1.0 Scope
This specification covers the furnishing of labor, materials and services in connection with the
design, fabrication, calibration, and delivery of Nuclear Density Transmitters and Nuclear Switches
required for “Antamina Expansion Program”.
The work is subject to all conditions and instructions in the documents listed as attachments to the
material requisition. The Vendor shall be responsible for and governed by all the requirements
therein.
The Vendor shall furnish the equipment as listed on the attached data sheets, and as described
herein, including all accessories required to insure correct and continuous operation of the system
and any items ultimately required to meet the intent of this specification.
The Vendor shall provide qualified personnel as may be required to supervise installation, check-
out, calibration and start-up of the system.
The climatic conditions at the plant are specified in, "Site Conditions" 104-08655-000-CDD-M-003.
The Vendor shall notify if the climatic conditions available are not adequate for the proposed
system.
Unless otherwise stated herein, the equipment supplied under this specification shall be designed,
manufactures, and tested according to the latest applicable provisions of the following standards:

In case there are discrepancies between this specification and the applicable codes or standards,
the applicable code or standard shall supersede and the Purchaser is informed in writing by the
Vendor of such discrepancies.
In case there are discrepancies between this specification and the attached data sheets, the data
sheets shall supersede.
Each device furnished under this specification shall be suitable for continuous operation, 24 hours
per day, 7 days per week, 52 weeks per year, in a dusty atmosphere containing grit and micron
sized particles in dry plant or with acid mist in wet plant and shall perform satisfactorily under
environmental and operating conditions specified in the attached instrument data sheets.
All electrical and electronic field instruments shall have clamp type terminal blocks or screw
terminals.
Source intensity calculation must be done by the Vendor, based on mounting details, including
class of material and slurry composition. Automatic source decay compensation shall be included
as part of the electronics.
The radioactive source shall be Cesium 137 and shall be double encapsulated in lead. Suitable
shielding shall be provided in conformance with standard practices.
The nuclear source instruments shall be provided with a hand-operated shutter mechanism for the
radiation source. The shutter shall include provisions for locking in the closed position by means of
a key and key-lock mechanism or padlock.
The Vendor shall certify that the surface radiation intensity of the gauge assembly, including
source, detector and adjacent process equipment shall not exceed 5 mR / h around 30 cm.
The power supply shall be 120 VAC, 60 Hz. Where higher source values are required, the Vendor
shall advise accordingly.

The Vendor shall obtain for Antamina all written authorizations, licensing certificates, transportation
certificates and possession, use, transportation, installation of radiation devices as required by the
Instituto Peruano de Energía Nuclear (IPEN).
Accuracy and repeatability of the nuclear density instruments shall be < 0.5% of measured span
under all specified environmental and process conditions, unless otherwise indicated on the data
sheets.
Calibration instructions and data necessary for standardization and recalibration of the radiation
density instruments shall be provided by the Vendor, including equivalent absorbers to be mounted
on the source side of the equipment and be used as references for calibration. For maintenance
purpose the density instruments shall be provided with equivalent absorbers for 100%, 75%, 50%
and 25% within the specified range. Vendor shall provide factory calibration curves.
The calibrated range display units and all transmitter’s parameters shall be easily changed without
removal of the transmitter by means of a hand held calibrator with HART protocol. The Vendor
shall provide a calibrator with the device.
Output signals required of the nuclear density transmitters shall be in terms of specific gravity,
density units and % solids.
The transmitter’s circuitry shall have saturation immunity when the measured variable is out of the
instrument calibration range.
The radiation density shall be suitable for operation in a dusty and wet atmosphere containing grit
and micron-size dust particles. Enclosures shall be waterproof and dustproof and shall comply with
NEMA 4 or NEMA 4X, as specified in the data sheets.
Switches contacts shall be hermetically sealed type, Two (2) SPDT or One (1) DPDT. The contacts
shall be clearly marked with the NC for Normally Closed or NO for Normally Open.

The Level Switches shall be suitable for operation in a dusty and wet atmosphere containing grit
and micron-size dust particles. Enclosures shall be waterproof and dustproof and shall comply with
NEMA 4, or as specified in the data sheets.
The Nuclear Level Switches shall have clamp type terminal blocks or screw terminals.
Nuclear Instruments shall be furnished with all necessary safeguards to meet the relevant Safety
Codes, Regulations and accepted industry practice. It is the Vendor's responsibility to ensure that
these requirements are met.
The manufacturer shall shop-assemble all instruments and components, provide its own quality
control inspection, and shall perform all testing required to demonstrate that the instrument is in full
compliance with the specifications and is completely operable.
The manufacturer shall perform calibration and/or configuration of all instruments according to the
ranges or data indicated in the attached data sheets. Calibration and/or configuration certificate shall
deliver with each instrument.
The Purchaser reserves the right to expedite and inspect all materials during fabrication and before
shipment. Unless otherwise noted in the purchaser order, the Vendor shall notify the Purchaser at
least 30 days before shipment of the instrument so that arrangements can be made for final
inspection and testing.
If, in the opinion of the Purchaser, inspection and testing of the instrument does not indicate good
workmanship, Vendor shall make such changes as necessary to rectify this condition. The Purchaser
will witness such further tests as it deems necessary to ensure that the instrument complies fulfill the
specification. All costs of such additional test shall be for the account of the Vendor.
The instrument shall be shipped to the jobsite completely assembled. If this is not feasible, Vendor
shall so state in his proposal and shall describe the extent of assembly proposed; in such cases, all
parts shall be match-marked to facilitate field assembly.
