REINFORCEMENT PADS FOR NOZZLES
Inspection Hole.

1. ID of the nozzle = 200mm

2. Nozzle Wall thickness = 8.2mm

The area of reinforcement available includes;

 The area of excess thickness in vessel, A1

 The area of excess thickness in nozzle wall, A2
 The area available in the nozzle projecting inward, A3
 The cross-sectional area of the welds, A4
 The reinforcement area required, Ar

From Equation (i)

Required Nozzle thickness

𝟏𝟏. 𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔
𝒕𝒕 =
𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐. 𝟖𝟖 − 𝟎𝟎. 𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔. 𝟔𝟔

𝒕𝒕 =
𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐𝟐. 𝟖𝟖 − 𝟎𝟎. 𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔𝟔. 𝟔𝟔

Hence

Ar, Required Nozzle Reinforcement Area,

Ar = 2 (200 x 4.45)
= 1780mm2.

The area of excess thickness in vessel, A1

A1 = 2(500 - 200) x (8 - 4.5)
= 2100mm2

The area of excess thickness in nozzle wall, A2

A2 = 2{(2.5 X 8.2) + 6) 0.81}
= 42.9mm2
The area available in the nozzle projecting inward, A3
A3 = 2 (6x8.2)
= 98.4mm2

The cross-sectional area of the welds, A4

A4 = 2(0.5X(6²X6²)
= 1296mm2

HENCE
Atotal = A1+A2+A3+A4
= 5317mm2 ≥ Ar =1780mm2.

From the standpoint of ASME SECTION VII, DIV1 rule, the nozzle is adequately
reinforced.

The reinforcement area required, Ar
Ar = 2(50 x 4.45)
= 445mm2

The area of excess thickness in vessel, A1

A1 = 2(150-50) (8-4.45)
= 710mm2

The area of excess thickness in nozzle wall, A2

A2 = 2{(2.5 X 3.2) + 6)0.2}

A3 = 2(6X3.2)
= 38.4mm2

The cross sectional area of the welds, A4

A4 = 2(0.5X(6²X6²)

From the standpoint of ASME SECTION VII, DIV1 rule, the nozzles are adequately
reinforced.

Hydraulic test Pressure.

According to ASME rules, vessels designed for internal pressure shall be subjected to a
hydrostatic pressure which at every point of the vessel is atleast equal to 1:3 times the
maximum allowable pressure multiplied by the lowest ratio for (MOC) of the stress value for
the test temperature on the vessel to the stress value of the design temperature.
