Hydraul c-Lock ng Alarm System

8. 1 General :

Hydraul ic-locking(the sol-hyd valve does not operate as desire) wi 11 cause loss of
the steering capability. As this steering gear is provided with
hydraulic-locking alarm system, when hydraulic-locking is happen, audible and
visible alarms are given on the navigation bridge.

8. 2 Construction :

This system is consisted of followings. And refer to following block diagram.

(1) So 1-hyd valve with spoo I position sensor
( 2) Hyd. Iock cfetector

8. 3 Deta i led Description of Main Parts :
( 1 ) Sol-hyd va Ive with spool position sensor

One sol-hyd valve has two position sensors (port position sensor and stbd
position sensor). Each sensor acts as fol lowing table. When the spool moves
port side, port position sensor contact become open. When the spoo I
moves stbd side, stbd position sensor become open. And other cases,
the sensor contacts are closed.
Detai Is are shown in the drawings of FINISHED PLAN

Stbd position sensor Close Close Open

( 2) Hyd. Lock detector

Hyd. lock detector compares order signal with position sensor signal.
If the spool does not acts correctly in accordance with order signal,
it transmits alarm signal to alarm panel.
Detai Is are shown in the drawings of FINISHED PLAN.

( 3) Alarm Panel
Alarm panel furnished in navigating bridge receives the signal from
hyd. lock detector and gives audible and visible alarms.
(Details are referred to the shipbui Ider' s drawings.)

8. 4 Operating Instruction for Hydraulic-locking Alarm :
When hydraulic-locking alarm is given, operate the power units and valves suitably
in accordance with the operating instruction mounted in the steering gear compartment.
( 1 ) Stop the ma Ifunctioned pump unit.
( 2) Start another e Iectr ic motor.
( 3) Shut the stop va Ives connected with the ma Ifunctioned pump unit in steering
gear room.
• NO. 1 pump unit is malfunction Stop valve A and B
• NO. 2 pump unit is malfunction Stop valve C and D

8. 5 Inspection of Hydraulic-locking Alarm System :

If hydraulic-locking alarm system is fault, the hydraulic-locking alarm wil I not be
given when hydraulic-locking is occurred. Therefore it is necessary to check, before
voyage, the operation of hydraulic-locking alarm system in the fol lowing procedure.
( 1) Serve the remote steering gear control system with electrical
power and change-over to non-fol low up control mode.
( 2 ) Start the e Iectr ic motor (s).
( 3) Move the rudder by pushing the push rod of each side of solenoid valves by
turns with the pushing bar hanging on the valve.
Confirm that hydraulic-locking alarm is given.

8. 6 Trouble Shooting Guide :

When hydrau I ic-1 ock i ng a Iarm system is fau It, the hydrau I ic-1 ock i ng a Iarm can not be
given. And steering can not be done when hydraulic-locking is occurred. Therefore if
this system is wrong, it is necessary to repair the abnormal part of system immediately.
In investigation of the defective part, consider to be classified into the sol-hyd
valves, the hyd. lock detector and the alarm panel.
( 1) Trouble of sol-hyd valve with spool position sensor
• Check the sol-hyd. valve is correctly operated by the order signal of
the steering stand.
• Confirm the operation of spool position sensor (Open/Close) by checking
the voltage between terminal No.2 and 3.
• Rep Iace it if necessary.
( 2) Trouble of hyd. lock detector
If something is wrong in the hyd. lock detector, hydraulic-locking alarm
system shal I not be operated in regular sequence as desired.
Investigate the hyd. lock detector and repair it if necessary.
( 3) Trouble of alarm panel
If something is wrong in the alarm panel, hydraulic-locking alarm system shal I
not be operated in regular sequence as desired.
Investigate the alarm panel and repair it if necessary.
6,. NOTICE The hydraulic-Jocking alarm may be given when operating the push rod

of solenoid valves manually at the time of local steering.

It is because the position of the spool ls moved when the order signal from

the steering stand Is not sent. Therefore, it is not failure of equipments.
