ت ٱله يذي ََتُ ُّن بيٱل َْع يظ ييم‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫يم‬‫ظ‬‫ي‬

َ ْ ُ ‫ََي َع‬
O Great! You are He who distributes
bounties freely,
‫َوتَ ْدفَ ُع ُك هل َُْم ُذوٍر‬

repels all avoided things,
ٍ ‫َوتُ ْع يطي ُك هل َج يز‬
‫يل‬
gives all abundant things,
‫ات بيٱلْ َقلي ي‬
‫يل َوبيٱلْ َكثي يْي‬ ‫ف ٱ ْْلسنَ ي‬
ُ ‫ي‬
‫اع‬‫ض‬َ ‫ت‬
ُ‫و‬
َ َ َ
doubles the recompense of good deeds
with little and much recompense,

ُ‫َوتَ ْف َع ُل َما تَ َشاء‬

and does what He wills.
‫ٰن‬‫ِح‬
ْ ‫ر‬ ‫َي‬ ‫ه‬
‫اَّلل‬ ‫َي‬ ‫ير‬ ‫ي‬
‫د‬ ‫ق‬
َ ‫َي‬
ُ َ َ ُ َ ُ َ
O Omnipotent! O Allah! O All-
beneficent!
‫ص يِل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد َوأَ ْه يل بَ ْيتي يه‬

َ
Send blessings to Muhammad and his
Household,
‫َت َك‬
َْ ‫ي‬
‫س‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫َوأَلْبي ْس يّن يِف ُم ْستَ ْقبي يل َسنَ يِت ٰه‬
surround me, during this year, with
Your protection,
‫ونَ ِي‬
‫ض ْر َو ْج يهي بينُوير َك‬ َ
let Your light beautify my face,

َ ََ ‫ح‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ب‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬

let Your love draw me closest to You,
‫ك‬ ‫ا‬‫و‬ ‫ض‬‫ي‬

‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ْ ْ ‫َوبَل‬
‫ن‬ ‫ّن‬ ‫غ‬ِ‫ي‬
and let Your pleasure to reach me
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ َ ‫َو َش ير‬

َ ‫يف َك َر َامت‬
as well as Your excellent generosity
‫ك‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ ‫َو َج‬
‫ت‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ع‬ ‫يم‬‫س‬‫ي‬
and Your weighty rewards.
‫َوأَ ْع يط يّن يم ْن َخ ْيْي َما يع ْن َد َك‬

Give me from the good that You have
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ق‬ ‫ل‬ ‫خ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ا‬ ‫د‬ ‫ح‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ي‬
‫يه‬‫ط‬‫ي‬ ‫ع‬ َ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
ْ
َ َ ْ ً َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ ‫َو‬
‫م‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫م‬ ‫ْي‬ ‫خ‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬
and from the good You give to any one

from among Your creation,
‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫اف‬‫ع‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ‫َوأَلْب‬
‫ّن‬ ‫س‬‫ي‬
and with that kind of Your protection,
keep me safe.
‫َي مو ي‬
‫ض َع ُك يِل َش ْك َو ٰى‬ َْ َ
O He Who settles all complaints!
‫وَي َش ي‬
‫اه َد ُك يِل ََْن َو ٰى‬ ََ
O He Who witnesses all confidential
talks!
‫َوََي َع ياَلَ ُك يِل َخ يفيه ٍة‬

O He Who knows all hidden things!
‫َوََي َدافي َع َما تَ َشاءُ يم ْن بَلييه ٍة‬

O He Who repels whatever misfortune

‫ََي َك يريَ ٱل َْع ْف يو‬

O He Who is oft-forgiving
compassionate!
‫هج ُاويز‬
َ ‫ََي َح َس َن ٱلت‬
O He Who overlooks excellently!
‫يم َوفيطْ َرتييه‬ ‫تَ وفهيّن َعلَ ٰى يمله ية إيب ر ي‬

‫اه‬
َ َْ َ
Make me die following religion and
nature of Abraham,
‫ٱَّللُ َعلَْي يه َوآلي يه َو ُسنهتي يه‬

َ
ٍ ‫و َعلَ ٰى يدي ين ُُمَ هم‬
‫د‬ َ
the faith and traditions of Muhammad,
‫ك‬‫ي‬‫ائ‬‫ي‬‫ي‬
‫ل‬‫و‬َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫ي‬‫ي‬
‫ال‬‫و‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ه‬
‫ف‬ ‫و‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ً َ ُ َ َ َ َ‫َو َعلَ ٰى َخ ْيْي ٱل َْوف‬
‫اة‬
with the best departure, make me die

following Your friends,
‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ائ‬ ‫د‬ ‫ع‬َ‫ل‬ ‫َي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ً ‫َوُم َع‬
‫اد‬
and antagonizing Your enemies.
‫سنَ ية‬
‫ه‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬
ٰ ‫ي‬
‫ِف‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
ِْ ‫اَلله ُه هم َو َجن‬
O Allah, keep me far off, during his
year,
‫ك‬ ‫ن‬‫م‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫ّن‬ ‫د‬ ‫ي‬
‫اع‬‫ب‬ ‫ي‬ ٍ
‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬
َ ْ ُ َُ ْ ‫ُك هل َع َم ٍل أَ ْو قَ ْوٍل أَ ْو ف‬
from every deed, word, or act that takes
me away from You,
‫ٱجلي ْب يّن إي َ َٰل ُك يِل َع َم ٍل أَ ْو قَ ْوٍل أَ ْو في ْع ٍل‬

ْ ‫َو‬
bring me near to every deed, word, or
act
‫سنَ َة‬
‫ه‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬
ٰ ‫ي‬
‫ِف‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ن‬‫م‬‫ي‬
َ ْ ‫يُ َق ِيربُيّن‬

that takes me near to You in this year.

‫اِح‬
َ ََْ َ
mercy!
‫َو ْٱمنَ ْع يّن يم ْن ُك يِل َع َم ٍل أَ ْو قَ ْوٍل أَ ْو في ْع ٍل‬

Forbid me to do any deed, word, or act
‫ض َرَر َع ياقبَتي يه‬

َ ‫اف‬
ُ ‫خ‬ َ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ِ ‫يَ ُكو ُن‬
‫أ‬ ‫ّن‬ ‫م‬
that I fear its result,
‫ي َعلَْي يه‬
َ ‫كإ‬
‫َي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ُ ‫َوأَ َخ‬
َ َ‫اف َم ْقت‬
and I fear Your wrath because of it;
‫ك ٱلْ َك يريَ َع يِّن‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ج‬‫و‬ ‫ف‬

َ ‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫ص‬‫ت‬
َ َْ َ ْ َ ْ َ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ار‬ ‫ذ‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ح‬
lest, You may turn Your Noble Face
away from me.

‫ظ يِل يع ْن َد َك‬
ٍِ ‫ب بي يه نَ ْقصاً يم ْن َح‬‫ج‬‫فَأَ ْستَ و ي‬
َ ْ
Then, I am restrained from obtaining
my share of good fortune.
‫يم‬ ‫وف َي ري‬

ُ َ َ ُ ‫ََي َرُؤ‬
‫ح‬
O Compassionate! O Merciful!
‫ٱج َع ْل يّن يِف ُم ْستَ ْقبي يل َسنَ يِت ٰه يذ يه يِف‬ ‫م‬

‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
‫ك‬َ ْ ‫ي‬
‫ظ‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ي‬
‫ح‬
O Allah, keep me, throughout this year,
under Your protection,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ ‫َويِف‬
‫ف‬ ‫ن‬‫ك‬َ ‫ي‬
‫ِف‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫ر‬ ‫ا‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬
‫ج‬
in Your vicinity, and under Your care.
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫اف‬
َ َ َ َْ‫ع‬ ‫َت‬ ‫ي‬
‫س‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ل‬
ْ ‫ي‬
‫َو َجل‬
ِ

Cover me with Your protective

covering,
َ َ‫ب يِل َك َر َامت‬

‫ك‬ ْ ‫َو َه‬
and give me Your kindness.
‫ار َك‬
ُ ‫َع هز َج‬
Strong is he who is in Your vicinity,
‫َو َج هل ثَنَا ُؤ َك‬

glorious is Your praise,
‫َولَ إي ٰلهَ غَ ْْيُ َك‬

and there is no god but You.
‫ض ٰى يم ْن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬

َ َ َْ‫م‬ ‫ي‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫اْل‬ ‫ص‬
َ
‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
ً ‫ع‬‫ي‬‫ب‬ ‫َت‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ل‬
ْ ‫ع‬ ‫ٱج‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬‫ائ‬‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ‫أَ ْول‬

O Allah, make me follow the example of

Your upright intimate servants,
‫َوأَ ْْلي ْق يّن يُبي ْم‬

attach me to them,
‫ك‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬

‫ق‬ ‫د‬ ‫ي‬
‫ٱلص‬‫ي‬‫ب‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ
َ ْ َ ِْ َ َ ْ َ َ ُ ‫ٱج َع ْل‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
ً ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ ‫س‬‫م‬ ‫ّن‬ ْ ‫َو‬
‫يم ْن ُه ْم‬
make me submissive to those who
convey from You truthfully.
‫ط يّب َخ يطيئَ يِت َوظُْل يمي‬

َ ‫ك ٱلله ُه هم أَ ْن ُيُتي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َوأَعُوذُ ب‬
I seek Your protection, O my God, lest I
am encompassed by my sin,
wrongdoing,
‫اي‬‫و‬ ‫ْل‬ ‫وإيسر ياِف علَ ٰى نَ ْف يسي وٱتِيب ي‬

‫اعي ي‬
َ ََ َ َ َ َْ َ

immoderation towards myself, going

after my whims,
‫َوٱ ْشتيغَ ياِل بي َش َه َو ياِت‬

and being involved in my caprices;
‫ك‬‫ي‬ ْ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫ت‬ ‫ِح‬
ْ ‫ر‬ ‫ي‬‫ب‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ‫ول‬
‫ان‬‫و‬ ‫ض‬ ‫ر‬ ‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ّن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ ُ ‫فَ يَ ُح‬
as a result, all that will prevent me
from attained Your mercy and pleasure
‫فَأَ ُكو ُن َم ْن يسيِاً يع ْن َد َك‬

and I may be forsaken by You
‫ي‬ ‫ق‬
ْ ‫ي‬
‫ن‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬‫ط‬‫ي‬ ‫خ‬ ‫س‬‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ ‫ُمتَ َع ِيرضاً ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬
and exposed to Your wrath and
chastisement.
‫ض ٰى بي يه َع يِّن‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ي‬

‫ال‬‫ص‬ ٍ
‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ي‬
‫ف‬ ‫و‬ ‫ه‬
َ ْ َ ٍ َ ََ ِ ُ ْ ِ َ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬

O Allah, please guide me successfully to

every righteous deed due to which You
be pleased with me
‫ي‬َ‫ل‬‫ي‬
َ ْ ‫َوقَ ِيربْيّن إ‬
‫ك ُزلْ َف ٰى‬
and take me nearer to You.
‫ٱَّللُ َعلَْي يه‬

َ ً‫ا‬ ‫د‬ ‫م‬‫ه‬ ‫ُم‬
َُ ‫ك‬ َ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬َ‫ن‬ ‫ت‬َ ‫ي‬
ْ َ ُ ‫اَلل‬
‫ف‬َ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ك‬
َ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ه‬
‫َوآلي يه َه ْو َل َع ُد ِيويه‬
O Allah, just as You saved Your Prophet
Muhammad—blessings of Allah be on
him and his Household—from the
terror of his enemies,
ُ‫ت َمههه‬
َ ‫َوفَ هر ْج‬
removed his anxieties,

ُ‫ت غَ همه‬
َ ‫َوَك َش ْف‬
dispersed his troubles,
‫ص َدقْ تَهُ َو ْع َد َك‬

َ ‫َو‬
proved true the promise You made to
him,
َ ‫َوأَ َْنَ ْز‬

‫ت لَهُ َع ْه َد َك‬
and fulfilled Your word to him,
‫سنَ ية‬ ‫ٱل‬ ‫ي‬

‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫ي‬
‫ف‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ٱ‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
‫ل‬ ٰ
‫ذ‬ ‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ف‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ه‬
‫ه‬ ٰ َ َْ ْ َ َ َ ‫ه‬ ُ ‫اَلل‬
so also, O Allah, keep me safe from the
horror of this year
‫َوآفَ ياُتَا َوأَ ْس َق َام َها‬

as well as its epidemics, ailments,

َ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ ‫َوف‬
‫ر‬ ‫ش‬ ‫و‬ ‫ا‬‫ه‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ت‬
sedition, evils,
‫اش في َيها‬
‫يق ٱل َْم َع ي‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫َوأَ ْح َز َاُنَا َو‬
‫ض‬
sadnesses, and economic distress.
‫ال ٱل َْعافييَ ية‬

َ ‫ك َك َم‬ ‫ي‬
‫ت‬ ‫ِح‬‫ر‬‫ي‬
‫ب‬ ‫ي‬
‫ّن‬ ‫غ‬ِ‫ي‬
َ َ ْ َ ْ ‫َوبَل‬
In the name of Your mercy, make me
attain perfect wellbeing
‫بيتَ َم يام َد َو يام ٱلنيِ ْع َم ية يع ْن يدي إي َ َٰل ُم ْن تَ َه ٰى أَ َجليي‬

through the perfection of the perpetuity
of Your favors to me up to the end of
my lifetime.
‫ٱستَ َكا َن‬ َ ‫ال َم ْن أَ َس‬

ْ ‫اء َوظَلَ َم َو‬ َ ُ‫أَ ْسأَل‬
َ ‫ك ُس َؤ‬

ََ ‫َوٱ ْع‬
I beseech You the beseeching of one
who has made mistake and wronged,
but then submitted and confessed.
‫وب‬ ُّ ‫ض ٰى يم َن‬
‫ٱلذنُ ي‬ ‫م‬ ‫ا‬‫م‬ ‫ي‬
‫ِل‬ ‫ر‬‫ف‬‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ ْ‫ك أَ ْن تَ غ‬
َ ُ‫َوأَ ْسأَل‬
I beseech You to forgive those earlier
sins
َ ُ‫ص َرُْتَا َح َفظَت‬

‫ك‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ‫ٱل‬
‫ح‬ ‫ِت‬ ‫ه‬
which are counted by Your Preserving
Angels
‫ي‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬
‫ك َعلَ هي‬ َ ‫ئ‬ ‫ال‬ ‫م‬ ‫ام‬
‫ر‬ َ ‫َوأَ ْح‬
َ َ َ ُ َ ‫ص ْت َها ك‬
‫ت‬ ‫ك‬
and recorded by Your appointed
Angels,

ُّ ‫ص َم يّن ٱلله ُه هم يم َن‬

‫ٱلذنُ ي‬
‫وب‬ ‫وأَ ْن تَ ْع ي‬
َ
to protect me, O Allah, against sinning
‫يما بَيق َي يم ْن عُ ْم يري إي َ َٰل ُم ْن تَ َه ٰى أَ َجليي‬

َ
‫في‬
in the rest of my lifetime up to my
death.
‫يم‬ ‫اَّلل َي ر ِْحٰن َي ري‬

‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫َي‬
ُ َ َُ َ َ َ ُ
O Allah! O All-beneficent! O All-
merciful!
‫ت ُُمَ هم ٍد‬
‫ص يل َعلَ ٰى ُُمَ هم ٍد وأَ ْه يل ب ْي ي‬
َ َ َِ
Send blessings to Muhammad and the
Household of Muhammad,
‫ك في ييه‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬
َ ‫ي‬
‫إ‬ ‫ت‬‫ب‬‫غ‬‫ي‬
َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ‫َوآت ُ ه‬
‫ر‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ْت‬
‫ل‬ ‫أ‬

‫السالم‬ for the 1st Day

Duas on Sighting the New Moon of

When your eyes fall on the new moon,

to carry with it for us security, faith,

‫الم‬ ‫الم ية َو ْي‬

‫ض ٰى‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ت‬‫و‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ي‬

‫اَلله ُه هم ََب ير ْك لَنَا يِف َش ْه يرََن ٰه َذا‬

‫ض هرهُ َو َش هرهُ َوبَالَ َءهُ َويف ْت نَ تَ ُه‬ ْ ‫ٱص ير‬

and save us from its harm, evil, ordeals, and

‫الم‬ ‫الم ية َو ْي‬

‫ض ٰى‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ي‬

‫اَلله ُه هم ََب ير ْك لَنَا يِف َش ْه يرََن ٰه َذا‬

‫ض هرهُ َو َش هرهُ َوبَالَ َءهُ َويف ْت نَ تَ ُه‬ ْ ‫ٱص ير‬

It has been narrated that when the Holy

‫اَلله ُه هم أَ يهلههُ َعلَْي نَا بي ْٱلَ ْم ين وٱ ْيلي م ي‬

‫الم‬ ‫الم ية َو ْي‬

‫َوٱل َْعافييَ ية ٱل ُْم َجليِلَ ية َويدفَ ياع ْٱلَ ْس َق يام‬

‫ضا َن‬ ‫م‬‫ر‬ ‫ي‬

‫َوتَ َسله ْمهُ يمنها‬

‫َو َسليِ ْمنَا يف ييه‬

‫ضا َن‬ ‫م‬‫ر‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ها‬

‫ت لَنَا َوَريِحْتَ نَا‬

Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬is also

‫ْت في ييه ٱلْ ُق ْرآ َن‬

‫ات يمن ٱ ْْلَُد ٰى وٱلْ ُفرقَ ي‬

‫صيَ يام يه‬

‫َوتَ َقبه ْلهُ يمنها‬

‫َو َسليِ ْمنَا يف ييه‬

‫َو َسليِ ْمنَا يم ْن ُه‬

‫ك َو َعافييَ ٍة‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬

‫ك َعلَ ٰى ُك يِل َش ْي ٍء قَ يدير‬ ‫ه‬

‫يم‬‫ح‬‫َي ر ِْحٰن َي ري‬

Dua 43 – Sahifa Sajjadiyah – Upon

It is recommended, at the sight of the

Ramadhan while he was walking. He

‫َتيِد ُد يِف َمنَا يزيل ٱلته ْق يدي ير‬

‫ك ٱلْبُ َه َم‬ ‫ي‬ َ ‫َوأَ ْو‬

illuminates jet-black shadows by you,

‫ٱل ََنرية وٱلْ ُكس ي‬

‫ت لَهُ ُم يطيع‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ك‬‫ي‬

‫ب َما َدبه َر يم ْن أَ ْم ير َك‬

َ ‫ٱَّللَ َريِّب َوَربه‬

‫ك‬ ‫ق‬‫ي‬‫ال‬‫خ‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ي‬

‫َوُم َق ِيد يري َوُم َق ِيد َر َك‬

that He bless Muhammad and his

‫ك يهالَ َل بَ َرَك ٍة َل َتَْ َح ُق َها ْٱلَ هَي ُم‬

‫س َها ْٱل ََث ُم‬ ‫وطَ َهارٍة َل تُ َدنِي‬

‫َويُ ْس ٍر َل ُُيَا يز ُجهُ عُ ْسر‬

‫شوبُهُ َش ٍِر‬ ٍْ ‫َو‬

‫َو َس َال َم ٍة َوإي ْس َالٍم‬

‫آل ُُمَ هم ٍد‬
