A. Definition of Short/Monologue Talk


Short talk or monologue talk is one of the other parts which is tested in listening section.
short/monologue talk is used to test students' understanding to find out the information
conveyed by the speakers through audio recordings. From the information, students are
expected to be able to choose the correct answer in answering the questions. It might be
an announcement, a radio advertisement, or a telephone recording. There are several
types of short/monologue talk and some of it is announcement, advertisement, and
instruction.

1. Definition of Announcement
An announcement is a statement made to the public or to the media which
gives information about something that has happened or that will happen.

Attention ladies and gentleman, we will be arriving at Grace Land in just a few
minutes. When you get off the bus please proceed immediately to ticket gate number
4 and wait for your tour guide Mr. Murray, he will accompany you on your tour of the

To use your milligram tape recorder, follow this easy instruction:
First, put the tape in the machine then push the play button. Next, adjust the volume.
To record with your new tape recorder, just push the record button. Then speak into
the microphone. Push the rewind button to rewind the tape. Next, push “play” to
listen to your recording.
