PROJECT— 7 PHOTOVOICE

7.1 PROJECT OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION

Photovoice is basically a community art project which uses photographs to describe the
problem, the situation , the weakness or the strength of circumstances that exist in commu-
nity . The objective is to bring change that can improve conditions and enhance lives.
In this project students participants are expected to bring the realities to the public
through photovoice by choosing, discussing, and reflecting on the subjects of their photo-
graphs.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVE


Goal :
Students are able to demonstrate their academic speaking skills by delivering their mini
research-based presentations with appropriate structure without hesitancy and relying
on reading the description of the picture.
Objective : students are able to :
1) select appropriate photos to represent the case, describe the photos and have a dia-
logue with the audience relate to the problem they bring about.
2.) apply critical and creative thinking skills as well as technology to their presentation

7.3 IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM

The following are the problem areas which can be captured in Photovoice
 Children and youth in difficult circumstances . ( child abuse etc.)
 Homeless adults and families.
 People with physical and mental disabilities or mental health issues.
 People with chronic diseases or medical conditions, ( Cancer, HIV, TBC etc.)
 People whose way of life is threatened ( HIV, Alcoholic )
 people who are discriminated against because of class, caste or poverty.
 Poor environment in society, Institution , School, Campus ( garbage, sanitation, facili-
ties , etc.)

7.4 SET THE PURPOSE

After determining the issue, you need to think of the purpose of your photovoice. Here
are some questions that you can relate to when thinking about your purpose before tak-
ing any action.
1. Who do you want to reach ?
2. What are your message ? Why?
3. What action( s) do you want them to take ? How?
4. What type of media and product will reach them ?

Discuss the answer in group by relating to the issue you are interested to discover in your photovoice.

This is a bad situation. The streets are always


muddy even on sunny days. There are insects
which bring illness to people. Cars cannot
enter in this community. These roads need
renovation . If the municipality would con-
tribute gravels, the community would fill in
the holes themselves .
